  1. Thank you for the in depth reply. That is the information I was wanting. I have never thought about approaching a lake that way.
  2. I was wanting to discuss just scouting lakes in general. I guess i should have left out Lake Wilson. I included to give reference that is a deep reservoir lake without a lot of off shore structure. I have a side imaging unit and I am learning to use it. I have read Reed's guide service numerous times and it has helped some. I just wanted to know what people do when they want to learn more about certain types of lakes. Thanks anyway.

  5. I was on the water at Mcfarland in Florence Monday and the water temp was around 42. I left around 2 P.M. Did not manage a bite but I was mostly idling around trying to learn how to use my side imaging unit. I also stayed away from the dam.
  6. Catch and Release and Please Release me. Watch the videos from sure life labs. In the summertime I use the same stuff but I have 8 one liter bottles that are frozen with water and a spoonful of catch and release in each one. I put a 10 lb bag of ice in livewell before getting to the ramp. As soon as I get close to my first location on the water I fill my livewell up (try to fill this up from deeper water, never at the boat ramp due to all the boats). I treat my livewell with the catch and release at this time as well. After I fill my livewell up the first time I don't get rid of that water, I just aerate the water that is in the livewell. About every 1 hour I drop one of the one liter bottles in the livewell with the top off. As the ice from the bottle melts it will release more of the catch and release. This might not be the correct way. However, I fished about 8 tournaments last summer with water temps well over 95 and I never lost any fish.
  7. I have a tendency to always fish the same locations week after week. Sometimes I catch tons of fish and sometimes I don't. I am wanting to expand on my fishing locations so I plan on doing some scouting trips over the next week. I am wanting to find some good structure and learn what this lake has to offer. The lake I am going to scout is a deep reservoir without a lot of off water structure like humps. It is Lake Wilson in north Alabama. What are some things that I should look for with my depth finder? What are some things that will help me learn this lake better?

  10. Thanks for all the replies. I will be doing a lot of map study over the next few days before I go out. We never have anything freeze over in Alabama.

  13. I am making a jerk bait into more of a wake bait.
  14. I built 1 of them out of pvc that I sanded down. I built the rest of them out of a white oak that has been down on my property for a long time. It might be a waste of time but I am curious how they do. I am going to build a few more out of just center blocks that I have out by the barn.

  17. I am planning on dropping some man made brush piles over the next two weeks during my vacation. I have never done this before so I have not the slightest clue on where to put them. I have 7 pretty big structures built at this time. These are going on a lake that has tons of shore line cover but does not have many offshore places to fish. I know some people do not agree with placing out brush piles but I do not see a problem with it. I have spoken to a local game warden and it is not illegal. Would I be better off putting all 7 of these in one of the major tributaries or spreading them out?

  20. 1: Baby wipes instead of TP. Easier to store in tackle box than TP. 2: Small calibur pistol.
  21. 1/2 oz football jig 10" monster worms 3" grub
  22. Awesome idea. I will give it a try. Thanks
