  1. I highly disagree with LMG about buying a decent reel, and just getting a $50 rod. If your just starting out, a Citica will be one of the best reels to get. I know my Gander Mountain still has the E series for like, $80. But dont skimp on your rod just to get a better reel. The Carbonlite is a fine choice and a very good rod for its price point, and I would highly recommend it. Another good rod is the Powell Diesel. Daiwa also makes a T-Series rod which is far better than any SHIMANO in it's price range. Gander Mountain also has very good house brand rods, which I also like. Your rod is whats going to catch your fish, the reel just brings them in and presents your lure. It's all about balance. I would recommend about $80 on your reels, and $80 on your rod.
  2. Use a lighter, more balanced rod. Also, try working your bait tip down.
  3. Both crankbaits can be used on a MH/moderate rod, worms/spinnerbaits/jigs on a MH/F, and a M/XF for topwaters and finesse. Do you have a preference for casting or spinning gear? Do you have price ranges for how much you want to spend? We can recommend some great gear for you depending on your price ranges for your combos.
  4. You want to punch for bluegills do ya? You're gonna want an UL rod, some 1/32 oz tungsten bullet weights, some mini skirts, and a itty bitty grub. Go with the smallest hooks you can find. I also recommend 2# line to get it through the weight and hook eye. PItch it out there, let it sink, then just barely move the rod tip. Repeat until you catch some sandwhich size fish.
  5. A review I made for Costa Del mar sunglasses, to help inform anybody who is either looking at, or considering buying Costas, or people looking to spend in investment for on, and off the water. Make sure to watch in HD. Hope you enjoy the Video! EDIT: Sorry the focus is terrible, the focus doesn't adjust so, bleh.
  6. Never heard of 'em. I'll give em a look next time I go tackle shopping.
  7. That was like, 90% of those arrests, haha.
  8. Beautiful photos Chris. More than what I would expect from Nat. Geo. Nature in it's finest right there.
  9. Rage craws, grubs, swimbaits. Anything that imitates a craw or baitfish really.
  10. Yup. Look at my review I did of them, they should be on this or the next page.
  11. J beat me to it, when I was reading your post I was thinking a jig rig. They've been deadly for me with rage craws (small ponds) and flukes (rivers, larger lakes)
  12. In my experience. Dark bass = shallow/clear water. Light bass = deep/dirty water. Very green bass = grass/vegetation browner bass = lots of wood/ other brown structure. Their color seems to adapt to their surroundings.
  13. How do you know if you like french fries, when you use ketchup/mustard/ranch? How do you know if you like fish if you cook it with butter, lemon, and pepper? Its just a seasoning. Just because I put some sauce on doesn't mean I cant taste the fish. I like to put honey mustard on a lot of stuff. I like it. I also like Mako Shark. I think the honey mustard compliments the shark very well. The key is just a drizzle on honey mustard. I'm not soaking the fish in the stuff.
  14. Yup. Hybrid is awesome stuff. I use 6# on my 50E. Strong stuff. And unless your going like 20#, 600 yds costs less than $20
  15. If I only had $50 I would go to gander mountain and look at their house brand combos. My dad used them for years before he upgrade and they've lasted, and are really nice for the price you pay.
  16. I believe RW was referring to the nature of an ugly stick setting the hook with single hook lures. Ugly sticks are pretty whippy, being a blend of graphite and fiberglass. It will absorb alot of your hookset, which isn't so bueno with with single hooks, but pretty good for treble hooks. By going to a graphite rod, M/F, you will see a better hook up ratio because It wont be whippy like an ugly stick. I use M and ML rods all the time, and dont have any troubles setting the hook.
  17. I agree. My favorite fish to eat is Mako Shark, specifically nuggets that are fried up with some honey mustard drizzle . (Insert Homer drool noise here)
  18. 5.2:1is pretty fast for spinning reels. I think you confused the raio with casting reels, where 5.2:1 is pretty slow
  19. Daiwa Lexa. Looks like Daiwa finally gave us an option in the 150 range that could compete with the beloved Curado E
  20. I dont know if I can swing a custom rod built for me, my absolute max is 150, I cant spend any more than that. And If I got a custom for that price, I think the blank wouldn't be so hot.
  21. I looked at that, but i'm not very sure about the MF action it.
  22. Thats kind of odd. It could very well be both, or something else. Regardless I'd send it to Mike at DVT, you get a 10% discount for being a member, and you'll be extremely satisified.
  23. ...but it was dink city, LOL. Went to a 3 acre pond for some afternoon fishing with my old man. After sitting in the car for an hour waiting for some isolated storms to blow through, we headed out. My first choice was a 1/8 oz texas rigged Rage Craw (Summer Craw I believe) on a 2/0 Trokar. The bass seemed to be holding really tight to cover in about 2 feet of water, but we saw some schools of catfish, which was wierd because I thought it would be the other way around. Anyways, I was pitching this thing to anywhere I thought might hold a fish. 2 dinks, and one solid 1.5, but they all looked the same so I cant differentiate pictures, or if I even took a picture of each one. All I know is, there is a bundle of photos. No big girls, or average girls, but these little guys fought like the Irish! I also felt kinda bad for my dad, he didnt catch any, but I felt worse when I basically poached his fish. We were fishing a spot, and he moved down about 100 ft to fish there. After he worked it for about 20 minutes I walked over to give it a try. I basically said, "I bet there is a fish hanging out under that tree branch floating there. My first pitch to it a 1.5 slammed it on the fall, the biggest of the day. But anyways, hope you enjoy the pictures! I'll be hitting this pond again looking for some big girls with big baits! And an aw of the day, (apparently her tongue is too big for her mouth!)
  24. Using the Alberto knot different diameters are fine
