  1. Will Daiwa not warranty a Wal-mart exclusive?
  2. Actually now that I think of it, I only use a skirt about 65% of the time. For 5$ for two, I think they're definately happy with their prices. Im scared to lose mine!
  3. Actually, I'm sort of glad to see the good ole' Mag-V in this one. I believe all of Daiwas finesse casters have V instead of Z because a smooth linear brake will be better than the top speed braking of the Z. Makes me think that Daiwa has a finesse reel at a price point that will rival that of the 50E's.
  4. Skirt. I think it looks cool, but also helps get the whole package through cover a smidge easier, especially after you get some scent on it.
  5. Was scrolling through TW and noticed this reel. Just going over the limited specs before ICAST, this think looks like the absolute brain child of a Curado E and a Lews SS. It appears they took the functionality and design on the Lews, and perhaps the great castability of the Curado E series. I'm basing that second statement on the fact its noted the spool will be 7075 aluminum. That doesnt seem like much, but coming from the lacrosse world that is a very popular metal for its strength to weight ratio. That should equate to a really light spool. Thumbs up! (I also believe that SHIMANO uses 7075 as well for Curado spools.) But for only 140, it looks like Daiwa might actually get some footing in the 150 dollar area of the market, and it looks like it could be killer. I cant wait for Icast to see some more about it. Let the speculation begin
  6. Well, I was strolling through the fishing section at Walmart and noticed a snazzy lookin' Daiwa called the Jupiter. It felt really nice and balanced in hand, and the components seemed great for only $70. Was wondering if anybody has used one? I'm thinking about picking up a 7' MH for some lighter texas rigs, sniper spinnerbaits, and maybe some finesse jigs. The tip had a really nice flex to it, and there was definately some good backbone in there. I was thinking about picking on up along with another budget reel from walmart, which I would normally probably never do, but money is extremely tight with bills for me. $250 for insurance, gas, and phone. I swear i'm over-worked and underpaid. End of that mini-rant though. But anyways I was thinking of getting that, paired with maybe a Caenan, Kinetic, or something else around the 100 dollar range. However I was also looking at the Daiwa T-Rods. There a few bucks more and the specs are basically the same, except for color and more availability. My dad has a medium spinning rod, which I have used, and was decent for the price. Has anyone used both and can compare? But anyways, the Jupiters feel really good in hand, and I almost can't say no for 70$. But I want some opinion from the #1 site I visit. Also, my Wal-Mart carries the Lew's that goes for 70 I think. Is it worth anything? I new everybody raves about the 100 and above ones, but havent heard much on the bottom reel. I figure i'll pair it with some 8# flouro. Man, I wish Powells were only $70, I'd have just about each one. Oh and wait, does anyone know if the Carbonlite reels are better? Thanks!
  7. BPS Pro Qualifier, BPS carbonlite, Shimano Citica, Lews Speed Spool, there are quite a lot of options in that price range. The Daiwa Lexa also looks promising as a new reel by daiwa filling in the void of their market with budget reels.
  8. I really liked my Bucoo when I had one. I thought head to head with the Veritas, the Bucoo was more of a pleasure to fish, but sensitivity and lightness had to go with the Veritas. Either one will be fine. However, I thought that Falcons actions were a bit on the slower side
  9. Hearing you attack Lew's then praise the almighty Shimano got old after the 3rd thread. You've succesfully turned a thread asking for help with a reel problem into a thread about parts availability and a brand war.
  10. Its a good line, but not for flipping and pitching IMO. Mono is just too stretchy. I'd stick with a braid for flipping and pitching. It seems expensive but braid just lasts so long its a good investment
  11. In an ideal world I would like a 6'3" m/xf rod for topwater, but those are usually only available in more expensive rods >150. I would look for a 6'6" M/XF or M/F rod within your price range
  12. I advise you get a new rod. That bad eyelet will chew up any and every line out there. But for line, for all around use i'd say Sufix Elite 8# mono.
  13. I'd wait for the Pro Qualifier to go on sale, then pair it up with a MH/F casting rod that feels good to you. Spend as much as you can on the rod, because you will really notice the difference in quality for your money from lower end to budget equipment. I'd say shoot for 70-100 on a rod and try and squeeze out 80-100 for the reel. If you go cheaper on the reel it will really ruin the baitcasting experience if you are new to them. The BPS/Cabelas/Gander house brand rods are pretty good for what you pay, so i'd look along those lines. Depending on cover, you may want to opt for a M/F since your wacky rigging and you dont want the hook ripped out of the senko.
  14. What line are you using? That could very well be the culprit if its a different line.
  15. I don't have kids, but I was spanked as a child. I have no problem with that and when I have kids a guarantee they will get a spanking too. I think far too many people are concerned over child-abuse, which is food, but they dont know the line between discipline and abuse.
  16. I feel what you mean. My theory is Gammies feels sharper to touch because of the different style points. Gammies and other hooks etc just have needle point hooks, so it feels sharper, but trokars have the cutting point hook, so it doesnt feel as sharp. I also think the cutting point hooks last a little longer because it cuts through instead of just stabbing through. After about ten fish my Gammies get a little rolled.
  17. I just got my second package today. 4/0 EWG worm hooks. Woot!
  18. Powells are my choice in rods. THey're very light and crisp, and for only 140 for 7' and under, its really hard to beat them.
  19. Yup. In open water around rocks its hard to beat a high quality flourocarbon. I like to use Seagaur's lines, so I'd look for some 15# AbrazX.
  20. I have a small addictions to WaWa's subs. I dont know how far the wawa chain goes, but its mostly here in VA.
  21. Thats not so. In fact, I find most casting reels and spinning reels have about the same drag, but of course there are always outliers.
