  1. If you're looking for a true MH power this isn't the rod for you. It has some decent power but is a mod/fast taper closer to a popping blank but with more power in the very butt section of the rod. However, the first 1/2 of the rod is between a ML and a Medium power.
  2. Float-n-fly with a small hair jig, especially if they're as pressured as you say.
  3. Apparently way too many...As I can't quit collecting expensive custom North Fork Composites and Loomis GLX factory rods. I think one could easily get by with about 1/4 of the rods I have in my arsenal...but where's the fun in that. When you love your gear it just makes fishing that much more enjoyable. I love watching a quality rod load up on a fish....ahhh it's just a wonderful feeling.
  4. Thanks great stuff there. I'm a Loomis guy myself but have been tempted to try a longer 2 power DX Extreme rod for finesse fishing...pretty cool to see one in action. Have you used much Loomis? If so does the Dobyn hold it's own against Loomis? Gamma cool...I've never tried them. I can tell you I've tried a multitude of fluoro's and 95% of them are absolute garbage. The three I've found that work well for me in order are Toray Superhard Upgrad Soloroam, Seaguar Abrazx, and Sunline Shooter. The downside is the Toray and Sunline Shooter come at a major price. But the Toray lasts forever and is super abrasion resistant. I think I will give the edge a try I'm always up for trying new stuff. Was that a regular spool of (main line) Gamma 6 lb cut to length or was it leader material that comes pre-cut (ie leaders) like many salt water and fly fisherman use? Anyways you're using the double uni as your line to line knot? I've had good luck with the J knot but it can be bulky at times. I'll have to check out the double uni it was obviously working for you...as I could clearly see. You are really tuned in; great to watch someone on top of their game. That lake is beautiful. Do you ever take people out fishing up there? I've been planning to take a trip to the Northeast or upper midwest somewhere. I had on my list Lake Ontario, Champlagne, Eerie, and some other lakes around there...but after watching that Candlewood Lake is making the short list for sure.
  5. No the float-n-fly rod is the SMR1140s-ff it's 114" long(9'6")....the cool thing with Loomis is the first set of #'s is the length of the rod and the last # is the power (it's a 0 power or ultralight). Also with the smallmouth rods the first letter is either s (for spinning) or c for (casting) after the hyphen they state the use. The "sp" ending on the 913 is for soft plastics.
  6. Great Video! Makes me wish I was fishing right now. Looks like DH...was that Dale Hollow? Also I'm just getting into drop shotting more, but are you tying the leader to the braid with a knot (like the J knot or a bloodknot) or are you using a swivel? And I'm assuming the leader starts above the hook so the fish can't see the braid? I usually just fish mainline Fluorocarbon Toray Upgrade Soloroam, or Sunline Shooter...but I'm considering trying braid this season. Also roughly how far above the weight did you have your hook tied on?
  7. I recently went to my local bass pro to check out a couple of rods...this wasn't one of them, but I just couldn't put the rod down. It's a very unique rod it has a very dynamic tip and a pretty good amount of backbone in the last 1/3 of the rod, and with it's length it seems like it would work well for deep drop shotting, light shakeyheads, and dragging tubes. Loomis rates it as a 3 power, but to me it feels much more like a 2 power butt section with a medium light tip and mid section; plus it's more of a mod-fast action IMO. To those of you who have used it what did you think? And for what techniques did you use it for? Besides the aforementioned techniques I plan on using it to throw light finesse jig and porks 3/16 oz or less on the jig, 1/8 and 3/16 oz football and ball shakyhead jigs, spot remover (stand up light wire jigs) with just a pork trailer or a 4" chomper hula grub trailer, 4" senkos, light jerkbaits, etc... Another question is with the slower action and lighter tip does this rod have the power to set the hook on jigs, and tex-posed plastics? Thanks guys, Sam

  9. First let me say I exclusively fish for size...that being said: 1. yamamoto double tail hula grub (brown grape blk flk) on a 1/4 oz strike king shakyhead football jighead 2. Strike King Tour Grade Finesse Jig (Watermelon with red flk) with uncle Josh #11 pork trailer (trailer depends on hatch color and water color 3. a distant third; Yamamoto 4" senko (outperforms the imitators by far--but very pricey if bite is hot)
  10. Outside of Topeka.
  11. I almost forgot to pass along the most invaluable piece of info to anyone considering trying flouro. Tie the San Diego Jam Knot or the Double San Diego Jam...this is the most important part of fishing flouro. It sounds crazy but this is the ONLY knot that will consistently perform with flouro. I only wish someone would have told me that two years ago I lost countless lures and fish trying other knots. Tight lines.
  12. Just hide the receipts from the wife or signifigant other and price is just a number. Since switching to Inviz X I have no longer had problems with impact resistance (broken lines on Roland Martineszque hook-sets) and I've landed more big fish this season than any other in memory so early...this stuff really does seem to be invisible in the water. I agree on the price I tried one spool then bought 3 more...this stuff is pricey but IMO worth every penny.
  13. If you like Yo-Zuri Hybrid you really need to try Seaguar Inviz X; it's even more supple and thinner than Yo-Zuri and it's 100% flourocarbon. I've tried about every flouro or hybrid out there and this is the best line I've ever used.
  14. Hi guys...Newbie here I'm a die hard finesse fisherman. I probably haven't thrown a spinner, crankbait or any other reaction lure in 5 years. I live to catch smallies and largemouth on 6-10 lb test spinning gear. I'm a Loomis nut...with too much money wrapped up in rods than I would care to admit. I live for early spring, late fall and winter fishing. If the water temp's are in the 40's or even lower I can be found dragging split-shot tube rigs or fishing tiny finesse jigs (my favorite) or any other form of ultra finesse bait...probably on Seaguar Inviz-X flourocarbon, which I highly reccomend trying if you haven't. I've been on a month long fishing bender...alienating friends and family...and ticking my girlfriend off to no end. I look forward to picking up and sharing some good info on this site...and if anyone's interested I'm selling a Loomis BSR 802 rod over on the Flea Market Forum. I look forward to hearing from you guys...tight lines to all.
