Smith Mountain Directions
and we have taken both the 29 route and the 81 route. the way down 81 just seems very boring because 81 is just so long and boring. 29 has more places to stop for food as well as you can stop in Char.ville

A cold day at Smith Mountain Lake VA
what part of the lake is this? i fish around Crazy Horse and i get skunked a lot. im young so i dont know a lot and i haven't even gotten my old depth finder on my boat yet. but SML has definitely helped in my confidence for certain styles and shot down my confidence in others.

What made you want to try Jig/Pig/trailer
this post! im gonna try it first thing this year! i mostly fish at a small pond that is pretty shallow that is practically alllll grass. the fish are all small. ive only caught two large fish and i have had about 100+ trips there as it is right next to my house. even then, they were only about 3-4.5 pounds. most of them are 6-12 inches. also the water is very very dirty. what color, size, and style do you guys suggest i use?

Mini Bass Boat Advise
i have a pelican bass raider 10e. Pros: awesome little boat. so comfortable to use, easy and comfortable to use with just one person lots of room very stable very customizable bow and transom motor mounts pre wired fits in back of a truck with no problem, or on top of any vehicle easy to make a trailer for inexpensive handles cleat ramX material can go in very shallow places easy to clean doesn't gather water in hulls ( i accidentally forgot to put the drain plugs in once and it still didnt get any water in it.) quiet user friendly rod holders Cons: rod holders arent good for trolling, only traveling only rated for a 3.5hp motor kind of narrow ( like 3 1/2 or 4 feet wide) doesnt come with trailer as you can see, the pros obviously outweigh the cons im 14 and lookin to upgrade boats in the next few years, but i definitely not be selling this boat. i love it too much

Kayak
hey check craigslist every few weeks for a deal. you said your lookin at a pelican canoe right? i have a pelican bass raider 10e which is like a little pontoon design of a boat. I got mine 2 years old used twice with a TM and some other small accessories for 550. but i have seen them on craigslist for 250. They are a lot more stable than canoes as i also have kayak. its about 16 feet and its an ocean kayak. its fun to fish from but i definitely prefer my bass raider. i can stand up in it and everything is just a lot easier IMHO.

Bass Raider Questions
Hey everyone, I have a Pelican Bass Raider 10E that I haven't really done too much to yet. I keep it at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia so i will be using it for stripers just as much as i will be for LM. I normally fish alone and I was wondering if anyone had any unique ideas for things I could add to the boat. I went to Walmart yesterday and found a livewell pump system for 40 bucks that i will be using as my bilge pump and my pump for my livewell. I tied about 5 inches of rope to the handles on either end on one side and on the other end of the rope i attached a large caribeaner to the end of each 5inch section so i can dock easily and not have to deal with a lot of rope. I might ditch this system as it only allows me to attach to my dock as i have little circle screws in mine and i cant attach to cleats. Motor wise i have a 30lb thrust minn kota trolling motor on the stern which i will be moving to the bow as soon as i can get the plug from dicks sporting goods. does anyone suggest any of the bigfoot attachments for a trolling motor? I not too sure if i like them or not as i usually sit down while i fish but i might change that as well this summer I am currently looking for a 3 or 3.5 HP outboard. The max i can have is 3.5 HP or 36 pounds. i have a simple battery that i only run the motor on. i dont have a case for it that i like. but i did just find that minn kota one tonight with circuit breakers and stuff. i have a moderately old fish finder that i am working on rigging up. I have the transducer at the end of a metal pipe that is not circular, but square-shaped instead. the walls are relatively thin and from wall to wall it is about 3/4 inch. I have got it set up so that i have the transducer in a few inches of water and a clamp that attaches to the bow motor mount.... i will post pictures soon as that sounds slightly confusing. the seats are the ones that came with the boat, the regular non-folding ones. I might replace one of them with a nice cushioned chair for me when i get the money For music, i was able to come across a duffel bag with a FM reciver, AUX input and two speakers built into a few of the pockets. its nothing serious, but i thought it would be fun to have when im out on my boat just having fun. Since I am going to begin using one battery for 3 different things, should i look at getting another battery? or will one be fine? I am only 14, so all of this is new to me and I'm wanting to make my little boat as much of a fishing machine as i can. I have also gotten a plastic storage container that just fits in the foot area which i love. I can put all my tackle boxes and such inside, put the top on, and that keeps the rain and dew off over night. I put PVC pipe in the corners to hold rods when the lid is off. I have been playing different with different ways to rig up my boat in my head, but as it is at the lake right now and i live in another state, i wont be able to see it or work on it until march and even then i will probably only be there for maybe a long weekend. :'( She is my first boat and i love her to pieces. I'm looking to upgrade in the next 3 or 4 years, but im not selling this boat, so im not afraid of investing in it. Any ideas any of you guys may have for pimping out this boat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for the input!

Plastic Bass Buster boats
Pelican all the way!!!! I'm 14 and bought a 10ft bass raider. it is sooooo nice! i made a little dolly out of PVC for it so i can walk it down to the water at Smith mountain lake. it is madddd stable. its crazy. ive fished from jon boats and my boat. a jon boat was really shakey for me. it was unnerving. i cant tip my boat and im 150. i will stand on the side and it wont go under the water. its long enough on either side that i put my rods in each side which leaves the floor to what ever else i wanna do to it. because its so stable, i can jump out and go for a swim and then get back in with no problem! I can lie completely down in the deck. i made my own little boat box which sits in the front and has built in rod holders and holds all my gear+tackle and its water tight! a plastic boat is very practical for me. the only thing i dont like about it is that i cant use it enough it is rated for a 3.5 hp but im pretty sure it could do a 4hp with no problem. there are two motor mounts. one in the front and one in the back. you can put plywood on the floor to make it feel even more stable! it wont be more stable, but it will feel like it is, plus if you are barefoot, it will be more comfortable than standing on the little ridge type floor.

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
I posted a pic with the dolly that I use in the pics above, real easy to use. Found it through a youtube video that had a link to their website. But can be easily constructed. Thanks Sippi. How many inches are there between the 2 bunks on the dolly? Don't the angled braces between the 2 pontoons(underside of boat) interfere with the 2 bunks? Are the 2 bunks 2X6's? I'm trying to figure out how to build that dolly. well the middle PVC pipe isn't glued in yet, so it can be adjusted to fit either on the inside of the pontoons or the outside. we still have to adjust it

Nav lights...do I need 'em?
according to the virginia boaters regulations, if the boat is under 10hp, then only a 360 degree white light is needed. i have a boat powered by a trolling motor and i have the white light. no front red or green lights are needed.

Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
yea weird, the one with the extra wiring (10E) is the cheaper one....Thats a good deal...In one of my earlier posts i put a link to the plug you would need for your trolling motor up front - its also at dicks.... Red, id love to see pics of your setup ! you dont have any leaks drilling right into the boat itself? i thought about it but got nervous about leaks well wouldnt you just put some marine grade adhesive stuff on the screw for a tight fit? i forget the name of the stuff though.

Help me "make an offer" on an old aluminum V-bottom
i would say depending on the year, you should start at 175 if its 2000 or older, maybe $200 if its younger than that.

My New Combo (:

Rod types
hey guys im trying to get situation specific gear now, and so i thought id ask you guys about casting rods. what action length and tip would you use for 1.carolina rigging 2.crankbaits 3.shakey head 4. top water (buzzbaits, poppers, sammys) 5. frogs 6.jigging 7.T-rigging also, for the rods that say what they are best for on the shaft, is that accurate? or just a marketing thing.
