  1. Alright guys, I went out for like 3 hours today (2pm to 5pm) to a lake I've always known about but never fished. Lake is typically pretty clear from what I've heard, but today there had been so much wind earlier that the water got cloudy... good? Maybe.... I had 3 fish total: First fish on a 3.8 Keitech with leadhead Second fish on a drop shot with roboworm Third fish on the Keitech again Lures I tried: Lipless for a little bit Crankbait for a little bit Keitech swimbait (mostly) Dropshot Spinnerbait (at the very end for only a few casts) Neko rig Key things to note: Yes, I'm lucky to live in CA where the weather is always nice. I think it was over 80 degrees today? I snagged a LOT! I think I lost over 5 setups? You'll see some submerged trees/big bushes in the background. Very frustrating. All my snags came on deep (10ft+ trees) I didn't get any bites right as dark approached. I was expecting a lot more bites towards the end of the day, but most bites came in my first hour... I'm probably thinking I was fishing a little bit too finesse for the water clarity, however, it was slick calm and super sunny out... I focused on fishing a steep rock bank given the time of year (access to deep water)... Advice appreciated: Given the dirtier water and the rocks I was fishing and all the submerged trees I was snagging, is there any super good lure choices in this scenario? Any other info I missed, let me know and I can add... (but won't provide the name of the body of water hahahah) Thanks for your help! See attached pictures...
  2. You have already got a lot of responses. There are also a few other threads that have some suggestions from days past:
  3. Yes Daiwas are always larger with their model numbers.
  4. I've noticed the site being very slow as well. Sounds like you're on it, any 'hints' as to what you're finding? DDOS? etc?
  5. I won't name the lake, but the lake in CA with the biggest spotted bass has a public launch with no fee. Imagine that. I just about peed my pants I was so excited the day I launched my boat at that lake. Too bad I live at least 6 hours away.... It had a nice paved ramp, etc. It's obviously sponsored by someone, whether the state, department of waterways, the county, or someone. As mentioned in a previous post, other states use the 'other' fees we get charged to maintain the ramps, etc. CA just hits you all along the way, with no breaks. I do like the idea that some of the fees go towards stocking the lake. Obviously not all fee payers are fisherman, so not all the money can go towards stocking. Sadly, all my lakes I pay fees at don't do any stocking, so the money is going elsewhere. Like you said, I'm free to contact my local parks and rec department who is collecting the fees to see where they go. I'm sure they go somewhere, whether or not I agree with where they go is another question. It all goes back to the basic principle of getting taxed in too many ways. CA has income tax, and sales tax. You pay when you make money, then pay AGAIN to spend the money. Interesting concept. But we live in america, I guess it's the price you pay. As for security, I've never see any security officers, but maybe that's lopped into the local 'park rangers' who are staffed doing various projects, but I'm not sure security patrol is the high one on the list... I'd probably rather take my chances of break ins compared to paying 30 dollars per day to go to my local lake. Just my .02 cents, rambling on...
  6. Nice fish (and boat)! How did you take that last picture (drone, selfie stick, friend?)? Any details how you caught the fish?
  7. Hmm didn't work for me, but not sure why... The reel also I was trying to buy was charging me for tax, so that was a bummer compared to the old days. Life goes on!
  8. So you're saying your entry fee pays to have people pick up trash? If there wasn't so many DUMB people who littered and left their crap, you're saying we wouldn't have to pay for an entry fee? What a concept... You're saying that Perris charges an entry fee, but despite the entry fee, they still don't have enough park staff to pick up all the trash? Seems like an ineffective entry fee... or all that money is getting sunk into the state somewhere else...
  9. I live in the Rupublik of Kalifornia, and it's pretty sad, the $20-$25 I pay every time to go to the lake is definitely a deterrent. It puts a damper on my bass fishing hobby for sure! There's even lakes you have to reserve and pay ticketmaster fees!! https://www.sandiego.gov/reservoirs-lakes/barrett-reservoir#undefined
  10. Wow, pretty big news! The industry is constantly changing after many many years of not much change. For better or for worse, it'll be interesting to see how it all progresses. I previously liked the variety of all the different tourney trails, just as I enjoy the variety of different tackle shops. Monopolies aren't a favorite of mine. I almost created a duplicate thread, any way to make the subject of this thread a little more specific/applicable so people scanning around can more easily recognize what it's about?
