  1. I like the Daves Jig and R I Sweet Beaver
  2. Ok I haven't fish Gaston in very long time (1997ish) but the last time I did I placed 2nd in a club tournament. I was a nonboater fishing behind a guy who's main goal was to frontend me and make sure I didnt get to fish the good stuff first. So I had just read an article in Bassmasters about Carolina rigging the points with Yamamoto Grubs on the points on Gaston. It really wasn't my plan but since the jackbutt that I was fishing with did everything in his power to ensure I didn't get to fish any topwater or spinnerbaits or any of the things I planned to fish. I just setback and started pitching grubs on all the docks and structure after he got done fishing them and loaded the boat. I had one over 4lbs after I had 5 he asked if he could use a grub I said no I don't think Ive got enough the way these things are biting and asked if he had read his last months issue of Bassmaster.

  8. Thats my favorite worm 9" Grape, Black, and the Firetails used the Manns Augertails as well. Been useing them since I was a kid back in the 80s.
  9. My brother and I once lanched a new boat on the boat ramp while backing down. The boat slipped of the trailer just like it was on rollers landed on the keel and tipped to one side LOL!!! I guess the new waxed hull was just that slick on the carpet. We had to disconnect the trailer from the truck and crank it under the boat then chock the wheels and push it down to hook it back up !!!!!! The look on Justins face was priceless as he was sitting in the boat wondering what happen.
  10. Can you pitch a jig with that thing!!!!!!!!!
  11. I think if something is going to be banned to save the lives of fish. It should be tournment fishing during the spawn, jerking fish off the beds and carrying them 10 miles up the lake. I don't see how the fish on my home lake even have a spawn with all the tournments 400 or 500 boats a weekend. carrying them all around the lake. March thru June should be pleasure fish only. Anyway I don't see the big deal with the A rig you still got to know how to fish to catch fish with it. Its not a magic lure!!!! I guess when you tie the A rig on you look at the wife and say well honey going catching today see you in a while... Its still fishing and you have to throw it in the right place.

  16. You guys crack me up you should come to Smith Mountain Lake. Quiet whats thats...... with all the d**n ski boats, jet skies, dock parties, para sailing, tsunami size wakes, and screaming. You feel more like your in Charlotte Motor Speedway at the Coke Cola 600 rather than having a day on the lake..... I could pull a 8X10 floater behind the boat with a live band on it and the fish wouldn't notice LOL
  17. Soft water does work best LOL.... 38 degree water at the ramp but down the lake its about 46 to 47. The air temp was only 24 with the wind chill when we started and it got up to about 40 around 2 pm I started to stay home glad I didn't turned out to be a great day. Heres some pix from last weekend didn't get any stripers but my sons still razzing me about that pig he caught being bigger then mine!!
  18. The one most important thing to remember when winter fishing is when you think your fishing slow enough slow down even more and then you might be fishing slow enough.I take up to 5 to 7 mins per cast when jig fishing in the winter
  19. The lake I use to fish as a teen had pike in it not many bass. My best friend and I fish would fish it 2 or 3 times a week during the summer. Early in the morning we would wade the entire lake the deepest hole in 7 to 8 feet it was 20 acres with an island of broom type grass. We would fish topwater baits most days and we'd catch 15 or 20 pike between 15 to 30 inches. I can't count the number of pike I caught unhooked dropped back in the water then thrown topwater bait back by them and catch them again. I also cant count the number of doubles we caught either one on the front hook and one on the rear hook when 2 pike hit the same lure.
  20. East winds usually follow cold fronts. As a front moves in you get west or south wind and fish feed up as the front moves in. Then as the front moves out leaving east or north east wind and fish bite less after the front moves out until the weather stabilzes again.
  21. Sounds like a good night even if you didnt win.
  22. Bull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This guy was in the tackle store Thursday expressing his opinion about how he was worried someone cheating and how he was concerned about being able to pass the polygraph while taking blood pressure medicine. I don't buy it I heard from 2 seperate sources the same story and neither had anything to do with life jackets! So as far as I'm concerned if he shows up at any tournaments I planning to fish I'll be sure to point him out to tournament directors!!!! Don't have any use for cheaters
  23. Night fishing is in my opinion best time bass fish here on SML. Right now its taking 20 lbs to win night tournys and only 10 to 12 during day tournys. After next week the summer boat traffic makes day time fishing tough on the weekends. Were you all pulling a white boat behind your house boat?
