  1. I am not sure were this saying originated from but I think it might be the great lakes. I also don't really think it applies to bass so much. It might be more of a perch or walleye type thing. All the people I have heard it from and ones who fish way out on the lake for diner.
  2. I actually just picked one of those up the other day. It is the 80 I think and it seemed small and light so I figured it might be difficult to cast on casting gear even with light line. The bombs out there at 3/8 oz and the propellers and super high quality and spin forever. I haven't actually really fished it yet though. I just put it on to make a few casts and check it out.
  3. I am not sure what kinda of grass or slime you have or even what kind of lure your using but... You can put a bead on your line with a bobber stop behind it up from your lure a bit and it might help you. I do it all the time when fishing hudds on the bottom. It will deflect away the stuff you run into and keep it off your bait. It works wonders for keeping the slime off the nose of your baits.
  4. It probably doesn't matter if you think you have bad form or how in shape you might be. Any repetitive movement will take a toll on you. Spending all day doing one thing over and over with basically the same repetitive movement is going to cause some kind of problem eventually. There has been times when the spook bite is super hot and it is literally that gets thrown all day long and for day after day and It will start to tear up my wrist. I couldn't even guess how many times I snap my wrist in a day but it's a crazy number I am sure. I already have a beat up wrist from swinging a framing hammer all day when I younger.
  5. They kinda suck. I mean they catch fish but I was not that impressed. I really wanted to try them and my store finally got them. They are kinda expensive and you dont get a lot. They have terribly durabilty and don't glide as well as I hoped. It was also kinda weird trying to rig it so it would slide good. You could pretty much just stick a little nailweight or something in the end of a senko and get the same thing. No kidding. You and everyone else it seems. Take a number I think they might be a while. I want to try the imakatsu bacuraston huddle swimmers. I actually just found them today and they look awesome.
  6. Big hammers or Basstrix and for pre rigged river 2 seas rig walker
  7. I have caught doubles a bunch of times on the double fluke rig but that.s about it. A couple years ago though I was fishing a KVD 2.5 I think oddly enough. But I had a bluegill swipe at it or maybe I ran into it. but anyways it got foul hooked on the side and then a bass instantly came out and tried grabbing the bluegill. I watched it all happen after I hooked the bluegill. The water was pretty clear and it was only a couple feet below the surface. You could see the flash from when I hooked the bluegill then the flash from the bass darting out after it. I caught them both on the same treble hook also.
  8. Lots of big swimbaits. Who really knows how "rare" they actually are though. There is tons of them all out there it is just that once people have them they usually don't part with it. There is not enough supply to equal the demand on some baits.

Those are not speed clips there just a normal style snap. I have some of those in a few different sizes and they seemed ok. I liked them a lot more when I first started using them. There is a few issues with them though. The heavier sizes is to big to fit through the eye on a lot of things or if you do get it through its in there tight and doesn't move freely. Also a few times I have looked at my bait and it somehow started to come off and would be in between the 2 layers. are probably the best snap + swivel I have ever used. They are high quality swivels for sure but the spro stuff is expensive. The split snaps are $5 for only 8. There is also these neat little snaps I have that are like a 3/4 circle type thing. You pull it over the eye on like crankbaits and stuff and it snaps down around it. I don't remember who makes them but there tiny and are super secure on the lure. I don't find the norman speed clips to be all that secure. You can get some nice duolocks that are for sure not going to open up or come off. Some of mine you can't even hardly open it up with your fingers. You need to squeeze them with a pair of needle nose.
  10. Ya that is not even close to being equal. I catch way more if I am on a boat. You can reach any spot. Any place you are catching fish from the bank I can do the same on a boat. Plus I can go all the places you cant.
  11. I it actually is copoly after looking it up. I always thought original was mono. I think even TW lists it as being a mono.
  12. PF is just mono IIRC. I have used like all the "best" copolys out there. Now I just use primarily CXX on most of my setups. It has the least stretch of like any line I have used that is not braid. It is also the most sensitive because of how dense it is. Not to mention it might be one of the strongest lines available. Memory could be a issue but every line develops some kind of memory. Get your self some KVD line and lure and its no problem. Everyone should have a bottle of that regardless of what line they use. It is a total game changer. The first time you make a cast after using it you will be like wow.
  13. Well there is a tatula for $70 but its 5:4: and there is a BPS extreme for $40 that is 7:1. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/145431-daiwa-shimano-abu-and-bass-pro-rods-and-reels-fs/ I cant speak for the BPS reel but the Tatula is solid even used at $70. I don't think you will find a better reel for that price. Then you have money left for maybe like a Berkley Lightning or maybe like a Shimano Convergence or Tackle Warehouse has Team Diawa rods on sale for $60.
  14. I was meaning places online. There is for sure no store near me that would have them. You are in CA where you can actually go buy big expensive baits in person.
  15. So the new DEPS 175 came out yesterday I guess. The places that did actually have some all basically sold out on like 10-20 min. That is pretty crazy for a fishing lure. The 250's should be coming out very soon also but there is lists you can get on for those so you dont miss the release. I never would of guess it would be like that for a lure. Selling out in minutes like it is your favorite old school band on there farewell tour or something. I don't know what else to compare that to since that's all I can think of right now that sells out in minutes.
  16. I am left handed and reel with my right. I have always fished that way not matter what it is. It is the most comfortable and just makes sense when you think about it. Your dominant hand should be the one working the rod because that is where it is most important. I have never understood that whole switching when people go from casting to spinning. I never understood why people don't just use the same hand. My brother actually has only been fishing for about 3 years now and when he was first starting I told him to try to lean reeling with his right hand. He is right handed and reels left btw. I knew it would be somewhat of a issue later on trying to find reels. He did't not have the muscle memory of fishing in his brain and I was trying to help him out. Plus then he would be able to just pick up one of my rods and be totally fine but he didn't listen.
  17. As of right now mine would have to be a Diawa Pluton for the reel and a crazy custom rod.
  18. Ya that video was a bummer. I saw it when it went up. There was a post in Got'Em I think where guy lost a pair of 250's. I would say like $70 is the most I ever lost in 1 bait. If it was multiple baits then its over $100 in a day.
  19. Well I was just saying what I had heard. This is what Aaron Martens does on all his reels and he says you actually get better casting distance this way. Don't get all upset with me about it. You should talk to him and ask if he ever thought it through. I am also pretty sure most everyone here can scrounge up some old braid to use for backing on reels. I also guess I was not clear enough about it .Yes you can/should use backing for braid but back your braid with more braid. I think I had said that though.
  20. From what I hear everyone does it wrong in regards to backing. The only lines you want backing on is mono copoly fluoro. Those you want to use braid for backing and for braid just run in straight or leave old braid on to back new braid.
  21. Straight shanks are not good for worms. It is more of a creature tube bait type thing. You can use one I suppose but your worm will be destroyed after almost every hook set. It is also difficult to skin hook them since generally your point will not run parallel with the plastic. I don't know what knot you personally tie for a straight shank but I would recommend a snell. There are a few other knots you can tie like for example a snell or a snell and if you don't like a snell knots then you could always tie a snell.
  22. A bottle will never break down. They do "break down" but only to a level. They breakdown to a ton of super tiny pieces and stay that way for well.. I guess ever. None of us will be around I can tell you that. The ocean is wrecked with plastic everywhere and there is so much you cant see because it has broken down to that tiny level. If have never heard of it. Look up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. There is many of them actually but that one is the biggest I believe. They catch fish and when they open them up and look they all have these piece of microplastic in there stomachs. It is everywhere and so small you cant see it. Its bad news
