  1. any measurements? I'd say 4#. You could definitely hold it to look like 6# though
  2. I like the zoom ultravibe speed craw
  3. I use the Buckeye football mop in "dragging" situations with great success. I always use a trailer. For this jig I use the rage craw (the length works well with the long skirt) in watermelon red on most occasions.
  4. what is the "+10% gift card" thing on TW referred to earlier. I just thought it was 10% off
  5. If you're pitchin, skippin, or flippin it will be best to learn to cast right or reel right... you'll miss less fish. I am a righty (luckily have a lot of practice spinning with the left hand) and plan to buy a lefty casting reel soon just for these situations. I have the mojo rod and it is a good crank action, but those guides are cheap. Don't be disappointed if you have a hard time with light baits or don't get a lot of distance with heavier baits (compared to better guides). For cranking you made the right choice, but when you get your flippin stick consider reeling righty even if its uncomfortable at first.
  6. Good question as my lake is now turning over and I haven't fished since the majority of the lake has started getting mucky. My game plan is going to be to find some places that have cleaner water/water flow in shallower water and pitch tight into cover with various baits starting with 1/4 oz t-rigged watermelon/red rage craw and then experimenting from there. I have also had a lot of success swimming that same offering in the same areas recently!
  7. I ended up with the M fast, because I felt it would be a little more versatile. Have to say that I believe the softer tip lets me feel and dance the jig head a little better and give it a better dance up and over cover. I am getting bit twice as much as I did with my crucial MH fast because of this extra action IMO. Loving this rod/reel combo so far.
  8. I never wanted to give up, but I have definitely had the type of day you describe. Now though with the changing weather and experience of a whole summer, things have finally started to click for me. Just give it some time and keep on searching, learning, and fishing. It has worked for me and I very much look forward to getting better and better! Stay positive, don't give up.
  9. This is def. happenning now as I already put a sahara on my crucial~
  10. Thanks for the input, but I've already narrowed it down to the Shimano Cumara 7' 2" now I just need to narrow it down to fast or xfast. Shimano reccomends the fast for the shakey. I'm leaning that way. My reasons are that I am looking for ultra light and sensitive at a good value and I have already had good customer support with the shimano over the counter program. The rod also "matches" my Ci4
  11. Cumara... Fast or extra fast?
  12. Thanks everyone! The shakey head bite is hot right now and the dobyns or cumara are sounding like winners. The crucial is not so bad now in the sensitivity dept after switching to braid with fluoro leader, but... it is still heavy. It may last me the rest of this year, but man is a lighter rod sounding nice right now after tossing the spot remover for 6 hours straight yesterday ;D
  13. I have a Shimano Stadic Cl4 2500 on a 6'6" Shimano Crucial med-hvy fast action rod and mostly use it for shakey head fishing. I also will occasionally tie on a drop shot as this is my only spinning outfit for now. The rod is way heavy and clunky for this reel and I was looking for something that was more sensitive and light without breaking the bank (just bought an NRX casting and love it!). If I have to I'll save for the NRX shakey head rig, but just wandering if you have any recommendations that may be a little less dough and perform almost as well.
  14. My new Steez should be here tomorrow as should my Tatsu! Looking forward to putting it to the test! of course after I go through a break in spool on the steez to make sure I can cast it ok before I birdsnest a $25 spool :
  15. After a recommedation in my previous post I have decided to take my boat with us and fish Lake Toho and John's Lake if we get the time (I usually find time to fish, we do have a conference to attend though!) Any advice is appreciated. Obviously we have to get some licenses, but do we have to do anything to our boat (registered in SC and up to Code here) are there any laws I should be aware of that are a little different in Fl waterways?
  16. Okay... ended up going with Steez 100SHA (on order locally) and Seguar Tatsu 15# (i'm trusting you RW). May get it dialed in with some cheap mono before I go kinking up a $25 spool of line! I can't wait to get it all in. Should have some pics for y'all by next weekend! I cannot wait.
  17. cx is bad about "snapping" on hook set for me... I like CXX when it comes to baitcasters.
  18. guess I better spend the rest of my days on the lake! I'm going fishing.
