My current setup sucks... is this one good?
Ugly stiks are pretty hard to break. Good choice IMO. Okuma is known for quality reels, so again, good choice. I would suggest getting some power pro braid if you're going to be fishing frogs though. Stuff is great for flipping/pitching and fishing in heavy cover.

When will you be there next? Would you mind showing me around the lake if you have an extra spot in your boat?

Are those bass?
If it's bass feeding, the water will boil, not unlike the way a large spitting popper spits - on a larger scale of course.

Thanks for the tips! I will try this on my next trip there. Today, I got there at around 8:30 AM, but had to row back at around 9:30 due to the incoming storm.

*UPDATE*Prayers for my friend needed
Has he looked into immunotherapy? There are lots of good alternative(herbal) therapies to help with his low WBC caused by the chemo. I believe in it because it's what's been keeping my dad alive despite him being diagnosed with stage IV duodenal/pancreatic cancer 20 months ago and being told that he had 3 months to live. Currently, he's progressed into Stage IV adenocarcinoma with tumors in his liver, guts, and brain. He's had tumors taken out of his cerebellum twice now, and has gone through radiosurgery to kill off the other tumors in his head. Surprisingly, he's still kickin', and still getting around, driving, shopping, doing what he likes, etc. His secret? Immunotherapy. It's unlikely to cure ya, but it sure as hell will keep you healthy and alive longer. *EDIT*- When I say Immunotherapy, I'm only talking about the aspect of it dedicated to boosting the patient's immune system, and not stimulating their immune systems to actually target cancer cells. I have no experience whatsoever with the latter.

East of Champaign is Homer Lake. It's close to I-74. I-74 also runs through Kickapoo State Park, which has lots of ponds. I hear they have bass there, and also stock trout during spring. There's always Lake Vermilion in Danville. Clinton Lake is right off of 74 as well.

Help Needed and Appreciated
Hi all, Tomorrow, I am going on a trip to Evergreen Lake in Illinois. It's a decent 900 acre-ish lake that supposedly has a lot of fish, but it will be my first time there. I'm not a great angler, and will be on a rowboat tomorrow. I looked over the topo map and a google satellite map of the lake, and have marked the map regarding where to throw what baits. Could you guys give me some input as to whether my plan has any chance of working? Perhaps correct me and give me a better plan for the day? Here's my marked-up map. The link to the topo is here: http://www.mcleancountyil.gov/Parks/pdf/lakemap.pdf Much appreciated guys.

Accident on the water
You mean you don't bring along a life jacket when you're in a bass boat? Nope, usually just one of those dinky around-the-neck nylon bags filled with foam boards. I might look into getting a full-on around-the-body life jackets with the multiple straps and everything now.

Anti fishing
Those PETA morons can be pretty annoying.

Accident on the water
Oh wow that sucks. This makes me want to bring along a lifejacket and hardhat the next time I get on a bass boat.

Well, catfish do tend to bite more during the evening...

Woot! The Pay off! And dare I say a PB...
You're correct that most 18 inchers are around 3. However, note that it's a LMB whose head/mouth looks surprisingly small. We've all been taught that underfed bass tend to look like their heads are bigger than their bodies. With this fish, its body looks much larger than its head, so it could just be an extremely healthy and well-fed 18 incher, in which case 5 lbs would be pretty believable.

Accident on the water
Oh wow - I thought those boats were REALLY hard to capsize...

Yo Zuri Wack-O's
Out of curiosity, how many of you have used this topwater lure before? I got one awhile back, but am unsure as to how to use it effectively. As of now I just cast and jerk my rod tip, finessing it like a spitting popper, but the product description says that it can be walked and used in other ways as well. Anyone have any insight on this?

killer football practice
Oops! I probably should clarify myself - don't drink too much water at once! You may feel like you're dying, but pace yourself, and take smaller but more frequent drinks if possible.

Fish kill questions
Fish usually do go belly up before they die. During a fish kill, you are more likely to see them floating belly up because a lot of them die in a short period of time, increasing your chances. When fish die of natural causes, it's usually not all at once, and a lot of them get eaten by scavengers before you get a chance to spot them.

Casio Cellphone
Just keep in mind that the phone isn't truly waterproof unless you plug up its headphone jacks and its various other ports with their respective rubber plugs.

killer football practice
Wait till you get to two-a-days and 20 up-downs for every guy that screws something up. ;D While it's important to hydrate, be sure not to drink too much water as that can actually CAUSE you to get cramps and the heaves.

so... im going to be a father.
I'm not so sure about the soap part... nowadays there's lots of extra crap they put in soap. As for babies - breastfeeding = healthy baby. Don't buy into that baby food crap they sell in jars - just overcook some veggies yourself, and voila! Introduce them to liquids before solids - as in give them veggie broth before mashed veggies in order to assess if they're ready or not. If they get the runs, it means you gotta wait a little longer. Try NOT to introduce tree nuts, peanuts, foods that people tend to have allergies to too early, as that can trigger an allergic reaction, which will make it so that they will be allergic to those foods for the rest of their lives. If you introduce these foods later on (2-3), it's less likely to happen as the kid's immune system won't be as hypersensitive and paranoid.

Small pond tips?
This may or may not help... Things I learned about ponds: 1. They are closer to shore than you think. 2. Spitting poppers are your friend when there's lots of pond scum and weeds in the water. I prefer to keep my rod tip up high (11 o' clock position), and lightly jerk them like I would finesse a shakey head. 3. Hot weather = go for reaction strikes and territory defending strikes. 4. Watch out for goose poo!

Any strict scary dads out there?
I remember my teenage years - 14 through 18 was when the hormones were pumping like crazy and I just couldn't keep certain dirty thoughts off my mind for long. It's tapered off a little bit now - the urges are a bit easier to control. Also, it's pretty much a given that the typical teenage guy has sex or sex-related thoughts more often than the typical teenage girl.

FIN NOR Powerlite Custom - Legit or Fake!?!?!
So I saw these rods on ebay, and was thinking about getting one for fishing heavy cover and horsing fish using a spinning reel. However, I've NEVER heard of a Powerlite CUSTOM - only the 2008 regular Powerlites. Do you guys think these might be knock-offs, or perhaps that this deal is a scam? Here's a LINK: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-FIN-NOR-POWERLITE-CUSTOM-7-MH-SPINNING-RODS-NEW-NR_W0QQitemZ250666259167QQcategoryZ36150QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp4340.m444QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DCRX%26its%3DC%252BS%26itu%3DSI%252BUA%252BLM%252BLA%26otn%3D12%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7115178061803263308

Need some advice taking fishing photos
Selecting the right ISO setting is also very important. I would google up a guide on how to adjust it to take better pictures according to how much sunlight you have.
