  1. I trig mine with a 3/0 EWG gammy weightless, normally on flouro... Cast, let fall to the bottom on semi-slack line; pop it off the bottom using the rod. Sometimes slow, sometimes fast etc. Hold on!! Watch your line close as it gets destroyed on the fall. Hopping it works to but normally not necessary with active smallies.
  2. A cool & balmy 93 here with 1000% humitidy... Thank god for A/C but I did run 5 miles yesterday in the heat. I was delirious when I finished.
  3. Depends of what application... Field and Stream TechSpec or an Ugly Stik Lite is tough to beat as a cheap rod.
  4. Gonna have to disagree here... There's a reason why so many people use it today and so many weapon systems are based on it. Its scary accurate and will slay 4 legged critters at 300+ yards.
  5. Nothing to see here... Move along Smoke and watermelon are awesome colors for grubs. I like the 5" on a 1/4 jig or weightless on a 2/0 EWG.
  6. Hunted with that too. Too much gun for most thing around here but excellent round.
  7. Shimano Curado 51E G Loomis BCR803 GLX 12# Tatsu ^^^ Such a great lightweight plastics rig
  8. It's an excellent quality rod (light, balanced, nice components) but no where near as sensitive as the GLX. I think I may have been expecting too much from it. It's has a soft tip though so that makes it fairly versatile.
  9. Rig them weedless or stupid rig them Or invest in the GYBC Fat Ika which is an incredible bait that is very versatile.
  10. Carbon Matrix is a sick bow. What are you shooting for a sight? Last one that really blew me away was the Black Gold Flashpoint with the tiny pins (.10 ?) and it was on a Carbon Element. If you concerned about ranging your shots, I would recommend hitting the range and doing some unknown distance estimates. I also practice from twice the range I want my ideal shot at.
  11. I've hunted with almost everything on that list. I really like the .270, flat, fast and accurate. .308 always gonna have a special place in my heart as well.
  12. For $200 I would look for a used G Loomis GLX BCR803... Best rod I've ever fished for bottom contact. Currently I have: (1) Powell Max 683 (1) G Loomis GLX mentioned above (2) St. Croix Avids Cranking & a AVC70MHF (2) Shimano Compres cranking rods (1) Dobyns Champion 704 GLX everyday and twice on Sunday. Amazing rod and can be found in the flea market for a steal. I'm scared to try the NRX.
  13. It was the most epic night of fishing for me ever. 53 smallies in 3 hours with 5+ being 18" or better. I went through (2) bags of bait & caught (7) at dusk with the buzzjet and Kelly J. Was truly a great night to be fishing.
  14. Epic night of smallie fishing here including my PB smallie this year on a buzzjet! 20.5" L x 12" G = 4.94 pound blockheaded monster. Didn't snap a pic as it was pretty much pitch black and I only had my phone. But what a fish.
  15. I've had some great luck with the Kelly J lately but nothing worth posting. I'm heading into Bucketmouth land tonight so lets see if we can find a lunker!
  16. The Type-R is an awesome reel. Would like to fish the MGX to see how it feels. Its crazy light but then I have a 51E Curado.
  17. One thing I always consider post spawn is optimal times to find active fish... Early morning and evening fishing becomes the staple of my smallmouth fishing. Active SM + weightless plastics is the most fun I have when I'm fishing.
  18. split shot rig gets the call when I need so weight generally. Heavy cover is normally a pegged bullet weight. Weightless plastics is by far my most productive.
  19. match the hatch = win Although I've never seen a bubblegum colored baitfish. Maybe bass don't like chick colors. I like natural colors but pink does really seem to get the smallies excited from time to time.
  20. ummm... LOL STX is a great reel; although I like my 201 and 51 better. and no lefty??? Go away. That and for $30 more you can get the Daiwa Zillion Type R.
  21. Great fish and great pics!
  22. Winch and 10# Hybrid works great for me.
  23. Ripping cranks out of cover or banging off stuff works best for me. Flutter and die when around cover is also effective. Strike King 5 series has been my go-to but Lucky Craft is slowly taking over.
  24. I'm on the board... 13.5 inches, 7 girth LMB. Nice little LMB on a Rebel Pop-r last night. Fishing calc says 1.25 pounds which seems right. Was getting dark and I was getting eaten alive so I was rushed. I wish this one had come on topwater but alas Fat IKA strikes again.
  25. This sounds entertaining! Game 7!!!!! Go B's!
