  1. I also would go with a Black Cavitron buzzbait. Black has been awesome for me. I would also add a prop bait... Alot of fun and catch some nice fish. Walking the dog does take some practice, it is much easier with a shorter rod.
  2. Awesome fish Dwight! LC Pointer strikes again.
  3. I didn't think so when I tried one... If I lived near saltwater or had more of a chance to fish it I might feel differently. EDIT A touch smoother and a better casting reel but not $100 better for me at the time. If there was some feature set you needed that was on this one and not Curado I could see the extra dough. What can you get the Core for?
  4. LOL Winter really sucks! Great catch and a fine start to the fishing.
  5. I like the idea of a thread open for us to post in. That should keep it fun for sure. Maybe we could have a summary every (2) weeks or something just so everyone knows the standings. and just to be clear topwater soft plastics? Rage Toad, Yum Money hound etc... In or Out? How do we want to work the culling system? After people have (5) we can start to remove the smaller ones? I will make a trophy spook, complete with all the trimmings. That should be fun as well. Maybe it should gold with some engraving sealed in a block of polycarbonate to simulate ice.
  6. Yes, me and my extensive topwater collection will be in on this one. Particularly excited about the buzzjet and pop-max but honestly spooks and rebel pop-r's are my bread & butter.
  7. You know I'm in!!!!
  8. Rage soft plastics Cavitron Buzzbait A few cranks like the KVD 1.5 LC Pointer 78 / 100 Few jigs (finesse, football, swim etc) ^ Weapons of bass destruction
  9. Thanks for this. I was considering the NRX 803 for a bit. My BCR803 GLX is my gold standard. My favorite rod and if it broke I would buy a new one in a heartbeat!
  10. Smokin' Rooster or Eeliminator would be my choice.
  11. Like I said... 2010 STX. Great reel.
  12. I have an STX, Curado 201e7, Winch and a Curado 51E... When taken care of and tuned properly they will all cast a mile. STX is really nice casting reel. Its all personal preference...
  13. Look for a used STX... The best all around reel in the Revo line, IMO. 7.1 for plastics and 6.4 for spinners. 7' HF for T-rigs 7' MF for spinners
  14. This is what makes me scared to try an NRX... The BCR803 GLX is my all time favorite for weightless plastics. Pretty sure I would go broke if NRX is that much better. I may try it though.
  15. Not trying to start a war or anything but really? I love ultra soft especially at the price but its simply not as good as Tatsu. Did I mention I have several spools of Yo-Zuri for a ton of different applications. Its a great line but Tatsu is the best, IMO of course.
  16. LOL yep. White and Smoke are real killers.
  17. Buy the best rod you can afford for the specific technique you intend to use it for. DVT - Excellent advice as always I have Loomis, Powell, St. Croix, Dobyns, Shimano and Abu Garcia... Options and more options.
  18. Strongly agreed. Besides 6-8# CXX about as tough as I ever need. I use 6# 100% on my dropshot rig.
  19. Tube, Beaver and Rage products.
  20. For baitcasters Mono - Berkley Big Game 12# / 15# Co-poly - Yo-Zuri Hybrid 12# / 15# Braid - Fireline 30# / 5x# Flouro - Triline 100% or BPS XPS in 12# / 15# You could get away with Big Game and Yo-Zuri for everything except drop shot and heavy salad though. 900 and 600 spools are dirt cheap.
  21. Good advice so far. Weightless plastics on top is a winner here. You can use just about anything from a grub, worm, creature or frog... This would be one of my 1st options here: http://www.***.com/Strike_King_Rage_Eeliminator/descpage-SKRE.html A Swim jig is another appealing option. You can swim it over the top and kill it next to most likely holding spots.
  22. I have this rod and this is very true. The Avid MHF is a stout rod. It feels more lke a heavy even more so than my Dobyns Champion 704C... Anyway should work great for you. Especially at that price.
  23. LOL I fully agree. Like PLINE CXX or other cheaper lines. Very important.
  24. Like Deliverance... I just shake my head and move on. Hopefully I can scare up at least one fish tomorrow. Although the South Hero side of the fill was dead for me until June last year.
  25. This is a good option as well. Swarming Hornet with a LF Magic Shad seems to be popular for brown fish. The bubblegum or white weightless Super Fluke Jr also has a devoted following.
