  1. I think it is better to use "knots" that are not actually a knot. All the slips are excellent knots for any bait. If I had to pick it would be San Diego Jam and a Uni. They both are easy to tie and are slips.
  2. I just got done fishing a little while ago. I bought a new UL and gave my brother my old one and it had a X-4 X-Rap tied on it already. I threw a variety of things on my UL messing around as for a few and a few on regular bass tackle. I ended up with like 5 or 6 fish for the day. He threw that X-Rap like the whole time other then to test swim some new bigbaits he got. He probably need up with 25 or so fish and almost all on the tiny X-Raps. A fair amount of them are like the smallest fish you ever caught in your life and he throws baits bigger then them but a good amount of 1.5-2# fish also. He also got a cat at the end that was maybe close to 4# that tore up a ton of drag.
  3. They come with a rubberband on them as do all PP I think. I had another spool and cut those notches down flush with a razor but it still wanted to catch. I even hit it with a bit is sandpaper after that and no good still. I ended up just spooling off the side like a casting reel then I pushed all the twist out when I finally got on the water. Do all PP spools have that now or is it or is it only the smallest stuff meant for spinning so they can really F with you.
  4. I mean omg I have so many other spools thay don't have that but they are older. Who ever came up with the new design that serves no purpose as far as I can tell should be fired. I mean do they not fish and understand how the line comes off to spool a spinning rod. It's just so crazy to me.
  5. For ponds it's hard to beat a Rapala X-Rap size 4. I think they say like X-4. Put one of those bad boys on a UL and its game tkme. They don't suspend very deep at all and still kinda come through sparse weeds pretty good.

Well the Gyron is a "glide" bait
  7. So I haven't really bought braid in a while and had to pick up a spool for a new UL. Well anyways I got a spool of 10# for it and on both sides f the spool there are notches cut out. There is now way to actually spool it on the reel properly without it catchig the notch. It really makes no sense as far as I could tell since there are not there to hold the line as there is no split in it. On higher test that would be going on a casting reel I wouldn't care but on 10# that is obviously going on a spinning rod then why?
  8. I kinda forgot my name was Hatrix on here and now my avatar is the logo. It is just a name I have randomly used online for like 15 years probably. I do actually know Jeff personally and I just went to a benefit last weekend for his wife who has cancer. Really I only like up to X13 and anything after that is garbage. I don't even go to shows anymore since its not the same anymore. They play new stuff that none of us people who have been around want to hear and most of the old people don't even go anymore. I would only really go is Jmann was there and thats usually like halloween shows or something like that.

There is no reason to be afraid of a Gantarel. I don't really understand the bad things happen casting part. Even if you did backlash its not that heavy at only 2 oz so its very unlikely it will pop off. I will just assume you don't use braid so I wouldn't worry. It really isn't all that expensive anyways as far as "swimmers" go. It's the same price as TW sells S-Waver 200's now.
  10. Does that fats deluxe bag have a light on it? I had read somewhere it came with a light in the lid.

Ya it's confusing with the glide thing since musky glides have been around forever and are totally different. The 2 piece one are also known as swimmers so that kinda helps with the mixup. If you are looking for a good Jackal "swimmer" or just a good one that isn't a trout profile the Gantatell is nice and it is also cheap. If you can find one they are like 40 bucks. As for having better luck on the Gyron I have caught a good among of fish and a couple pretty big ones for my neck of the woods on it. It just is not a bait I care for over others so I never really fish it. I fished it last weekend just for kicks since it's been like a year and I got one on it. There just is not anything it really seem to excell at. I Know a guy out in Cali who paints baits and swears by them. He has shown me pictures of monsters he has got on them and it's a go to bait for him. It just isn't for me.
  12. Over time all my fingers eventually moved to the front grip. I can't say exactly when but when I was a little kid I know I held it half and half. It makessense on balance because the weight is now directly under your hand. After reading this and how many people hold it all in the front I don't understand why now a days its so hard to find a rod with a front grip bigger then a inch or two. I can't hold it that way on a UL usually as the short neck will make the bail hit my knuckles sometimes. I can be really tuff to find a spinning rod I like anymore with the absence of front grips. Lots of rods I liked and would of bought I didn't because of the front grip.

