  3. Considering the obvious what everyone has already said.. If we start out shallow its always a Scum Frog. If we start deep usually it's a spook, spinnerbait, crank. Mike
  4. Super flukes is all I use now, never had much luck with jr's. Watermelon seed and baby bass do it for me. Mike
  5. H/F Falcon "Carolina Lizard Dragger" 7.1:1 Pro Qualifier w/30# PP Scum or Koppers frogs Mike
  6. Yeah Buddy!! Thinking the same thing. Mike
  7. Thank's Fellas I figured the line weight would increase as the rod lost a little flex. Being my dedicated jig rod I was hoping sensitivity wouldn't be compromised. I feel better. Thanks again Mike
  8. If I did which I don't, give me some Smokey, Temps, 4 Tops etc. And any song about cars or street racing.....Little GTO, 409 etc. Yeah, Yeah I know Im an old guy. But back in the sixties, that was it! Mike
  9. Agree... Because of its greater sensitivity I Invisex on my jig and plastic rods, Yo Zuri for all reaction apps. Mike
  10. Good Morning Last night while putzin around, I inadvertently broke about 2" off the tip of my jig rod (Allstar ASR) If I have a new tip installed it looks like a guide will have to be moved also to bring the spacing more in line. My question: How much of an affect would the loss of 2" off the tip, and a repositioning of the 2nd guide, have on the overall sensitivity of the blank? Thanks Mike
  11. Shakey and Wacky I use a m/xf spinning rod. Never did fish a drop shot yet. Hoping someone who's going on the Roadtrip will take me under his wing. Mike
  12. Just putsin around I bring 2.. On a boat in a tourn or not 6 b/c and 1 spinning Mike
  13. I just love my new Phenix X11. It's a 7' 0'' composite rod which loads like crazy, and balance's great with a Curado I, or even the heavier PQ. It has the backbone for anything you'll run into. It's rated at 3 oz on the high side and they advertise it as a deep crank rod but I use it for sq bill's, and other shallow to mid depth water. The X13 has the same ratings but it's a 7' 6" if you want that. The X9 and X10 also feel great but haven't used them. Mike
  14. I want to say it was on a green pepper Scum frog on a Powell "Caolina Lizard Dragger" rod. 7.1 PQ with 30# PP only because I always start with that set up. Mike
  15. Good for you, I'm thinking about moving up too. The best advise I can give that hasn't already been given is to not forget what you already know, and not lose any confidence you have in your abilities when things dont go as planned. Since you already enter into state competition, you know that conditions will change. Dont depend on the boater to put you on fish. If he's catching, you know they're there and just because he's hooking up from the front doesn't mean he cleaned everything out before you get a chance. To me fishing from the back seat is more challenging, which also makes it more important to make the right adjustment at the right time. Sometimes you will and sometimes you won't. Of course you already know everything I just said. Sometimes we just need to be reminded, especially at that level. At least I do. You may not control where you're going, but you do control you. Relax, think it through, and have fun. Good Luck Mike
  16. If I get on that hammock first, you'll be calling me more than just Mike. Mike
  17. I only use mag brake reels for pitching and / or flipping. Cent/mag brake reels only for distance casting. For flippin or pitchin I just loosen the cast control knob. Mike
  18. Tharp Van Dam Horton Mike
  19. Jeannie and I will be there hopefully by late afternoon early evening. Just give us something to do..We'd be happy to help out in any way we can. Mike
  20. Hey Yoise Guise I got me one of dem too!! (Thats the So Side of Chicago comin out, Sorry I wanted one for cranking, and gave serious thought about getting the 5.5:1 which has 23" of ipt but thought that would be to slow as we dont have a lot of deep cranking water down here. So I got the 6.3:1, 26" ipt instead, thinking it would alright for the sq bill, shallow crank, jerk, and trap use that I wanted it for. Sure hope I didnt screw up... I guess I can always that it back. We'll see Mike
  21. Thats the way to run a business! Mike
