  1. That's like going fishing in a new, light colored shirt, just asking for it.
  2. It happens while bank fishing a lot. Thankfully I don't bank fish very often anymore. Hitting weeds or a tree limb on the back cast or during the cast is the worst.
  3. I had one of the original ones and liked it, but the thing just folded in half while I was yo-yoing a trap on fall, craziest way I've ever seen a rod break.
  4. Bandit 100 and 200 series cranks. They're cheap, catch fish, and only thing that gets through a tree easier is a squirrel. Academy squarebills are also cheap baits that fish through cover very well and catch a ton of fish.
  5. Are you upgrading the hooks on the baits? That will make a huge difference with some baits that don't come with very good hooks. Also, what line are you using? I've found that with braid it seems I rip a big hole on the hookset and makes it easy for a fish to toss the bait. I fished a 7' 6" H/F flipping stick with swimbaits for awhile this year and I lost very few fish with it.
  6. Back off the spot and try to make a long cast back to it.
  7. Mondo Tackle LLC 14515 W 101st Terrace Lenexa, KS 66215 The time is TBD but I'm going to suggest to Raymond we shoot for something like 6 or 7 so everyone can get off work and have time to get there unless it needs to be earlier.
  8. If you come up from the south you can go 56 to E. 550 north to N 750, to E 661 Diagonal rd or county Rd 1. The sign off 56 actually says Clinton Lake at the turn onto 550 but Lonestar is straight south of Clinton. If you take the turn off 56 that says Lonestar Lake, then you go down several miles of dirt roads and come in at the southeast end of the lake.
  9. k-10 to 59 to 458 to county road 1. Go west across the dam or east back into and around the big cove. Only gravel you have to go on is the parking area by the east ramp. You drive a bunch of gravel if you come up the southeast side. You can come up the southwest side and never touch gravel too.
  10. you can get there without ever touching gravel on the west ramp.
  11. Fellas I think Raymond at Mondo wants us to do the discount night this Thursday and I need a headcount because he wants to supply us with pizza and beer. Not sure about any prizes or discount amount but I know there will be one. Send me a pm or text. If you haven't been to Mondo's yet this would be a great chance to check it out.
  12. Even through that blurry picture you can tell that suckers a water moccasin. Thick body, the color and shape of the head, plus the fact it's floating on the water like it's made of foam. I've only ever seen 2, once was this last April at Table Rock. I was so focused on getting the Megabass Vision 110 Magnum that I'd spotted out of a tree that I almost didn't see him until I was right next to the big rock he was sunning on. Quickly did an about face in the boat so my brother in law, who is really scared of snakes come to find out, was right next to him. Lots of girly screaming, boat rocking, and cussing ensued I was able to peel him off my shoulders and get the bait out of the tree without any issues though
  13. For anyone wanting to fish Saturday morning at Osage State Lake I won't be able to make it but if you have a capable vehicle someone can use my johnboat to fish the Saturday morning deal. It's not nearly as light as most johnboats due to the wood deck on front, just fyi.
  14. I've got 2 Vendettas in my arsenal, both came from Wal Mart for $30 apiece
  15. IMO, the STX gets deeper and has a more subdued action the the LC Slender Pointer (the 97MR anyways). The pointer only dives a few feet and has a pretty aggressive slashing action and more roll. Those are my 2 favorite suspending jerkbaits without a doubt.
  16. Skeet's Magic is a killer for me. It used to be American shad but the last few years I can't buy a strike with it.
  17. fishingskirts.com, pick your colors and tie your own.
  18. Xcaliber XR50 and XRK50, Rayburn Red, gold black back, chrome blue, and ghost.
  19. Thanks, I made that one after having some success on a pink and white one I made kind of as a joke. Since then that pink and chartreuse has become a very productive bladed jig color for me.
  20. Bladed jigs are KILLERS at night. The strong vibration, good profile, and the fact they can be retrieved nice and slow just seems to be a deadly combination. I like solid black, black/black/blue, and green pumpkin at night. Jigs, 10" worms, and swimbaits are pretty much the only other baits I fish at night.
  21. Not only will they work with plastics, crazy colors will work with moving baits too. A closeup of the bait in that studly basses mouth, which came from a very pressured local lake. When the normal colors aren't working is a good time to try them. I've had really good luck with pink in clear water. Neon orange works well around fish that are eating bluegills and sunfish. A bright orange and yellow spinnerbait is a killer around cover in the spring for me.
  22. X2, they'll catch bass every way you can rig a plastic from weightless on a spinning rod with light line, to pitching into heavy cover with heavy line on a baitcaster. I own dozens of different colors and brands of straight worms but it's pretty hard to beat green pumpkin, watermelon red, and black. A 1/8oz shakyhead is my favorite way to fish them.
  23. Well I guess that blows the "replicas don't look real" argument right out of the water Looks like that thing would swim away if if touched the water.
  24. But, but, wacky rigs only catch dinks Awesome fish man and props for getting her from a pressured lake and from the bank
  25. That happened last year at one of my favorite smallie lakes on the 4th of July. Wife and I had a rare day off together so we went to the lake, expecting it to be packed. There was fewer boats there than there normally is on a nice weekend day during the summer. Fishing was terrific that day, lots of solid smallmouths. My weekend is during the week so empty parking lots are the norm for me
