Rookie from MA
Hey "dad", Welcome aboard from NY. I fish Upper Saranac Lake each July, and will be up there the second week of July this year [starting on Saturday, the 11th through to the following Saturday]. I got a real soft spot for any Dad taking his boys out fishing, as that is how I got started fishing myself, a near lifetime ago, by my own dad taking me fishing for the first time, back in 1960. I got all the "toys and whistles" anyone would ever need to go Bass fishing, so I invite you to contact me at fishnwilly@optonline.net , and maybe I can arrange to show you and the lads a great time out on my Ranger someday for free. I live down on Long Island normally, but for one week each Summer, I am in my "nirvana" up there on USL, fishing everyday I am there, all day. The Saranac Chain of lakes have many, many species of fish in them, ranging from Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, several specie of Trout, Landlocked Salmon, Catfish, Bluegills, Whitefish, and other species as well. Please feel free to contact me to pick my mind for lure suggestions and tactics I would recommend.

Welcome aboard from NY. I am also very lucky that my wife sees the passion I have for fishing, and is not jealous of the time I spend doing so.

Waders???
I am a suprised that NOBODY has suggested to use a wading staff to probe the bottom consistency [and softness] out in front of you. I personally never used to use one, but now I would not EVER wade without one. There have been times when I have BECOME STUCK in mucky bottom that I had to take my waders off and swim out of them, and then retrieve them by swimming . Not only would you find soft spots, but also drop-offs and trip spots which both could present a serious problem to those wading. My wading staff actually floats, and I have an elastic cord holding them to my waders.

What Frog Do You LIke From Snag Proof?
The Bobby's Perfect and the Pro Tounrment Frogs sport different hooks. The Pro-Tournement Frogs have a 6/0 Owner hook. Bobby's Perfect Frogs have the double-EWG Gamakatsu hook design, as do the new Ish's Phat Frog.{as well as the Spro Frog, as Spro is the "parent" company of Gamakatu}. If you look at the rear of both frogs, the newer of the two , the Bobby Perfect design has eliminated that 'corn-kernel shape where the strands come out of the torso which is seen on the older ProTournment Frogs. I feel, together, these two changes make for better hookup ratios of the two frogs, in my expeiences with them both. I have fished them both A LOT, I assure you. I hope this helps you..
