Thanks Tom I've read a bit about the split shot rig. Its kind of like the old Carolina rig but finesse right? Have to give that a spin this Saturday also. Thanks Rick- When all else fails whats your go to?
Always have a fluke/weightless rod on deck ! Nice- When all else fails whats your go to?
Good stuff guys I appreciate it!! Thx Rick- When all else fails whats your go to?
I was fishing a 3.8 yesterday LOL just dragging and jigging slow all I had was Blue gill flash maybe needed a different color?. Did get one on a Dark Sleeper though. Also a Chiggercraw on a ewg nedhead pulled in a nice keeper. (great minds think alike) When we did start getting some wind in the afternoon I got a nice one on the old Spinner bait. No takers on a crankbait shallow or deep. Thanks Rick- When all else fails whats your go to?
Thanks A-Jay Never tried swimming them. Have to give it a go next Saturday.? Rick- Spinning Reel Line
7# Sunline Sniper on my ML 682 Champ. With a 2500 Sustain. Don't like braid but that's me. Been trying different lines for spinning for 30 yrs and this is my favorite. (Cant afford Tatsu ?) Rick- When all else fails whats your go to?
First off that is the biggest smallie I've ever seen!!? I have been throwing the Lifted Jigs EWG ned with a lot of success this year. I actually caught some smallies on a lake that isn't known for smallmouth with a ned. Biggest probably 2#. But the Z man standard one I loose more jigs getting hung up than I can deal with.(might be doing something wrong.?) Thanks. Rick- When all else fails whats your go to?
Hey Guys I did a search on site with little success so if this has been cover 100 times please forgive. So the water is 85 degrees, no wind, and bluebird skies. I understand water clarity, cover and or structure are also factors. Just wondering what do you throw when nothing seems to be working or what is your confidence rig? I'm old school but have been experimenting with some New baits or New to me. But my( got to get the skunk out of the boat) is probably a 7" blue fleck power worm on a 1/8oz T-rig. Thanks Rick- DROPSHOT ROD RECOMMENDATIONS
The M1 is a great rod. Very fast but soft if that makes any sense. I don't drop shot usually but did take it to Erie and had a PB of 4+ on the drop shot. The handle doesn't hold up very well. But I fished this rod ALOT more than my Kistlers, Champ or my Zodia rods.Used it for pond hoppin and always seemed to find it in my hand on the boat. The blank is balanced and light. I had an old Fuego 2000(light gray and red) on it. If it had a better reel seat like a VSS I would sell all my rods and replace with them. My boy has glued the handle back together a lot and still fishes with it. Rick- Need a High End jig rod
I got the H3 mh 7'1 for 3/8 - 1/2 oz jigs and it is awesome. It really has improved my jig fishing! I still fish Trigs on a 1st gen Helium mh 6'9 these rods just fish so good. Trey will help you decide and won't try to talk you in to anything except the right rod for what you want to fish on it. Rick- KLX Drop Shot Rod
Anyone of you guys fishing one ? Thinking about tryin one. How does it compare to a Dobyns ML champ or a Shimano M Zodia ? Or any other comparable rods? Thanks Rick- revox issue
I have 1st Gen Revos from the winch to SXTs never had trouble with any. Now my boys fight over them old reels and they're still goin strong. I also went to the CTs on my rods. I like the break and how they breakdown for maintenance better also. Seems easier to me. Although the drag on the Revos was better IMO..- Anyone else have this problem?
thx guys looks like I might get one of those fancy handles. ?- Anyone else have this problem?
O.K. sooo the cause has been found. The boy said he might have stepped on them getting into boat to get his tackle bag. Annd now I look stupid. Sorry for freakin It was just one side on the one reel. Not both reels, should of verified before posting.I had to send one in for service right after I got it so now alittle gun shy I guess. But the reels are awesome so far got a lot of work this year. Cant believe handles bent though! Thanks for the replies some made me laugh!! Especially after I reread my original post ?- Anyone else have this problem?
O.K. so I been tryin out the Tatula CTs this season. And have bent the handles on both of my reels. Never happened with my Abu reels. I'm a bigger guy 6'2 260 but always been pretty careful with my reels. Had to send one back to Daiwa because main shaft failure . Should I jump on the Shimano train or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Just wondering if anyone had any issues with them? Thanks Rick.- Which one?
Yes the Dobyns is more MH than H. Not sure why there labeled like that? I'm leaning towards the Dobyns. It balances better with my reel on it than the ALX. Even though the ALX is lighter. Thanks Rick- Which one?
Fish mostly lay downs, docks, brush, not a lot of mats around here. Got a Frog rod already so I use that if it gets thick. Thanks Rick- Which one?
Hey Guys So I remembered I have 50$ in Cabela's gift cards. So I raised budget. Which would you go with? Thanks Rick- Dobyns Sierra vs St. Croix Avid X
I have the Sierra 702 with a 2500 sustain on it . Balance is good. Use it for shaky head rod. It has a bit of Tip to it. The blank isn't as good as an SCIII( Avid X) and not as fast. I don't drop shot much unless I go to Lake Erie so I don't have a dedicated DS rod. I would go with the X. Rick - When all else fails whats your go to?
