  1. ...purchasing one tomorrow or early next week. Already know which way I'm leaning. I was just curious from those of you who have both which you prefer. And what the advantages are for each. I know the 50 is a little more compact and has a few more bearings...both have roughly the same spool size. The only reason I'm hesitant at all is I'm wondering if the 100 size Core would stand up to more abuse (from the fish I'm very easy on my tackle) ie...hook sets fighting, etc...and wondering if the 100 would be more versatile with allowing me to fish a wider variety of bait sizes. I know the 50mg is designed for finesse, but Tackletour (don't know why I even read anything off that lame ass site) said that when they tested the core 100 back in 2007 it casted light baits as well as the steez...and I have used a Steez and it was impressive when casting light baits. So if the 50 won't cast further I'm getting the 100...if, however, the 50 will cast and pitch further with baits under 1/4 ounce them I'm at a crossroads but probably leaning towards the 50. Any valuable input from people who own both reels would be appreciated....please don't compare it to the Diawas reels or anything like that I already know I'm getting a core just a little fickle on which one suits my style best, and if either is more durable or refined. Thanks.
  2. Just curious what knot(s) are you using?...I use the san diego jam, and that knot Grigsby is always showing on youtube (I think someone actually had a link to it in a post earlier this week.)
  3. Specifically for shakeyheads....no question about it: G Loomis SHR 822 (the mag medium power) comes in GLX and IMX/GL3 fiber blend (Loomis' new bass blends)...rod fishes the medium to heavier duty and deep water jigs well. I don't use spinning rods as much any more so I sold mine but still kick my myself in the rear for it almost every day...one of the most sensitive sticks you will ever fish. And the tip is perfect for shaking...very fast taper.
  4. I'm using the Toray Solaroam Superhard Upgrade Fluorocarbon...they have the newer Bawo lines out that specialize in one thing for instance: finesse. Here's a link to the one I'm buying (I caught 2 bass over 6 lbs on it and 5 more fish with two being over 3.5lbs without retying yesterday) link: http://www.***.com/Toray_Solaroam_Upgrade_Fluorocarbon_164yds/descpage-BTUF.html And I'm only fishing 10 lb test...and it stands up to my try-and-flip-the-boat-hooksets; I just really love this stuff and can't imagine anyone having trouble with it. And I agree with the above posts Seaguar has gone right down the toilet: they use to make a quality line now 1/2 their spools aren't worth the effort it takes to throw them in the nearest trash can.
  5. Never had any of these issues. In fact Toray has been the most consistent performing line I've ever fished but to each his own. The stiffness part is to be expected if you're fishing casting gear it makes no difference...now on spinning gear it's a different animal. Also the stiffness of line is 99% of the time what adds to tensile strength and hook setting power...limp soft lines are easy handling, think Seaguar Invisx, but have terrible longevity and shock strength. Never tried that other line you mentioned...good luck and tight lines.
  6. Had the same thing with an old symetre...not sure the model but it was purchased around 2005...anyways cleaned it and it was fine...almost same thing. Eventually though it did have to have a gear and pinion replaced and of course Shimano's excellent customer service fixed it for free...a side note that reel doesn't have a sealed drag like the Saros, Stradic, and any models that cost more than these two. Don't dunk that reel if it can be avoided...it's only asking for trouble.
  7. That kind of length in a bass rod: dragging tubes on main lake points in deep water. Also could be a good finesse/light carolina rig rod. You could also work small jigs in deep water with a rod that length...those would be the most logical applications...also light duty cranking when you need to cast a mile Lastly if you're a shore fisherman it would help you get a cast out far into rivers or smaller lakes.
  8. Factory built rods; Loomis by a mile, their graphite is still head and shoulders above anyone elses (in factory built rods)...love the GLX and IMX, haven't fished the NRX because if I'm spending that kind of money I'm doing a custom and using:... North Fork Composites, Gary Loomis' new graphite blank company, who only produces bass blanks right now. Their Next Gen IM (intermediate mod) is a pretty big step above GLX in terms of weight and is more sensivite to boot....I've heard their HM (high mod) is unbelievable but it costs more and my 3 IM rods are tremendous rods...eventually I'll pull the trigger on HM.
  9. If you're going to spend the money on Shooter you're WAY better off getting Toray Superhard Upgrade it blows Shooter off the map in every aspect. However, Sniper FC is just as good or really darn close as Shooter for a lot less...so I would say def get the Toray if you want the ultimate fluoro or go with Sniper FC if you want to save some dime and still have a great line...in the end all 3 are great lines, but price point Shooter isn't worth the premium price if that makes sense...there are better lines in that price class.
  10. You raise an interesting quandry...and you have a point to an extent. But the alabama rig gets fish in a more active feeding mode and takes out their wariness b/c they think they are attacking a school of baitfish, thus keeping them from being line shy...they're in attack first ask later mode if you will. Whereas fluoro works well with spooky or weary fish in clear water conditions....and is a tremendous advantage when using bottom bouncing techniques and finesse fishing like jigging. My buddy use to fish braid and fished a clear water lake with me...where the fish LMB and SMB mainly bite on jigs. After getting beat several times using the same baits he asked me my secret....I handed him a spool of Seaguar (which I've since got away from b/c of inconsistency issues) he went on to catch a 5 pound bass and caught his first smallmouth and went on to catch about 15 fish that afternoon...he has never went back to braid. IMHO on an alabama rig braid would work fine...not for finessing finicky bass. Also fluoro sinks where braid floats this allows you better feel of the bottom and light takes in deep water.
