  1. St.Croix Avid 6'9" ML/XF - $180. Probably one of the best rods out there for what you want to do.
  2. Yo-Zuri Hybrid review. Info- Sizes used – 8, 10, 12, 15 Intro- Yo-Zuri hybrid is a line that’s very popular here on the Bass Resource boards. Now I’ve been here for a while, and sat here for far too long to have not tried it. I’ve recently acquired some varying line sizes for my personal fishing pleasure. I’ve been using Yo-Zuri very heavily for the past 2 months, and occasionally using mono and fluorocarbon lines for comparisons sake. Want to know what I thought? Price- First off, let me start off by saying the price on this product is superb. When you can buy 600 yds. for $13-20, that’s a deal you’ll never see with a Premium fluorocarbon, considering they run about $20 for 200 yds. For the price, it’s very easy to pick this line for an upgrade over mono, or a cheaper alternative for fluorocarbon lines. Memory- When I first peeled a few yards off of the spools, I could tell the memory on this line would not be a huge issue. However, when jumping from 12 to 15 lb. test, I felt there was a large jump in the memory of the product. I am very wary of going any higher than 15 lb., even with a nice dose of KVD L&L, the memory on the 15 lb. was just too much for my tastes, and many premium fluorocarbon lines have equal or less memory than this. But this is where it gets better folks, 12 lbs. and below are some very nice handling lines. Nice and supple, with relatively low memory compared to fluorocarbon lines. And once you put a couple sprays of KVD L&L on, the line really shines and comes to life. Knot Strength- Not much to say about it, except that I’ve never had a knot fail on me. And until I do, I can’t really rate a product on knot strength. I think it’s more about how good you are at tying knots, and the type of knot used. However, I used the Uni knot and snell exclusively. Strength/Diameter- If you want probably the best strength-to-diameter line out there (Other than Superlines), Yo-Zuri really takes the cake. The 12# line breaks at a whopping 19.5 lbs. on average, which is really just incredible. And lets not forget this is with a relatively average line diameter per the lines rated strength of 12 lb. Sensitivity- While this line is not a 100% fluoro, this line isn’t amazing in sensitivity, but I did not expect it to be other-worldly. When fishing bottom contact techniques, I could feel difference in bottom contour, and decipher cover; however it did take some feel and was not an instant recognition like I feel with a good Fluoro. But is it close? Yes. I thought the sensitivity was actually better than I thought it would be, considering its price tag. If you don’t want to spend $20 for a spool of line, this is your answer. Lasting- Other than a few snags and hang-ups, I have had no need to change line on any of my reels. However, a few months isn’t all that much and I will see based on how it holds up, but so far, my expectations are very high. Final thoughts- I really enjoyed fishing this line in the various sizes, and I was pleasantly surprised by how this line performed. The memory was very respectable in the sizes under 15 lb., and the sensitivity was much more than I expected for the price tag of this line. However, for bottom contact techniques, I’ll still take a 100% fluoro line. What will I continue to use this line for? I really like it for moving baits, where a mono is traditionally used, but you want to use a fluoro for added depth and sensitivity. I found that for crank baits I really enjoyed using the 10# and the 12# for spinner baits. However, if you care about line sinking with top water, this line does. But I could care less If my line sinks on top water. Gives it a little different action Final Rating 8.5/10 – a BASSclary Writer’s Pick The views expressed in this review are solely those of Collin Clary’s (BASSclary) and may or may not reflect those of BassResource staff and/or members.
  3. Not to bash you, but I dont think that dealer knows what they're talking about. The amber and copper lenses are different colors. The Amber doesn't have a copper base either to make it lighter, because the copper is actually darker. You can get Amber or Copper in Polymer, but only Copper in glass. That's what they use for their mirrored glass lenses in Green Mirror. I'm not saying Amber is a bad lense. Amber is very nice in mid-high to mid-low low light. They just arent the same, nor is the Amber a copper based hybrid. Sorry if my post sounded rude in any way just wanted to inform.

