  1. there were about 10 boats in the barge canal tues. down by the trees up to about marker 6 trolling and drifting. newnans is giving up good numbers .a 2 3/4 # was weighed at gary's .loosa and orange are doing good per reports.
  2. In march the Elites are going out of Palatka (pcd) the last day the final 12 will launch from kenwood and fish a 6 pool course in rodman, like the old megabucks series. ought to be interesting>
  3. no drawdown this yr.fishing is heating up with big prespawners. have heard of some spawning already
  4. yes all my life..personally,I dont waste my time there much except on july 4th at the annual big fish tx. that pays $1000.00 for first. It's a pretty little lake and at times gives up good numbers.pretty much a dink lake
  5. Jellyman,Ive been fishing s.f. for over 20 yrs. and it is still a lake that will frustrate me to no end at times.more times than not.In our circle it's called santa flush, and many other derogatory names. But I love the lake,it is so diverse and has plenty of above avg. bass livin in it.My strenghts also are shallow water and I fish shallow water yr. round, but if your going to catch bass in s.f. on a somewhat consistent basis you will have to move off the bank at times to even get bit.The water has come up considerabily nthe last yr. and that has put them in the grass more but because of the structure of the lake they move out alot.I'm not sayin not to fish shallow but you cant catch em if theyre not there.Right now they are feeding up on shad and fishing those patterns will be the easiest attempts to get bit. If you are persistent to only fish shallow then dont discount the docks, and learn where the deeper weedlines are. These will be areas that will hold fish shallow when they arent really shallow.
  6. Bass11, have you ever been to lowry,on the backside of kingsley off 21 just N. of keystone. It's open everyday right now and the fishing can be off the charts especially for smaller fish.25-50 or more is not uncommon.Granted most are 12-14'' but I've seen 10+ come outta there.fishes alot like kingsley.Let me know and I can give you some spots to try.
  7. A-rig in the pass early.the yumbrella w/ the spinners and 2-3'' baits work best . must use small baits. look for schoolers. they are hard to get to bite but puts you around fish.#8 shad rap is a good bet. each end of the pass especially little lake end are some distinct drops c-rig w/ a small worm always have a trap tied on fish it in these same areas and along outside deeper weedline in the big lake..different retrieves will be necessary to find what they want. if weve been in a warming trend you can worm grass line. throw it up in grass pull it off and let it fall on slack line.deadstick,repeat. the stretch over on west side south of sailboat is good area.
  8. grass or mats. just about anywhere has good flippin in the winter. Rodman would be a good choice here in N. Fla. ,Harris chain,Rouseau,Kissimmee chain and many others in between.
  9. the sjr is very big and intimidating. It all depends if you have a boat or not and where you live.the best stretch for big bass is from palatka to lake george.starting next month the biggest bass in the sjr will come from lake george area as bedding season starts.
  10. the thicker the mat the heavier the weight and smaller the bait, and be sure to use a good oil based lube like bang.the mats on rodman are so thick in most places its takin 2 oz. to get thru.a tube would be a good choice and the action isnt whats needed to get bit.we down scale baits to fit the mat one of the best baits to get thru any mat is a gambler b.b. cricket.the big show craw gets thru good as does the beaver baits especially the yum b- bug cause of its slender profile, but we have found the b.b. cricket gets thru better than any of them.be sure to lube the weight as well.
  11. rig the bends and points in the river channel or pick up the flippin stix and flip em up.both r producing some.
  12. i fish rodmans all the time.the rig is a necessary technique especially if ur fishin the river channel.if u have gps u can find the bends, intersections and points thru the middle of the stump field if not ull have to get someone to show u the general area.as for baits .alot is preference but we have success w/ tick worms,uv speedworms, magII,and 10'' worms.depending on water clarity as to color.right now the water is super clear and green pumpkin works well.junebug, and wat. red always work and a black trick worm when it gets tough. we had a great spring,i think i posted some pics on here of some hawgs we caught in may.july has been really tough bite.the north flats down by marker 6 work your way in around deep creek w/ a t-rig and 1/16 weight fished super slow.id be glad to show u around sometime.just give me a shout, mike
  13. im in need of some t-1's in golden shiner or even silver shiner.if anyone has any they want to part w/ im interested.thnx, mike
  14. preston clark.google and youll find his site
  15. lochloosa harbor on the east side of loosa off of 301. twin lakes is the best its on cross creek on the n.w. side of loosa.loosa is extremely low and you cant get thru to orange.there is a camp on orange in macintosh bay ,but not sure if you can launch from there.although orange is super low big fish are being pulled from there daily.only place to launch is heaggy-burry on the s. end.
  16. hey cat, there is a pier on newnans off of s.r. 20e.one on lochloosa and one on orange off 441 s.call the tackle box and they can give u directions.do u bass fish if so maybe i can take u to orange one day.
  17. the draw down should start in nov. but it will be gradual.it will be hard to predict what the bite will be then.as it gets closer some of us will be able to help you more.typically nov. is a great month.
  18. there is a lot that goes into a better built blank.and there are only a "few" who have got it right.loomis being the leader.it seems that gary understands what is necessary for a exceptional blank which translates into a quality fishin pole.with that comes a price tag.the gen.2 rods are w/o a doubt one of the best constructed poles on the market today w/ a price point below the leader.the most glaring asset of a gen2 is balance.yes it takes the right reel but it can accomodate more reels and maintain the balance .the powells are made of lesser quality components and put together differnt but imo for the money are some of the best rods on the market.again the glaring difference will be in balance and feel.they just dont match up as well as the balnce is farther up the blank. to me its all about what you can afford.if you want the best buy a gen.2 or a loomis or even a phenix.if you want quality and the best bang for the buck buy a powell...which is what i have.
  19. is there any difference in the balance of the split grip compared to the full cork.?
  20. the best christmas present you could get! unless you get the first of a cold front that shuts em down for a few days.... should be on!!!
  21. the water on the harris chain is some of the ugliest water you'll ever fish but the fish are use to it so dont let it bother you. oct. in central fla. is still going to be "probably" still warm unless you come late in the mth. or we have an unusual cold snap. because of the dark water harris chain stays hot longer and i would bet the barn you wont see no typical spawn on harris in oct..if we havent had any cool weather you can expect tough conditions.harris chain is a tough place in good conditions.there is always yr. round shallow fish in the harris chain.flippin is the best way to get to them.if the water has cooled some and the bait are strting to move outside grass lines w/ white sb or shallow cranks rc 1.5 types or lipless.wormin is always a good bet if thats your strenght. local input at the time will tell you what lakes are doing the best.w/ your accomplishments as a basser you wont have any problem figureing it out.
  22. the spawn on harris is not untill after the new yr.depends if we have had any cool weather snaps to move em up .hopefully you'lll hit it at the right time and get on some.but.......it could be tough.
  23. im holdin down the n. central part of the state. fishin here has been fantastic all yr. 23+ outta lochloosa sat.