  11. I think this is the best description of what he is doing, is he hitting the reel handle on his hip? or something else? Thanks for the better description. Definitely a signature move... Yeah, sadly at Oroville, most fish are like .75 - 1lb, so I suppose to him the 2.5lb fish was 'giant'... but in normal terms, giant should be 10+lb. You also get people trying to hype of their videos with catchy titles...
  12. Does anyone set the hook with one hand/one arm? I personally always seem to have one hand on the rod and one on my reel handle... One spot I saw an amazing one hand hookset was in a youtube video, it's almost a form of art! haha. Is this common? Do any of you guys do this? Thoughts? Comments? This is purely just a post out of curiosity...
  13. I just received an email (in 2019) that references this video. I also fish saltwater a lot and they no longer use needles, they use a weighted device that takes the fish back down and then lets it go once it is at the proper depth: https://www.sportsmans.com/fishing-gear-supplies/fishing-accessories/hook-keepers/removers/seaqualizer-fish-release-tool/p/1469257?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIh7Kc6a3v4wIVEMNkCh0kPwpwEAQYASABEgL2hPD_BwE I 'like' to think this is way better than using the needle, and could be utilized in freshwater bass fishing instead of the needle, but would love some feedback.
  14. Ktp 25% off today only 6 items, code FLASH.
  15. Thats the thing. There is no 'link'. You must be an email subscriber to Dicks and they have to have sent it to you. Are you a current subscriber? You may check your spam or trash folder in case it got filtered out. I checked and I received the 20% off in my email.
  16. Bass pro and Cabelas have free 2 day shipping, no minimum purchase.
  17. Alright guys.... the infamous eBay coupon is back, but pretty secretive. It looks like it is 10% with a max discount of $25 dollars. It only works on one item. You have to sign up and be a member of slickdeals, which is a good site anyways. It seems there might be exclusions, but I'm not sure yet what they are, I didn't want to try anything in fear my unique code would be blown away.... Go to this page here: https://slickdeals.net/coupons/ebay/ It will ask you to login, then eventually you can show your coupon code, which is some long weird unique string. Let me know if anyone is able to take advantage of this... it's only 10% but better than nothin...
  18. Yeah, it seems the maps that come on units aren't very good. They definitely found a way to make more money by making you purchase the maps (decent ones at least) as an accessory.
  19. No left hand models? Also, seems the discount is already applied, so we can't stack the DAD20 code?
  20. I think eBay spoiled everyone. Back 10 years ago, I don't think I ever remember 15% off sales. Obviously they did it to create some hype, but it is hard to give people something then take it away. 15% off at a retail store where they control their margins is a whole different story than 15% off at an auction site... Trust me, I want another 15% off sale too!
  21. Glad you were able to take advantage. I had never even heard of that reel, may have looked at it a little closer had I know some other people liked it. What size did you get? For freshwater fishing or salt? For everyone else, amazon sale is over, I think it was like a 12 hr daily sale or something.
  22. Amazon has 25% off for a limited time on a select amount of fishing equipment, some ABU IKE reels and Penn Saltwater stuff. https://www.amazon.com/s?i=sporting&rh=n%3A3375251%2Cn%3A11130423011%2Cn%3A11130517011%2Cn%3A11130520011%2Cn%3A18924608011&s=price-desc-rank&qid=1559153182&ref=sr_st_price-desc-rank
  23. I'm surprised no one has said it yet, but the TW sale is live for me now... 15% + 10% more for the veterans! Thank you for your service!
  24. 40 code was working for me last night too, now its not. Must be over. I was still lookin around, I guess you gotta pull the trigger fast on those things!
  25. Me too, but they had this promotion about a month ago and I got some weights then too. If your wife/girlfriend/friend has an ebay account you may be able to get them to buy you more with their account too...
