  1. Phil there is also a state ramp in the same cove that the Water Wheel use to be in. Directions are turn on Hendrick Store Rd off Rt 122, right on Timberwood Ln, Right on Meadow Point Dr then second Right is boat ramp. I use that ramp instead of Capitain Quarters just a better ramp. If you use CQ ramp make sure you look at it before putting in you need to keep to one side of it.
  2. Cool good luck to you!!!!!!!!!
  3. Good job Smith Mountain is a tough lake to come out 11th you did good.
  4. CJ how did you do?
  5. Years ago the bead was added to keep the lead egg sinker from weakening knot but it has now evolved into a noise maker. Undoubtedly to cost fisherman more money :-/ on a simple rig.
  6. Ok guys so I don't hide anything from my wife. But when I'm dead and gone if she sells all my fishing and hunting crap for what I told her I paid for it. : Then all my fishing and hunting buddies are going to walking around with big smiles like they just hit the lottery. 8-) d**n I hate to miss a good sale
  7. If I'm fishing on front of boat almost any lenght rod works for me but if I'm on back of the boat I want a shorter rod 6' to 6.5'
  8. Sounds like a day on SML you get a good fish then nothing. Last week Anglers Choice TX 192 boats 78 teams zeroed.
  9. The wind is your friend just ask Rick Clunn
  10. Water is pretty muddy up rivers and creeks but worst conditions here on SLM cold muddy water if it were warm you might be into something. Natural colors in clear water.
  11. Which side of the lake did you fish?
  12. Tips for SML !!!! First boat docks fish as many as you can boat docks produce fish on SML. If your not that familiar with the lake they are the easiest structure to figure out. Front, back, under, suspended in front of, deep docks, shallow docks, just pay attention to where the fish come from. There are over 20000 docks on our lake and I'm convinced that at some point each day there is a good bass looking to eat something on each one of them As far as a deeper pattern late March that's the last place I'd be looking water temps are going to be close to spawning temp fish are going to be shallow. Deep or shallow is a state of mind so to speak. What do you consider deep because here on SML 20 ft is still shallow in this clear water. Some of our fish spawn in 10ft. Glad to help shoot me a pm sometime.
  13. one on each side one on roanoke side one on Blackwater side.
  14. We'll I'm just going to throw in my 2cents. If you've never fished SML before then I suggest you make the trip before you go and spend your cash. A bass is a bass and they all eat, sleep, and swim the same except here at SML. LOL. I have never fished anywhere like it. The fish here are more moody then anyplace I've ever fished. If you draw a good boater you might do well and not knowing the place might work in your advantage maybe you'll slay them on something no one else would throw. SML is tough and boat docks are our main structure more boat docks then anything else. The banks are not like anything else you've mentioned. The water is deep, most places if your within casting distance to the shore your boat will be sitting in 50+ ft. There is plenty of grass in SML but not the kind you can see its deep and only in certain areas. We get a lot of fishing pressure There will be 300 or 400 boats fishing the day of the BFL. The BFL is going out of the State Park and the ABA will be going out of Penhook along with several club and smaller tounrneys so you'll have to be on your game because everything you fish after 9am will be used water more than likely if its a good hole. Anyway not trying to dampen your hopes just painting you a picture of what your going to be up against. I hope you do well I wouldn't expect to see fish on beds if your fishing the BFL on the 12th. Our water temp average is only about 45deg I did find some 48 on Saturday. We'd have to have some really warm weather over the next 12 days to bring it up to spawning temp. So I dont expect to see bass moving on to beds until late March with warmer weather or full moon in April. They will be up shallow crusing the banks for sure thinking about it. Good Luck Chris,
  15. Things are picking up starting to get on them a little. We had 7.5 lbs in 2 fish 8-) lost 2 other really good fish :-/ 4.5lbs 3 something didn't weigh this one
  16. Huh I thought the 400DC was a dual console I must have missed the extra console in the pic. I thought it was 389 with a single console which is only rated for 175 hp. Guess you told me I was just trying to help out :-/ !!!!!!!!!!!! Goodluck again lynyrdsky1
  17. Ok so the 19ft boat in question should weigh about 200 or 300lb more than my 18ft boat :. But it has 25 more HP then my 18ft so 6 in one hand half dozen in the other. My point was you should inquire as to why he put it on a boat, that if it is properly set up should run like a scalded dog!!!!!! I have fished on many different boats and I've never been on a Javelin that didn't scare the crap out of you. He may have put it on there to help with chinewalking or maybe he was pulling skiers. Perhaps it has the wrong prop on it and wont come out of the hole. Either way that boat shouldn't need a Whale tail with a 175 on it. Goodluck in your search, if you have any questions about Javelin shoot me a PM
  18. I agree with Carrington I would ask him about that fin and why he installed it. I have a 2000 model Javelin 18ft it hauls the mail without a fin and comes out of the hole like a rocket with only a 150. NADA on that boat says $4800 to $5400 I'd probley offer $3000.00. My Javelin was NADA 8400.00 guy was asking 8000.00 I got it for 6000.00
  19. My brother hit a floating dock a couple weeks ago that had floated into the middle of the channel on SML. It was 6:30 in the morning the dock was floating flush with the surface of the water impossible to see at that time of the morning at any speed. He was runnning just fast enough to keep boat on plane but still fast enough to bust his lip on the steering wheel.
  20. par4fishin is correct that is a good place. But dont pass up the in town fishing as well my brother and I once caught over 40 smallmouth in the section of the roanoke river right in front of Roanoke Memorial Hospitol on live minnows.
  21. Check out the New River, James River, and parts of the Roanoke River it runs thru the middle of Roanoke but there are a few parks that have access. All can be waded for smallmouth bass. The New River is top notch some of the best SM fishing the state. Good luck shoot me a PM once you get here I'll get you a little more info
  22. Gary Yamamoto super grub nothing better!!!!!!!

  24. Fall, Winter, Spring I'm just saying, Fish hard during theses season and payoff is usually big !!!!!
  25. I got a lightning bug in the eye one night while driving one night. I only know it was a lightning because when I got home it was still under my upper eye lid. But on a differant note everyone should were some type of eye protection while fishing. Heres a picture of one of my best friends he took her 12 yr old daughter out bass fishing a couple years ago. She got her line hung up he pulled on it to free it it broke free the hook came back and struck him in the eye. The bottom edge of the worm hook went through his eye lodged on the other side of his eye. His daugher had to get him back to shore and call 911. He always wore sunglasses but it was late in the evening he had just taken them off. The doctors saved the eye but couldn't save his eye sight. But it makes for some interesting pool games since he makes all ware a patch while shooting.
