  1. Which ponds in Kickapoo would you recommend?
  2. We're gonna start to see even more shut-ins once this technology goes commercial...
  3. Just be careful not to fall in the water! http://pantagraph.com/news/local/article_bea8893e-8de4-11df-af9d-001cc4c03286.html http://www.news-gazette.com/news/health/health-care/2010-07-14/warning-signs-posted-around-clinton-lake-after-urbana-girl-gets-s
  4. Except that fires started with 151 are almost invisible.
  5. Check on your campus to see if there are any local rackets going on for used books. For instance, at my campus we have a site dedicated to buying and selling used books from and to other students. It's like a local craigslist for used textbooks - anyone can post and reply, and you can set a time and place to meet and exchange $ for books.
  6. Get a cooler with wheels, and fill it up with lake water.
  7. Grab em with your palm on the belly and your thumb in one gill and index finger in the other. I would imagine that they would stop fighting so much. Personally haven't tried this on bass yet, but it seems to work well for river carp. They struggle like mad, but seem to calm down after I grab em that way.
  8. Unfortunately, this is a guy who said he'd prefer to fish by himself when asked who he would fish with if he could pick anyone in the world past or present. ;D
  9. Shakespeare Ugly Stik MH 7' rod - 20-30 bucks at your local wal-mart. Abu Garcia BCX 5600 - around 50 bucks online.
  10. I have a spool of Sufix 40# and PowerPro 20#, and I feel like there's not a lot of difference between the two. I can easily cut the sufix line with a pocketknife. The same cannot be said for the power pro. I think it's because the strands on the sufix come apart a bit easier.
  11. I think you wanna use fluoro for the crank reel since fluoro sinks easily and is great for deeper crankbaits. For your jig/spinner/buzz rod, mono should be fine, although braid would be fine as well for its lack of stretch, which allows for better hooksets and sensitivity.
  12. http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Procaster_Casting_Reel_Navy/descpage-DP100HN.html http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Strikeforce_H_Casting_Reel/descpage-TSFHC.html http://www.***.com/Abu_Garcia_Black_Max_Casting_Reel/descpage-AGBM.html I recommend either the Procaster 100H or the Black Max. Magforce/MagTrax can come in handy sometimes. Daiwas and Abus are good quality reels. You may want to write the names down and look around to see if you can find a lower price for them, as my links are intended to provide info and not the lowest price. Except for the procaster 100h. I'm fairly sure tackle warehouse is the only one selling em for 40 bucks.
  13. Those redear slider shells are pretty hard to damage. I've dropped one onto gravel by mistake and the critter just walked away like nothing happened.
  14. You can thank the Canada Geese for that stuff.
  15. Get your 2 reels from *** - they have free shipping for orders over 50 bucks. As for rods, you will want a longer rod (around 7', no less than 6'6")with medium action for plastic worms and jigs. If you want, you could probably have it double as a spinnerbait rod if you get a 7' graphite pole with medium action and medium tip. For cranking and topwater, you'll want a fiberglass rod. If you fish primary large baits, you can get a 7'+. Otherwise stick to a 6' or 6'6" for accuracy when fishing cover and bumping topwaters against logs and stuff. Medium action with a medium light to medium tip. Keep in mind, this is what I would do, and may not be the best for another person, so just use this as a baseline. You may be a very accurate caster, in which case you can get longer rods for longer casts without worrying about accuracy. You may be very talented at feeling strikes, in which case you may feel more at home with Medium Heavy action for more power.
  16. The reason I suggested 2 rods 2 reels is because it's difficult for one rod to fish all different kinds of baits. If you want to spend all your money on one more expensive setup, you should be prepared to do much better with a few types of lures while not doing so well with others. For instance, a worm rod isn't exactly the best rod for spinnerbait. If you want one really good setup, I would recommend a Daiwa Megaforce Plus for a 100, and spend 30 on an ugly stik lite.
  17. Keep your eyes peeled for deals in the forum flea market as well. Just yesterday I snagged an Abu Garcia C801 for 40 bucks shipped to my door.
  18. http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Procaster_Casting_Reel_Navy/descpage-DP100HN.html Get 2 of these while they're cheap. Then find 2 rods. This way you can dedicate one rod to one set of lures and another to another set of lures.
  19. I only break out the mp3 player if I'm fishing for carp, catfish or walleye. I can get away with it because I usually just put some bait on the hooks, cast about 50 yds off the shore where I'm sitting, and sit back anyway. With bass, the fishing is a little more active - constantly changing lures, making my bait jiggle and swim, etc. so I don't listen to music when doing that because presenting the bait is entertainment enough for me.
  20. Speaking of pelicans... those things will eat just about anything that will or even *might* fit in their beaks!
  21. I know... But Goose Island is a legit brewing company in Chicago. They make 312, which is a great wheat beer.
  22. Tell him that you understand that what you did was wrong, and that you are sorry. Acknowledge the fact that you are young and impulsive, and that you made a bad decision. Then ask for forgiveness. Just keep in mind that it's not only about them, but about your GF and their hopes and wishes for her as well - so don't dwell TOO much on what you can do solely for the parents.
  23. Goose Island is my favorite brewery. ;D
  24. I forgot to mention - they're not only fishing for bass, but carp as well. I wouldn't really be very worried about rods breaking if they were only for bassing. ;D Carp, on the other hand... a 5# carp will fight like a 10# flathead at times. One time I caught one on a crawler and it pulled so hard I nearly tripped. I thought I had caught some monster, only to pull out an 8# torpedo shaped dinky common carp.
  25. Ever think of it this way - young 19-22 y.o. kids with nice boats may not all be entitled or spoiled. We youngins tend to be more willing to drop a large chunk of our savings on stuff we like. That can't always be said of maybe a 30-40ish guy with a family to support and mouths to feed. Unlike these guys, we just work, and work and work... and all that resultant money is mainly disposable income innit? I'm 19, and I for one would have no qualms about dropping a whole summer's pay on a nice bass boat. Unfortunately, my money from this year's summer jobs is going directly towards tuition . Now if it weren't for that pesky tuition... I'm sure all you older folks remember a time when you were young and perhaps spent more than you should have on something that you just HAD to have at the time. ;D
