Awesome gift
I got one of the best bass fishing gifts I could have gotten today, free enrollment in the Bassmaster University courses :). Although this might not seem like a big deal to some of yall... ...I have been wanting to do this for a long time but just never had the money. Now I'll get to meet and learn from guys like KVD and Ike, not to mention I'll get to drop a few $$$ at BPS.

Dead fish??
It was definetly alive when he hooked it but as I said it looked very unhealthy from its coloring and all the scars all over it. I just don't get this :-?

Dead fish??
It had one treble stuck in its upper lip, the fish looked fine as it was coming up. Although when we did get it up it had an unhealthy looking coloration. You know when a fish dies and it gets a white tint, this is what the fish looked like.

Dead fish??
Today me and my buddy went down the road a little ways to fish a large private lake. This lake is known for big bass, average bass is 3-4lbs. Well we head up near the dam and start throwing deep diving Norman suspending cb's in about 12ft of water. After about 2 hrs. my buddy cast along some of the rip-rap and started a reel and pause retrieve, after about the 2 pause something smashed his bait. He got it up and it was a nice 7lb. largemouth, but when he picked it up out of the water it just stopped moving. It had scars all over its body and after about an hour of trying to revive it it just died. He ended up taking it home to get it mounted but I'm wondering why this fish died so quickly. Was it shock or stress, or did it have to do with the scars all over its body?????

Re: Going one last time this year!

But then again I'm not sure about northern VA, with all them yankee people livin up there...jk y'all hope I didn't offend anybody ;D ;D

How did you catch your HUGE smallmouth?
Although you might not consider it huge but my biggest smallie was 3lbs. 7oz. and came from the James River. Caught it on a pumpkin/seed GYCB single-tail grub impaled on an 1/8oz. jighead, I was popping it off the bottom right next to a huge weed-bed on a current seam

Most "original" way to fish.
Me, my brother, and my dad used to go to this small farm pond down the road a little ways. it was half -covered with thick grass mats and half submerged grass beds I still fish it today and it is one of the best fisheries EVER. What we would do is after we got done catchin' fish we would go over to the dock and crimp a spli-shot onto a 4ft. long piece of Stren mono, then we would stick half of a Richard Petty hot dog on it and hang it out about 1ft. above the water. After about 30 seconds, WHOOSH a bass we called "Richard", guess why ;D, would fly out of the water and engulf the hot dog. Richard weighed about 9lbs and although nobody ever caught him it sure was fun watching him eat them hot dogs, every time he came up it would scare the hell outta you because you see that massive mouth coming out of the water... :o He probably died from all them Petty dogs we gave 'im...

habitat enhancement ideas??
After the dam for my lake broke last year... :'( :'( :'(...I started A-framing pallets and placing brushpiles in key areas throughout the lake. Place them in places like ledges, drop-offs, spawining flats, points, creek channels, key areas like that. Also be sure to mark your placements so you will be able to find them later.

what if
I can't believe nobody has said Lake Guntersville Alabama yet! That would be my dream right there, it has some of the best largemouth fishing in the country and not to mention it some pretty good whitetail deer hunting from what I've heard. Plus nobody lives there, and I love living in the country so it would be my #1 choice.

Golf course ponds!!!
Horse pasture ponds is where it is at. Tried to get permission to fish a "local" golf course pond, closest one is about 45 minutes away, but they said no. You have got to be real quiet and stealthy when approaching farm and pasture ponds because I live out in the sticks and some of these farmers can get real trigger-happy at night. I advise you wear a Realtree Seclusion hardwoods camo shirt and MossyOak Break-up pants with a black or brown hat. Camo has saved my butt more than a few times... ;D

winter bass
This time of year a really effective tchnique for me is to fish a deep-divng suspending cb in about 10-12ft. of water. I work it with a pull and pause retrieve. Also try using ZOOM Super-Flukes, finesse jigs, hair jigs, jighead worms, small tubes, and most of all suspending jerkbaits.

Fat Largemouth, spotted bass or hybrid???
What part of VA are you in? Because the only body of water I know around me with spots in it is the Pamunkey and Mattaponi Rivers. I am living in Mechanicsville in central VA right now, if you ever need a fishing partner let me know... ;D ;D
-
Your top three bass catchin' techniques
1.pitching sweet beavers and jigs to shallow wood cover and matted vegetation. 2.skipping ZOOM trick worms under docks and overhanging trees 3.throwing small homemade spinnerbaits and burning them by deeper laydowns and seawalls.
