  1. Welcome aboard from NY.
  2. John, I tried a lot of different presentations including small hare jigs, a drop-shot small worm, and suspending jerkbaits[Pointers]. The only lure that was wrong was a four-inch color #236 [called 'dirt' by Yamamoto] wacky-rigged, weighhtless Senko, worked REALLY REALLY slowly on the bottom. Fish were not out deep, but I'd guess around the 5 foot depths. Very subtle bites... This was in a man-made, stream-fed reservoir. Water temps had to be in the 40s.
  3. Welcome aboard from Long Island NY. I moved here from NW NJ in 1986. I still fish a lot of NJ waters each year.
  4. Okay, it took me three fish to get to ten pounds, but dang it fealt real good each time. My first three bronze fish of 2010 ! Yahoo !! First one went 3.2 pounds. Second one went 3.0 pounds. Third one went 3.9 pounds. They all went back, and are swimming again. Was fishing in chest waders, but did not go in deeper than "the boyz" due to the cold water temps, and they spent little time beneath the waters, as it was so cold, so I fished mainly knee-deep in this NYC watershed reservoir located just north of New York City for over two hours before I had enough of the damp cold wind and overcast skies, which were getting thicker with drizzle by the time I left. You KNOW this ol' dude was smiling as I drove home. Was fishing right in front of a really old church, on Palm Sunday. Does thst count as having 'gone to church' that day ? ;D
  5. Welcome aboard from NY.

  8. Rusty, Welcome aboard from NY !! Thank you for your service to our great country ! It's a great site here...
  9. Senko 77, To me, the number one reason most anglers will miss frog bites is because they suffer from what I call 'premature ejerkulation".... meaning they pull the frog away on seeing the splashing water of the fish's attack, and them not giving the Bass enough time to close it's mouth on the bait, with the resut being the frog coming flying back at the angler [and away from the fish now]. Once you feel the fish pulling, or at least see your line tightening by the fish pulling froggy in it's mouth, THEN slam that rod back, and let the fish feel the steel, crossing it's eyes with your rock-solid hookset. Frogging is NO time for a light finesse rod nor light line.
  10. The fact of the matter is NY has been blessed with many great Smallmouth waters, and all you have to do is ask about a certain area, and you'll get people to tell you just about the fishing there. Lake Erie has SLOBS, The Thousand Islands area is reknown for them; Lake Champlain is a "Smallie Factory", etc, etc, etc., even NYC watershed reservoirs that feed NYC it's drinking waters from Westchester and Putnam counties have trophy-sized Smallies in them. NY has many, many rivers and lakes that can be 'mined' for "Bronzebacks". NY is a big state, and just ask about waters you intend to fish; you'll get tons of info, no doubt. Fish for them whereever and whenever your travels will take you in NY; you'll probably be pleasantly suprised by your results. When fishing for bass in NY, be cognizant of the fishing games laws though for bass, as the season for Bass varies from DEC region to region, and in some cases, even water to water in some of the DEC regions. Some areas of NY have a closed season for Bass. Consult the DEC handbook if you are in question, the DEC website, or contact your local DEC regional office in inquire about the laws regarding fishing for Bass in your region.
  11. Chris, Congrats , Dude !!! That's awesome ! I have seen you posting for some time on westernbass, too. I'm there by the same name, too, for nearly ten years. If and when you do hit the big one, add me to that list of 'old-timers' needing bigger screens. the Nutcase Classic X111 "odd nut", [a trophy I am very proud of] Wild Bill of NY {the east coast nutcase}
  12. Flashback to 1969... [{musically}--- "Dew, dew, dew, dew , dew"] That's when I had my first frog fish, and I've been 'gut-hooked' ever since that on froggin. There ain't no turning back for you now. I often say... "If frog fishing does not excite you, check your pulse, I think you died".....but I am an openly admitting 'frog-aholic'. As the water temps get hotter and hotter, the frog bite only gets better and better. Have fun ! Ribbit, ribbit !!
  13. Welcome aboard from NY !! Some of the 'old' fishing stuff [such as Jitterbugs at night] still works great...and there's so much new stuff to learn. Teach 'the ol dawg' some new tricks... I have been playing with them silly green fish for 50 years myself...or maybe they have been playing with me.
  14. Welcome aboard from another NY-er !
  15. Welcome aboard from NY ! I grew up Bassing just east of KC {and Lee's Summit}, out at Lake Lottawanna each summer, as a young kid back in the early 1960s, when we'd go visit my grandparents that had a summer lakefront home there. My dad, and also my grandfather[his Dad], spent endless hours with me back then, showing me Bass fishing lures and teaching me how to use them, with a Jitterbug my first lure ever of my own back in 1960. Jitterbugs still catch fish for me today, 50 years later. I have such golden memories of those times. My grandparents year-round home used to be on east 77th, right in Kansas City.
  16. ZOOM has been around for a very long time, and they make many really great baits, including Lizards, Super Flukes, Horny Toads, Centipedes, Brush Hogs, and many many more. And no, I do not know the president's name...{LOL}
  17. Welcome aboard, Dean. Enjoy the forums here.
  18. Backwater, If you ever see a dark green-metalic dual-consoled Ranger with gold trim on Candlewood or other waters in our area, stop me and say hello. I have a "well-fed" physique, with a dark moustaiche and dark hair.
  19. Welcome aboard from NY. Relax, we were all novices at one point or another. For me, it was back in 1960...and I am STILL learning new ways, too.
  20. Welcome aboard from another NY-er, Ed !
  21. Ish's Phat Frog is the 'fashizzle'... It will NOT sink !! It has a built-in, sealed air bladder. On the other bodies syles, like the Spro, BPS, or Bobby's Perfect frogs [and many others], take some MegaStrike, and slather some right into the hooks holes on the frog torso [front and back], and then slather more on the frog's belly to help it slide along over slop and lily pads. When the Bass engulf's 'el froggo', the added scent may make the Bass hold it a bit longer , enough for you to set the steel to it. Set the hook to cross the fish's eyes; no namby-pamby hooksets, please. I am a certifiable frog-aholic, addicted to froggy since 1969. Since 2002, there is a frog color-pattern marketed nationwide named after me, The Wild Bull frog. Yeah, I got frog-addiction really bad. Ribbit, ribbit...right at y'all. :D
  22. Does it have a 'knob' type of tail ? [and a treble hook, or a single, top-hook?] How long is it ? Trout color-pattern ? I live in south-western Nassau County, and I will fish trout-stocked ponds here [after they have been recently stocked with stocker Trout] that I know have good-sized LMs in them to hunt for BIG fish that way. Yes, it does work, but it is certainly not a 'numbers' game, buuuuut, when you get one, it's usually a better one. People walking by as I bank fish will get all excited, thinking I caught a fish, then thier eyes bug out when see it is MY LURE. Their facial expressions sley me.... ;D I use 6 and 8 inch sizes often.
  23. [standing] Hi. My name is Wild Bill. I have a fishing 'problem'. Work and life keep getting in the way of me fishing enough. Thanks fo AA [angler's anonymous], and countless fishing tackle retailers, I have been able to spend a near fortune due to my "sickness" when I cannot fish. I now have four boats, countless rod combos, and 17 lifetimes of tackle... please help me.... I am running out of room to store it. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha !!!!
  24. Another great LUNKERVILLE episode, Mike. Way to go !! Lake George is gorgeous, as is much of upstate NY.
  25. On camera "jitters" caused the name mishap, no doubt, but he recouped great and did a fine interview with Dean Rojas. Way to go, Ryan !!