How to make a basic taco godly. Step 1: Make Taco Step 2: Crumple up doritos and sprinkle on top. Step 3: Enjoy.
  5. The MH/F St.Croix Avid is probably, IMO, without a doubt THE BEST multi-purpose do-it-all rod out there. They do everything well, and nothing bad.
  6. I will say, I dont go out fishing shopping, and come back empty handed. I always leave with something, even if it is just on pack of hooks, or a crankbait.
  7. If you go with a Croix, I'd say atleast go to the Premiers where they have crankbait rods specifically.
  8. Yes, you essentially need backing, or else your spool will slip. The braid is so smooth and there's no stretch, than when pressure is put on the line, without backing, the line will just slip around the spool basically making reeling pointless. What kind is best? Whatever is cheapest. I use a bulk spool of Big Game 15#. I think I bought 1000 yds for like 7$ at Wal-mart. Also, when you splice the lines, the alberto knot is the smallest, thinnest, best lying knot out there IMO. Heres a link on how to tie it. http://www.stripersonline.com/a/albertos-knot It seems a little agressive at first, but I promise its actually not, and fairly easy to tie after the third time.
  9. Oakley's look cool, but so do some Costas. And Costas lenses are faaarrrrr superior to that of any others. If you want something a little more mainstream, look at Smith's sunglasses. Those are very nice lenses as well, right up under Costa. Maui Jims are nice also, but they just dont have frames I like.
  10. The Bucoos are very nice, and generally have that slow action thats nice for cranks.
  11. FYI, look up the UNI knot. It is literally the most simple knot to tie, extremely easy, and I can tie it in about 10 seconds perfectly. I can also proudly say, I've never had ANY line fail with this knot. Even braid, which is prone to slipping, has never came undone, or broken at the knot. It's literally the only know I tie, except for when I snell my hooks, which I also recommend.
  12. That doesn't make sense. You can either get amber in plastic, or copper in glass. You cant have both.
  13. Your gonna want the green mirror 580 g. Its whats recommended by them, and you'll see clearly why. They are superb lenses, I love mine
  14. I do not match my gear by name, however I do like to play designer and match them by color If I can.
  15. Yup. Let's just not have a repeat of that last game!
  16. I've absolutely never missed a fish due to a hook. Therefore, I like Gamakatsu, Owner, Mustad, and Trokar. All the hooks i've tried. However I do find myself going for the Mustads alot. i just like em.
  17. You may not need more power to fight the size of fish, but power is useful in thicker cover. If your using frogs, your probably in thick cover. You'r going to want a MH at the very least, more common a H, so when the bass takes your frog and gets burried in the grass, its much easier to pull them out insteasd of trying to horse them out with a noodle.
  18. A more exact price range will help tremendously. A middle price range to some could be $100 or $300.

Hmmm, going barefoot, esp when it rains

  21. Depends on what series of Dobyns your talking about. Im assuming you are talking about the Saavy series. IMO, Get the Powell over the Saavy series. The Powell rod has a nice tip with plenty of backbone, and the components aren't as cheap. They balance very well too. Also, if your going to use it for anything besides frogs, the Powells are going to be a bit more sensitive too. The big thing with the Saavy series is its all about balance. The balance on them is fantastic, but the cork is very cheap, and i'm not a fan of the guides. However, if you step up to a Champion vs. a Powell, the Champion will be the better rod.
  22. pull the line off and respool pulling through a wet rag. Repeat if necessary
  23. Also wondering, what would be a quote on a 7' MH/XF with a MHX blank? Nothing special, just alconites, fuji acs, cork split grip, and standard guide wraps with maybe some electric blue trim?
  24. They do offer gray lenses with matte black frames, only the Costa logo in shiny I believe. I dont know if I would trust a fishing/outdoors based sunglass for anything military, even if they were certified though. Regardless, you'll love the oakleys. I love mine, and am thinking about another pair because of how light they are, and they're style.
  25. Oh I didn't even try to stay up for that. After the first OT I went to bed. And to be honest, Holtby is doing great, and i've been suprised he has so far, knock on wood.