I have a gyron or I wouldn't be commenting about what I don't like. To me it is a stretch to consider it a glide. However people classify a bait is there own things I suppose and whatever works for them is fine. Yes it is light but also heavy for most bass lures as I think it weight 3/4 or a bit more. Usually small baits don't glide well because of weight. They don't make the forward momentum to keep carrying them or a big enough vortex to push them away. Having to snap or pull your rod to make them glide is usually not how it os done with 2 piece glides. To achieve the farthest and most fluid glide you use the reel and give you rod to it to create plenty of slack and no resistance from you. There are exceptions to small baits that still glide insanely far but I only know a few. One of these doesn't really glide at all and the other I can get over 2' easily. Guess what one. They are fairly close in size but one weighs a decent amount more. There is also a huge difference in craftsmanship and a big difference in price. You get what you pay for.
  14. You are supposed to avoid where the ring splits. That's the reason behind oval split rings. You are also making it much easier for your line to work its way between the ring.
  15. I just found out about them at the end of last year and haven't gone yet this year. But if your looking to catch big fish and "possibly" set a new record that is the place to do it. They are probably the best place in the state for big bass but I am not sure the DNR counts them for Fish Ohio so they are not on the list.
  16. LOL you guys. Telling him he is asking to loose swimbaits with 12# floro then recommending braid... If your really asking about 1-3 oz I personally use 12 or 15# CXX in that range. Also you don't "need" a 300 size reel to throw a 3 oz bait. Sorry but that is just nonsense really. It is nice to have a bigger reel as they are generally heavier gearing, hold more line and of a heavier # and that will give you more distance, they also usually come in a 5 something ratio for more cranking power. You can use a standard low profile but it might take a beating a lot quicker and wont cast quite as far but you will be alright. Throw on some 15# line such as P-Line CXX, Izorline XXX, Big Game, Mean Green, Trilene XL. Those are all plenty strong and will do fine. If your worried about it bump it up to 17# then.

The spro baits are not even the same class of baits as they are multi jointed baits. A gyron only same with musky glides like the wide glide as they are basically a sinking spook.
  18. That Gander Mtn bag isn't bad. It actually holds 7 3700 boxes but it's $80. I am not sure if there is a backpack that actually holds more then 4 3700 boxes. I think I might have seen like every tackle bag ever looking. Well maybe some Wild River ones do or other bags that are like $150 or more. But I did find the Okeechobee Fats Deluxe and o boy. It is crazy cheap and not only does it hold 8 3700 it also comes with them. They are cheap ones but its still nice to get them with the bag. Every review I have seen on it says they had it for years and it's a tank has never ripped and they love it.

They are mehh to me. They catch fish no doubt but the cast like total garbage and I would not really classify them as a glide like the are labeled. They don't really glide for crap and have a super tight swim pattern. Also they sink super slow and that is a good thing but then it isn't. I would like them better if they got down a bit quicker and if you try to add weight to them it throws them all off. I have caught a couple in the 4-5 range but I never fish them any more. I also sand the joints down just a touch to get a bit wider swim.
  20. Ya but some of those boxes need that extra height. I wouldn't be able to change them all out. I want to get rid of that bag anyways for a backpack style. The divider on both sides pockets is ripped and just over the weekend the clear pocket on the lid of the main pocket ripped all the way down the side. It just got wasted super quick and I only picked it up at almost the end of the year.
  21. There with out a doubt is a correlation between the reel size and rod size as far as twist goes. I had a problem on a brand new rod and reel. It was all over within 15 minutes of fishing and I couldn't stop it from casting out knots no matter what I did. Someone on here said something about the diameter of the spool and the first eye on the rod but I am not sure the specifics. I put the exact same reel on just in a different size and fished that combo all year and never once had a problem or even removed any twist that might of built up.
  22. You should be into taking super glue with you or something. It is a tiny bottle that only costs a couple dollars and can make a huge difference. Personally I am not into having to constantly slide my trailer back up all day long. I will find room for that little bottle somehow and take the 10 seconds to add a drop of glue.
  23. You are just casting way to hard. I do the same thing myself and sometimes get a few loops and a occasional minor backlash but so does everyone. Really just this year I have backed my brakes off and for most things it is so much better to I think. All the reels that I use on a regular basis with centrifugal braking are Lews. All of them are either a Tourney or Tourney Pro. I always ran 2 pins on those reels and they cast pretty much anything "within reason" with 0 tension and 0 mags. You don't even have to thumb the spool again till the end usually. Now they are set to only 1 pin and I can cast just as far or farther then I did with 2 pins with just a little flick. `It seems cool to be whipping every cast no matter what the lure like KVD and hearing the reel scream but those brakes push so hard when you do that to try and slow it down. If you have say 4 out of 6 brakes on you can get the same distance and a lot smoother with 2 on by casting half as hard or actually less.
  24. This is the bag I am using but it is poorly sewn together and had started to rip. I also need something bigger but want a backpack style. The main compartment came with 4 3750's but I really would like more.
  25. Dropping some knowledge right there.
