As a former Long Islander I'd like to welcome you. I miss fishing in the Catskills. I used to have friends with property near Swinging Bridge.

The Gander Mountain by me was running a Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal. Needless to say, I stocked up. I'm glad there's a bit of a price break on these because since I tied one on I have no desire to go back to my usual Gammys.

I get ticked when people don't follow fish and game regulations. Some people have a total disregard and just take what they want out of the water. Just today I was having a discussion about it. We brought up a friend who "disappeared" for a week. Turned out he was serving 7 days in the Keys for an undersized lobster. If I'm going to jail it certainly won't be because of a fish.

I like the blackest Black possible as so they see a silhouette. If not this then I like something white or white bellied, sometimes chartreuse. Like someone else said, I save the greens for clear water.

I would now say that Miami is the best fit for him and I think he'll sign here if he's healthy. They also have the salary cap room to spare. If he brings Reggie Wayne along, which is a valid possibility, they'll have a sick offense with those 2 plus Marshall and Bush. Plus Jake Long is there at LT to protect his blind side. That defense is underrated too. They also have a new head coach, former Packer OC Joe Philbin, who like to throw the ball all over the field. Throw in the fact that his wife loves South Florida and they already has a condo nearby. He'll be the next in a line of superstars that want a part of South Beach (Lebron, Bosh, Reyes, et al). If he's not healthy he'll probably sign with Washington to milk Danny Snyder out of a paycheck like every other gimpy veteran does.

I find I have to fish a little deeper to find Bass when the shallows have Tilapia beds. I always wondered how a Blue Tilapia population effects Bass. I do have my own musings though. I figure the young Tilapia are forage for Bass. Also, I'm pretty sure they aren't competing with each other for the same food.

Thought of this post after I saw that the turtles were sunbathing today. Caught a She-hog in about 8 inches of water in a spot I wouldn't normally cast to. Thanks.

I catch fish on a Smokin' Rooster all the time. I'm pretty sure there are no roosters in the lakes I fish.

Giants are the most complete team left. The other 3 are somewhat one dimensional. They are the healthiest they have been all season and are playing their best ball right now. Nothing wrong with making a few extra bucks if the event has disrupted life as usual in your town. I'm sure someone is making Obama on Tour t-shirts as I type this. The most disturbing part of it all for me would be the part about businesses getting searched, especially if they're privately owned..

In general it depends on what time of year you ask me this question. Some months I have success with big 10 inch worms (SK Rage Anaconda or Berkley PB). If I want something smaller or a little different it's the Producto Tournament worm (6 or 8 inches). The Producto is often a jig trailer option as well. I found myself throwing a lot of Rage Frogs and Smokin' Roosters this year; 2 baits that I have learned to love despite initial failure. In the cooler months I love little black beavers (RI Smallie Beaver or Net Bait B-Bug). However, if nothing else is working I resort to Ole Reliable - a Swimsenko with a 1/16 bullet weight. I always carry a pack of these in Black as well as Watermelon/Blk/Gold. The back end of a spent one is probably my favorite jig trailer as well, especially on swim jigs.

As technology evolves so does the sport of fishing. Great part about it is that you can choose not to use it. You can also choose not to use fish finders, depth finders or GPS. Everyone draws their own line in the sand, one that's been drawn countless times long before such debates as hand-lines vs bamboo poles.

Today I found that BGs 4-5 inches worked best. I did use a bigger one once but the bass just chased it around without eating it.

Inspired by this thread I decided to live bait Bluegill this morning/afternoon in my condo pond using dough to catch the BGs. I'm somewhat of a purist so I felt a little dirty doing so. Still, it always produces. Caught 10 fat bass in a 4 hr span with the biggest one at 6-1 and the smallest just over 2. Pulled 9 of them from the same spot, a walking bridge. Not bad for right outside my door.
