  3. Yeah thats SML for you I can't count the times I've been on boat loads of fish only to come back a couple of day later to find nothing, go figure it seems to happen more on SML then any other lake. I'll be glad to join you someday or give you some helpful info just PM me. I find on SML you almost have to drop the trolling motor and find the fish each trip here they don't hang out long in any location. Chris,
  4. What point? There was a point in the background? : I thought about dropping the spoon but I never did probley should have. Carrington, I started off using a map when I first started fishing SML you can learn a lot studying it. Most of the areas I fish I've learned are from 19 years of fishing on SML some are spots I found studying my map 19 yrs ago. The most important thing is pay attention to your electronics while fishing keep up with where why and how you caught a fish. SML is a hard lake at times. Our pre spawn starts late Feb early March with spawn in late March thru April with post spawn around end of april thru May . It depends alot on water temp and moon phase but that should put you in the ball park.
  5. We fished a 300yd strech of bank for 2.5 hours working structure form bank to about 40 ft. That fish was on a rocky ledge that stair steps. It slopes from bank to 12' then drops straight to 29' it then slopes out about 10 yds further about to 37' before dropping into creek channel thats about 70' deep. He was on that flat area in 29' to 37' and when I thought I was working my jig slow enough I'd slow down some more. So I would say each cast was 3 to 5 minutes or longer.
  6. A buddy and I hit the lake today for a cold day on the water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First Bass, 29 degrees and spitting snow water temp was 39.8 and to think he didn't even ask me if I was crazy when I said grab your poles and meet me at 7:30 this morning What a Pretty 29 degree day!!!! It wasn't very cold today!!!!!!!! Really!!!!!! Thanks Chris,

I was from Charles Co I go down 301 south then right on route 3 west thru Fredricksburgs to left on Route 20 thru Orange VA to right on Rt 33 to left on 29 south at Ruckerville follow 29 south to Lynchburg right on 460 west then left on 122 at Bedford then follow to SML. From SML it takes me 4 1/2 hours to get to Solomons Is 8-)
  10. I have 7 Ardent reels dont have the pitching reel but mine are top notch great reels. I think I'd just get a regular Ardent reel and call it my pitching reel then you could use it for Worming, and C - rigging as well as maybe swimbaits on a heavy rod. Just a thought
  11. I have a St Criox Mojo Bass Flipping rod I like pretty well its not the best but priced around $100 to 120 depending where you get it
  12. http://www.castawayrods.com/home/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=329&category_id=47&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=10047 I love this rod its great Carolina or just worming or jig. Its great I have all castaway rods this one is $99 I wouldn't trade it for any other
  13. Dark colored plastics, Dark colored jigs, Crawfish colored Crankbaits are a good start in the fall. Fish shallow 0 to 10 ft and slow is also a good start.
  14. I have been working on a paintball gattlin gun to mount in place of the front seat on my boat to use on rude people!!!! We had some kids throwing rocks at us and hiding on there deck one day. While we were fishing there dock this went on for a few rocks worth until I yelled at them. Told them I was going to stop by there house when I got done fishing and when there dad opened the door I was going to drag there daddy out in the yard and whoop his AASSS while tell him why I was doing it so he would be sure to whoop there's when I got done > and let him know that every time they threw a rock at my boat again I was going to stop back by until his kids learned some manners 8-)
  15. Try some different types of worms ex. Needle, Paddle Tail, Trick, Finesse, Curly Tail, sometime it makes a difference
  16. Yeah I've got a bunch of stories some I cant belive myself just very inconsiderate people I've learned to live with it and youre right night is worst I think.
  17. Ok so all my life I've thought there was some kind of etiquette in fishing. But the last few years I've learned there is no such thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here on Smith Mountain Lake we have the rudest anglers in they world. Example my buddy and I was fishing a bank then a boat pulls up fifty yard in front of us starts fishing some downed trees I was working up too. They were so embarrassed they would not even look at us when I made a loud comment about how we had 500 miles of shoreline here on SML :-? and why they has to cut us off > This is just one of the many stories I have it doesn't even surprise me anymore.
  18. Ok so I hope we can all agree with this :-/ !!!!!!!!! All lakes are different that's why have tournaments on different lakes. Now on my home lake the match the hatch is very important at certain times of the year. This wasn't as important before the alewives were introduced. The DNR let the gizzard shad die off in the winter and stocked alewives. This has made a huge difference in the way the bass feed since the alewives are smaller and easier for the bass to eat. This has caused many of the bass to spend much of their time chasing alewives. > It has caused us all to change the way we fish and not for the good it makes for some tough days.
  19. Here on SML if you dont match the hatch to some degree you'll have a long fishless day .... :-/
  20. Ive been having a lot of that as well try switching to a fluke with the hook exposed. It seemed to work for me.......
  21. There great reels you would be more then happy. Like I said I have 2 of them. I cant tell you how much I paid for mine that would make you sick. Ok I will the local Gander Mountain store is doing a remodel so they have everything in the fishing department on clearance. I bought 3 - 219.00 Castaway rods and 2 - 269.00 XS1000 reels. I paid 238.00 for all The reels were 67.00 each. My fishing buddy bought 4 of them. They also had the 199.00 XS600 marked at 50.00
  22. Ok I own two XS1000 reels and they are right there the ugliest reels I've ever seen but I've been fishing 30yrs and have never seen a baitcaster cast a light lure as far with out a backlash as this reel can and I would recommend this reel to anyone it gets 10 stars from me.......... Great reels
  23. Ok so I watch the Lost Lake show and I find it very helpful Ive been fishing 35 years and always find something useful in this show. So if they know the lake or not its still a helpful show !!!!!!
  24. I like to fish into the wind but thats because thats what I've always heard is best so that what I do. But I have caught bass fishing all wind directions.
  25. Thanks for all the warm welcomes maybe you guys can teach me something!!!!!!!