  11. x2 on this....also if you aren't careful when you tie the knot you can weaken up to 2 ft of the line...and I use to fish P-line CX and it was good for 2-6 trips then would break on dinks...I would personally change to a better line IMO
  12. You can get the factory spool weight specs online in grams...I don't remember the sites but look up supertuning and they will show up.
  13. What was the original price on those?...I never bought one when they were available.
  14. No way! That is awesome! How much? I fish lefties...was is a lefty...if so you need to buy it for me.
  15. You'll want a very long rod to fish swimbaits and to get across that canal from shore...I would either try one of the 8ft or 8'6" hot shot rods or backbounce rods from Loomis.
  16. Cool pic...I've got a golden too. No your experience is typical and what I've heard from every Chronarch E user and my own personal experience with my 2 chronarch 200 E's....they cast much much further than the curado, and are a lot less geary, they just have that buttery feel. Every time I hear someone say they are the same reel, and I mean every single time the person saying this hasn't used the new Chronarch's....Shimano really nailed it with this reel and for $200 it's a steal.
  17. Ah this again...I bet you haven't fished the Chronarch...make that guarantee that or you wouldn't make that statement. Much more refined and smoother. Outperforms my supertuned Curoado E's that have ceramic bearings. Not going to argue...buy one fish it then come back and make the same statement...I can guarantee you won't.
  18. You should try Toray Superhard Upgrade...check the tackletour stats from their fluoro shootout...don't quote me I try to stay off that junk site as much as possible, but they did a bunch of lab tests and I think it had abrasion resistance about 2 to 3 times that of the mono, and was way way ahead of all fluoros especailly in abrasion resistance. I fish the stuff and I can tell you rocks and zeb's don't effect it definately worth a try IMHO.
  19. Thanks RW...I was wondering...because i noticed the same thing....I just like the feel of the 200 size Shimanos in my hand...they others are too narrow. I do really like the 100 sizes though. Like the old Chronarch 100D...don't know why they don't offer more that size. And there's no way in hell I'm buying a Quantum Tour...like the size and feel but hate the quality, longevity, and quantum doesn't stand behind their stuff like Shimano does.
  20. I've heard bad stuff...but people say all kinds of stuff; it could be good i haven't used it so I can't tell you. I can tell you though that most cheap fluoros wear out quickly they are strong for the first 2-10 trips but then start breaking on almost every hookset...if that happens then you'll have your answer...if not you might have found a line that will work for you good luck.
  21. Do the size 50 reels like the Chronarch 50E or the older Curado 50E's really cast light baits further than the 200 size? I mentioned the older Curodo's b/c the Chronarch's are new and many haven't tried them. It makes sense with the smaller spool that they would, but my fishing buddy had a Curado 50e and it didn't seem to cast further than my 200e that's why I was asking....I'm either going to purchase a Chronarch 51e or another 200e for finesse baitcasting...I would really like to get a 100 size reel, but the only one I think Shimano has is the Core 100 magnesium and I don't want a reel that won't fish saltwater, and it's a little more than I want to spend. Anybody have experience with these...also are the smaller reels as tough as the larger reels? I noticed they have a different set up around the line gude in the front of the reel. Thanks guys, Sam
  22. Talked to a Loomis rep and a baitshop in Cali that carries Loomis' full line-up...and they both confirmed that they BCR 852 is lighter in the tip and mid but more powerful in the butt section due to it's faster taper...while the MBR 842 is closer to a MBR 843 in the tip than a BCR 852 but is lighter in the butt section...if anyone was curious.
  23. Red Label is garbage.
  24. Steezaddict pretty much gave you an accurate summary...he's obviously tried about all of them out there, because I know I have and I 100% agree with his post. I did recently purchase some Maxima 100% Fluoro I'll keep you updated...it feels pretty supple and similar to Seaguar Abrazx...if it holds up well and doesn't sufffer phantom breaks or wear out quickly (things bad fluoro are noted for) it should be alright... The only thing I would disagree with is I like the Sunline Sniper FC as a good middle of the road Fluoro, but it is a little stiff for spinning gear unless you stay under 8 lb test...spinning gear and fluoro is trickly...Seaguar is soft and castable but it doesn't have good tensile strength. Do you plan on using this line on spinning gear?...if so Abrazx would be my choice out of the stuff i've used, but again it has failed me in the clutch a few times. I've heard good stuff about High Seas Fluoro but I haven't used it. That's about all I can offer. I hope you find one that works well for you...finding a bad fluoro is easy a good one is a lot harder. Also be very careful tying your knots and wet (make that really soak the line good) before tightening and don't kink the line....there are a few knots that work well with fluoro but I've found the San Diego Jam to be the most reliable.
  25. Well I've fished and I own it...multiple reels in each series...so I'm speaking from experience. They go head to head in my boat every trip this season (roughly 20 trips already) Where as you speak from second hand knowledge. That's fine you entitled to your opinion but your opinion is based on heresay and what you've read on internet boards, not experience...Fish one then come back and tell me I'm wrong. Until then I'm not going to argue with you...there's no way possible you could know more about these reels than me because you have no head to head experience with both series.
