  1. Sounds like you have a winning combo in mind already.
  2. I like VMC's. They're sharp and fairly inexpensive for someone on a budget with a lot of hooks to change. I've heard about people having problems with them getting straightened but I've never had a problem even when I accidently catch big catfish or hybrids.
  3. The 5lb smallmouth I caught Monday had the tail of probably a 7-9 inch crappie sticking out of it's throat. I'm not sure how it even managed to get it into it's mouth. I guess it shouldn't be surprising to me, I've seen enough 12 inch smallmouth try to eat a full sized Spook to know they'll hit a bait about half their size.
  4. Super Spook Jr walked fast over the boils.
  5. Has it changed since they published this article in Bassmaster? Or is it just in this particular lake? http://www.docstoc.com/docs/37957024/Manabu-Kurita-New-World-Record-Largemouth-Bass That's good news if they have since Japan obviously has great big fish potential.
  6. We have lots and lots of brown recluse spiders around here, my parents have them bad in their house. I can't tell the number of times when I was living at home I'd grab a towel for the shower or a clean shirt and shake it out and a brown recluse would hit the floor. They have a nasty habit of getting inside cloths and stuff like that so I always shook out my cloths first. The woodpile in the garage was terrible. Pick up a 2X4 and there would be 2 or 3 under each board all the way to the floor.
  7. I could have sworn it was an old green "B" he was tossing. Even if it wasn't I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a few of them running around on the pro tour. They were and still are a solid reel that is easy to modify and work on.
  8. Man that sucks I lost all my tackle once and my boat another time. Thankfully I wasn't very old when I lost my gear and didn't have much and the boat was only a plastic 2 man but it was my first boat and I'd scrapped up every bit of change I had to buy it for 50 bucks, hurt pretty bad to lose it. If I ever caught someone trying to steal anything out of my boat not only would they not be getting anything from my boat but they'd probably need a new pair of pants after they heard my 12 gauge racking I have no tolerance for a thief. I don't make enough money to be able to afford buying new stuff just because someone else didn't want to pay for it.
  9. Very nice smallies! That's a lot of fun right there!
  10. That's the same fish! J/K but they do look like they could be twins Once again you caught 2 fish in a single day bigger than any I'll probably ever catch, nice job
  11. Wait until you feel the weight but don't wait too long. If you wait too long they can get the bait balled up in their mouth and you'll just set the hook back into the bait. Feel the weight and set straight up. It really shouldn't take a 3 count, just a second or two to feel the weight and set the hook. If you're fishing heavy cover they may be burying back into it too deep and you can't get a hard enough hookset to penetrate the fisheds mouth so it just pops out. If you're making long casts a little longer rod probably wouldn't hurt either. Make sure you feel the weight of the fish. It's hard to do at night because you hear the explosion and want to set the hook. I usually speed up when I hear it and as soon as I feel weight I set the hook. Doing it that way if the fish missed the sudden change in speed will get them to come back sometimes also. I description of your tackle would help. I like a 6' 6" or 7' M or M/H and high speed reel with copoly, fluoro, or mono. I don't like braid for buzzbaits because I feel like I pull the bait away from the fish. Make sure the hook is sharp too, sometimes they need touched up straight out of the package.
  12. If I can see 4 or 5 feet down that's really clear around here. I'd much rather be able to see about a foot or two down. Stained or muddy water makes it so much easier to find and catch fish unless the water's cold.
  13. Man I'd give anything to fish in some rain! Seems everytime I've gone out this year has been bright sun, hot, and calm. I'd much rather fish in some rain and wind than in calm, sunny conditions. I've got 3 different rain suits to cover any tempature, I say bring it on!
  14. That was the first thing that came to my mind. Pretty sure it's even illegal to release them in Japan like it is with a snakehead or asian carp here.
  15. Get out a dark, bulky bait like a big jig and trailer or big soft plastic and fish it tight to cover. Might also try a squarebill rooted around shallow cover or a flashy spinnerbait if there is some wind blowing.
  16. This was a Fat C.B.D.S zero in American Shad color. *** lists it at 1 3/4 inches long with a dive depth of 1/2 foot. I was getting way deeper than that, probably down to 3 or 4 feet deep because I was hitting rocks way out on some of the points. My partner was catching lots of smallmouth on a small junebug colored tube, never would have guessed they'd eat something that color in the lower end of the lake. I normally catch them on a shakeyhead with a 4" GP stickbait but they wanted none of it last week.
  17. It was still pretty hot a couple weeks ago when we were down there. Fished hard for 4 hours and caught 3 fish. Water was down and fish were no where to be found.
  18. I've got the Supreme XT and love it. Good looking reel, light weight, and super smooth. You already have one you like, why not another?
  19. The curado 50e is a great little reel. I throw small topwaters and jerkbaits with mine and it cast them a mile.
  20. 6" Huddleston Deluxe or Matt's U2 bluegill
  21. I've set the hook pitching and had small fish bounce off the side of the boat and die, never had it happen no a hookset though.
  22. I've got a lot of time to fish right now while my wife is out of town for a couple months. Problem is I went out on the river catfishing the other night and sucked up some sand and clogged my water line So now I'm waiting for a part to blow it out and hope that the impeller didn't get burnt up so I have to take the lower unit off and replace it. I've done that 3 times now and all three times have been on the same river, you'd think I'd learn
  23. I have been getting some really early daylight and evening pictures. I went out tonight and had deer crawling all over around me, across the field a couple nice bucks too! I had one nice doe that I rushed the shot on and whiffed under her Had another big doe walk right under me and never had a good shot. Felt good to get back into the old treestand
  24. That's a lot of fun right there! Something about lipless crankbaits seem to snag a lot of carp for me too.
