  1. Going to depend a lot on time of year, water temp, clarity, ect. If there is a fishable population of largemouth I'd rather target those in a tournament. Not only do they tend to be larger, but smallmouths bad habits of disappearing on tournament day drives me crazy.
  2. We have a free weight room at work that I sprint past to get to my truck to go home after work, does that count? I play softball once in awhile. We used to do soccer and flag football for PT at my last job. I doubt where I work now would go for that, too much potential for injuries that would result in people being on light duty. It was a lot of fun though, good way to let off steam, get some exercise, and bond with your coworkers. Always a good way to get in a cheap shot on someone that was rubbing you the wrong way too
  3. I vertical jigged white bass with one, not surprised a laker would hit one.
  4. X2, only Rapala crank that I would willing pay full price for other than the Shad Rap. I've seen it fished side by side with some of my favorite cranks like the LC 1.5 and Little Jon and while they wouldn't touch those they were inhaling the Scatter Rap. If I can find some grass to crank it over or standing timber to crank it through it's probably going to be my first choice of baits unless the water is dirty. I'm not buying into the bait ball thing at all. I'm sure they'll catch fish, but they won't be catching any fish for me.
  5. It's a power plant lake so until they close the plant down like they will in March it should stay open Water temps we were fishing ranged from 60-51 degrees depending how close to the plant we were.
  6. 1/8-1/4oz Little Cleos, Castmasters, or Super Dupers. Last year they really liked gold but we fished lots of cloudy days so that may have had something to do with it. I'm sure they'd eat inline spinners but we never fished one. Ned rigs worked pretty well, as did small cranks like little countdown Rapalas or Rapala Ultra Light cranks. Jon caught several on a Luck E Strike G5 along with some largemouth. Small crappie jigs and micro jigs either cast or fished under a bobber all worked really well also. I've been tying up a bunch of trout jigs so I'll try to remember to post some pictures of what they look like. If I remember right almost all our biggest fish ate the Little Cleos. I had a monster follow a deep diving jerkbait to the boat also.
  7. Outdoors notebook: Trout stocking set for Lake Shawnee Auburndale Park also stocked with trout Posted: February 15, 2014 - 5:43pm From staff reports Lake Shawnee is slated to be stocked with 7,000 pounds of rainbow trout next weekend, according to a press release from Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. The lake will be closed following the Feb. 22 stocking until 6 a.m. March 1 to give the trout ample time to disperse and acclimate to their new surroundings. They will be released at the main boat ramp. Trout must be a minimum of 11 inches in length, and at least 600 will be in excess of 4 pounds each. Some of the trout will be tagged, so if a tagged trout is caught, the tag should be removed and brought to the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation office, 3137 S.E. 29th, to redeem a prize. For more information, contact Terry Bertels by phone at 251-2600 or by email atterry.bertels@snco.us.
  8. Great bait, lots of good ways to fish it. I like to use them on a shakyhead, football head, Rocker head, C-rig, T-rig, split shot rig or a stand up head. I prefer the Gonzo grub over the Chompers or hula grub because they're a little more durable.
  9. Any rumors to when the next one is going to happen? I'm looking to pick up a few rods but hoping they'll have one before the season gets too far along.
  10. I have that exact rod and it is a great deep crankbait rod but would be a horrible jig rod. I agree with the 7' MH/F Mojo, it's a good jig and plastics rod.
  11. I use either Mustad Ultra line or Pline C21 14-17 pound for all those except the swim jig which I normally fish on my jig rod with 20lb fluoro. Not a fan of braid for moving baits like that because I feel them much faster and react too soon sometimes and pull the bait away from the fish.
  12. I'm assuming it's a pistol grip casting rod? If that's the case it would make a decent close quarters spinnerbait rod.
  13. I usually look for the hook to come out right around the halfway point. Most fish that eat those little baits are going to inhale them pretty easily. You don't want a hook that's too long either because it will restrict the baits swimming action.
  14. Late winter/early spring I rarely put my jerkbait rod down, if I do it's usually to fish a jig.
  15. Was way nicer than it has been. We've barely made it above 20 for a few weeks now and it got up to 46 Thursday with very little wind so it felt like a spring day almost. Hopefully this Wednesday or Thursday! That's what was working for us really well. Actually tried something different with them, we were lifting and letting them fall, kind of like helicoptering a spinnerbait. They were really smashing the bait when it was falling back towards the bottom.
  16. Salt water anglers often toss fish back at the water head first to give their gills a strong rush of oxygen when they hit the water to help revive them. I really think you are over thinking it. Bass and other fish don't possess the cognitive skills to think "Ow! that big jerk just tossed me back in the water!" All the fish is probably thinking is his captor dropped him and he better swim away quickly before you come back to finish the job. A bass' brain thinks about food, survival, and making more bass and very little else.
  17. I always have extra cloths and a towel in the truck. It's not just the days you get wet either, there's been plenty of those late spring/early fall days where I thought I had enough cloths that I was really glad I had some extras with me.
  18. 2 Sausage, egg, and cheese sandwichs and my 24oz coffee mug on the way to the lake. 2 Pb&j's and Monster Rehab on the water. I have to eat on the water or suffer the wrath of a blinding migraine headache later. Plus, fat boy likes his food
  19. Basshunter0731 and I fished a power plant lake on Thursday. Was my second time out this year and his first trip of the year and we smoked them. First boat on the water and only 2 other boats showed up. We surely caught in the neighborhood of 100 largemouth, and for sure caught over 100 fish if you count the crappie, white bass, wiper, catfish, and drum. The outlet produced quite a few fish but we found one area in the colder water where they were stacked up and we caught them about as fast as we could get a bait in the water for almost 2 hours. No monsters, a 4lb 3oz largemouth was our biggest, but tons of them in the high 2 pound/low 3 pound range. My home made bladed jigs or Rocker jighead with a beaver bait was best, color mattered very little. One of several doubles. Another
  20. Got her a Belgian waffle maker and went out to some fancy, overpriced place where the food wasn't even as good as something I could have made at home. As an added bonus they were trying to pack in as many people as possible to really cash in on V day so we got to share a big table with a bunch of people we'd never met before, fun times.

  22. If I catch a crappie it's usually an accident. Very little fight and I don't eat them so not much point to fishing for them. Only exception is if they're biting well and the person I'm fishing with wants to keep some or nothing else is biting. When I do fish for them I usually fish a 2 or 3 inch power minnow on a 1/16-1/8 ounce jighead.
  23. Me and Cbass12 are going to try to get out there this week too. Thursday works best for me but it's going to depend on the wind. Also going to depend if I can get a babysitter or not, Lake isn't quite old enough to go all day yet. Even if I can't go I can give you guys and idea of where we were.

I'm sure I'm missing a couple and there's a whole bunch of public ponds and WIFA ponds I've fished that I'm not going to list. I've had success on all of them. It would be really hard for me to pick favorites, most all of them have stuff I like about them and several of them I like a lot. I have a couple reports in the KC area thread you can check out and see if you like anything you read about any of those lakes
  25. I have one of their Mettles and it's in my starting line up right next to my Curados and Lews and it keeps up with all of them. Their squarebills are in my top 3 favorite shallow cranks. When the cover gets nasty, it's time to break them out. It's a whole lot easier to lose an H2O than a LC. Plus they're loud baits, so they pull fish out of cover well anyways. The smaller size squarebill is a great little smallmouth bait for me also.
