  1. I did not get to go. My fishing partner had a heart attack Friday morning. Thanks for the help though. We are going to go down there in July or so.
  2. I really like these.
  3. Thanks for the info. I always have a spook jr tied on to try. I will let you how I do. Thanks
  4. I am headed down to Guntersville for Friday and Saturday to fish Guntersville for the first time. I have never been on the water and neither has my friend that is going with me. We plan on staying in the area of Mink Creek because I have a small 30hp Jon Boat. What are some things that would help us have some fun? What pattern are the fish in at this time in this part of the lake? Thanks for all the advice. I can't even sleep cause I am so anxious.
  5. I was thinking about placing manmade fish habitats close to boat launches where tournaments are held. Would the fish use these areas?
  6. I am wanting to start making my own tackle such as shakey heads and bullet weights and eventually jigs. My question is how much can one save by making your own rigs? Would this be something easy to start with? http://www.do-itmolds.com/prodmolds.aspx?c=265 Thanks
  7. Netbait Finese Worm is favorite in a Bamabug color.

I am wanting to learn to fish jigs. Would the Bitsy Bug or Bitsy flip be a good jig to start with?
  9. I rigged up an old catfishing pole with heavy line tied to an old metal fish stringer. I opened all the little clamps and bent them out just a little. I managed to catch 3 fishing poles but none of them were mine. It was amazing at all the stuff I pulled up from the bottom. I spent 3 hours working the area real well. I don't think it is where I thought it was. I will give a try again in a few days.
  10. I can swim and if all else fails that is what I am gonna try. It has a reel attached to it but there is no line out. I caught a 4lber saturday and set it down on the front deck to unhook the fish. It was hanging over the side and when I stood up a treble hook from another rod hooked my shirt and flipped my rod into the lake. I never heard the splash but my rod was missing after I put the fish into the livewell. I was thinking about using a pool skimmer pole rigged with an old fish stringer with all the things open.
  11. I lost a fishing rod the other day in about 7' of water. I know exactly where I dropped. I am headed back out there tomorrow. What are some things I could try to get my rod back?
  12. I fished this afternoon from 3:30 until 7:00 on Lake Wilson in North Alabama. The water temp on depth finder was showing 74 degrees. I know that is just surface temp so its just a reference. We have had about 1 week of 80+ degree weather. The wind was blowing about 15mph. I caught 2 small keeper fish on a rattle trap. 1 was right on the bank in about 1 foot of water and the other one was in the middle of a small pocket about 6 feet of water. I moved to a point a that I saw a blue herring sitting on a pier. I caught two fish within a few cast of each other. Both fish came on a watermelon gold brush hog texas rigged. These fish were a little larger than keeper bass. I worked this slough all the way to the back with 3 other small fish that were holding shallow. I start working the other side and catch about a 2.5 lber on a rattle trap. No other fish out of this slough. I decided to move up stream and I notice another blue herring. I stop and fish this point and I am catching fish left and right with all of them being about 10 - 12" fish. I see an old pier and see an old chair sitting on it that looked like someone fishes there. So I start working around the pier and catch 1 nice 3lb in about 4-5ft of water. Then about two cast later I catch a 4 lber in about 7-9 ft of water way out from the pier. What should this tell me about this paticular part of the lake? Are the bigger fish still holding off from bedding? Or have they already bedded? I am trying to put together all the pieces and I need help. Thanks
  13. I was using 4/0 and 5/0 until a friend of mine that fishes the FLW said to use 3/0 or 2/0. I switched and I have caught a lot more fish. Not sure if I have caught more fish due to the fact I have been fishing longer or what. He uses a 2/0 for everything is what he told me on the phone a few nights ago. Not saying he is right, I guess it just proves there are tons of different strategies.
  14. I am located in North Alabama and I fish mostly Lake Wilson because it is so close. I love using a Zara Spook as a search type bait and it has been a good producing bait at times. The water temp this past weekend was between 64-68 degress. At what water temp do people start really using top water baits?
  15. They said the screws that hold it to the boat have been breaking and the trolling motors were taking off the boat. Just glad they called before it happened to me.
  16. I had the thing installed when I received a call from Cebelas about a recall. I had to pack the thing back up and send it back. They tell me it will be close to a month before I get another one. I think I am just going to look for a used foot controlled.
  17. Not to hijack the post, but what water temps do you normally start using topwater baits.
  18. I have a 14' Jon boat with a 30HP motor and a handcontrol trolling motor mounted on the bow. I am always fighting the trolling motor. So I ordered a Procontroll adapter to turn my hand controll into a foot control. I got it in today and this thing looks pretty good. I am hoping to install tomorrow and give it a try . I will post some pics as soon as I can.
  19. Good Stuff. Thanks for all the replies.
  20. Thanks for all the replies. I don't think my problem was the rod. I was using the wrong style hooks.
  21. I fish plastics about 90% of the time. I have only used the Carolina Rig a few times with little success. Here lately at my local lake you here about how carolina rigging a lizard is wearing them out. What conditions would help you decide which rig to use?
  22. Getting a phone call from my friend telling me to hurry to the boat ramp. He said his rope broke and his boat was gone. When I arrived he was soaking wet and his boat was 200 yards away from the launch. He said he went swimming for it but the waves kept him from it. The water was about 50 degrees.
  23. The spinning rod is 7'. St. Croix Mojo Bass for wacky rigging is what is on the rod.
  24. I finally got my fat ikas in yesterday. I tried them this morning where I was already catching fish. I had one bite but I missed. I don't think I am using the appropriate set-up. I only have one spinning rod and it is a extra fast action medium power rod. I have about 5 or 6 baitcasting rods that are medium fast to medium heavy. I have read the article from roadwarrior and I do not have the setup that he suggest. What would be the best way to fish this according to what I have?
  25. I went out yesterday evening and this morning. I actually found some fish and was starting to put together some sort of pattern. I caught 8 yesterday afternoon in a 3 hour span and I caught 5 this morning in a 3 hour span. I caught the fish yesterday off of laydowns. The laydowns was halfway on the bank and decaying. I tried it again this morning at different locations and to my suprise I found some more fish. This has me pumped and I ready to go back to see what I learn.
