  1. I had some Chompers Garlic spray in an aersol can I was using when the spray nozzle shot off and I got sprayed in the face and up my nose, I smelled and tasted garlic for probably a week after that.
  2. I'd have to agree, never seen a lucky craft with a painted lip unless those are all custom jobs. Lots of people out there trying to scam someone and make a quick buck. The unpainted knockoffs are less than 1/3 of what a regular LC sells for. I'm sure someone could paint them and say they're LC and someone will take the bait eventually and they'll make a good profit off of them.
  3. You can buy baits that look very similar to LC baits. I don't know if they are as effective or not but they aren't very hard to find. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/crankbait-bodies/341522.aspx# http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/crankbait-bodies/341122.aspx#
  4. Lots of people bowhunt black bear and they use the same bows they hunt whitetail with. They aren't really much thicker skinned than a deer, just more fur and fat. I think the hardest part is making an accurate shot because the fur can make it difficult to decide where to put the arrow. I've even got a video of a guy running across a field trying to catch up a brown bear and shooting it between the eyes with a arrow and dropping it like he'd shot it with a rifle, so a blackbear isn't a problem with a bow.
  5. A few of them might not make it, but that's just something you have to accept to fish with treble hooks. Bass get plenty of injuries from cover, predators, baitfish fins, and crawdad pinchers and survive just fine so I probably wouldn't worry that you're killing a large number of fish unless they are bleeding very badly.
  6. I'm going to guess since the crankbait you're catching fish on is firetiger color that you're fishing fairly dirty or stained water. If that is the case then watermelon/red might not be your best color choice. Keep your colors simple, some dark colors and some lighter, more natural colors. In dirty water I like black, purple, junebug, redbug, any dark color really. For clearer water colors like anything watermelon, green pumpkin, pumpkinseed, sand, colors that look like something that might be living in the water you're fishin. Keep your bait selection simple starting out too to make it easier on you and give you a chance to really learn a bait instead of wondering if a different bait would work better. I'd probably buy a couple colors of worms in a couple different styles. Start out with some ribbontail worms and some straight tail worms and experiment with both. As for the boat, I feel like I have more control and better feel of my bait if I fish with the boat going into the wind. I can hold the boat much steadier than if I'm going with the wind.
  7. I showed her the rod and she loved it. It's so light and thin it fits in her tiny hands, but more importantly, it's pink pearl with a holographic reel seat She picked out the Quantum Energy PT because it has the holographic finish on it and it matches the rod, because your rod and reel should always match
  8. After loosing the battle with a big fish and getting my 80lb braid busted a couple nights ago, I decided to hit the same spot on the Kansas River to try to redeem myself. After 3 SLOW hours of nothing but a softshell turtle, I decided to pack up and walk another 100 yards downriver to fish the backend of an eddy with a big logjam in it. I thought for sure I could at least catch a small flathead from the logjam since I had a few 4-6 carp and buffalo, but I put out a couple rods with cut carp also just in case a blue swam by. Not really anything more than a couple light taps and I was about to pack it in when one of my rods started to slowly bend towards the river. I jumped up and hammered the hook home and dug in for a good fight since it had hit my smallest rod that only had 30lb big game. After about 5 minutes I drug a healthy 20 pound blue onto the sand. Not the fish that broke me off a couple days ago but a great fish to get before work! Turning it loose to grow to a state record! Might have to go out before work again tomorrow night!
  9. Fished Wyandotte on Tuesday until my trolling motor batteries died, forgot to charge them . The smallmouth were biting really well with lots of fish on squarebills, shakeyheads, and a popper. Caught the biggest largemouth I've caught out there in a long time at 3lbs 10ozs Got her on a shakeyhead out from under a dock in about 10 feet of water. Took a picture of one of the darkest smallmouth I've ever caught out of there, also on a shakeyhead under a dock but right on the bank. Fished the Wednesday night tournament and took 2nd with 3.34 lbs and big bass with a whopping 1.82lber
  10. A glutton for punishment are you? Last time I fished that lake was probably 6 or 7 years ago and we worked hard to catch 2 small bass and a channel cat. I've heard it hasn't gotten any better since then. One of the only lakes that I'd rather fish Hillsdale before I went out there.
  11. The strip pits are always a good option. They're pretty hit or miss and take some time and trial and error before you find which pits have the big fish in them. Get a Mined Wildlife area map to help you find them. Generally, the ones close to Pittsburg don't have many big fish in them but lots of fish. Bone creek is a good lake with lots a quality fish and some bigger ones mixed in. Lake Ft.Scott gives you the same chances as Bone but more bonus species like whites and spotted bass. Elm Creek and Bourban State Lake both have bigger fish also.
  12. I guess it would have more of a splash, I would say it spits. Mainly I can make it spit and walk the dog at the same time and it just seems to drive the fish crazy. It doesn't dive down and chug hard but kind of glides along the surface and spits water pretty easily.
  13. I don't change baits very often, I just pick up a different rod. I do a lot of junk fishing and will make a couple casts with one bait, pick up a different rod and make a casts or two at something I thought I should hit with that bait, and then pick up another rod. If something is really producing then I'll stick with it for the most part but I always try to keep an open mind that just because what I'm using is working doesnt' mean something else won't work better.
  14. Like Clayton86 said, find some deeper water with some sort of cover. Big fish will usually seek out the best spots. Lots of rivers this time of year are running low on water so deeper holes tend to attract more fish this time of year.
  15. You may try chumming one spot in the pond (if legal in your state) for about a week with corn before you try to fish it. If there are carp in there you might even get to see them start to show up if you make sure to go at the same time every day. As for sunfish and bluegills eating corn, a single kernal on a small hook used to be one of my favorite baits for both before I found out a small piece of a grub works just as well and I didn't have to carry a canopener fishing You might try to look for a really sticky carp dough bait that the sunfish couldn't pull off the hook also.
  16. Nice, I think I might try either Melvern or Milford this week. The funds were not there this last week unfortunately. Stayed close and fished Wyandotte but managed to put 18 smallies in the boat up to 16". Not Melvern but not bad for the 'Dotte either.
  17. I've had a pair for probably 6 or 7 years now and have had no problems with it. I'm really rough on my pair and despite them being a little tighter than they used to be for some reason they still keep me warm in dry in some of the worst weather of the year. They are expensive but to stay warm and dry they are worth it.
  18. I've got both and would take an Xcalibur Zell pop over either of them any day.
  19. I have the CD There's several other good songs on the Bone Collector CD about hunting and fishing. I really like Casey Ashley's song "Fisherman" also if you haven't heard it.
  20. The pink trions are good rods, my sister has one and it works really well for her. I just got my wife the best thing I could afford because if her equipment is working well and easy to use then she is alot happier than if her line is tangling up or her reel isn't reeling smoothly.
  21. This sport requires a large amount of trust to be had between anglers. I have no problem if you beat me fair and square but as soon as I find out someone has cheated once or even tried to cheat I could never trust them enough to fish in a tournament they were in. I couldn't imagine guys on the pro level that do it for a living would be any more understanding than me. You did the right thing for sure and you can never make a tough decision that will make everyone happy.
  22. The 3x stuff is great for durability and one of my go to baits when bluegills and sunfish are a problem. The Rodent has been a good producer but not sure if it's any better than another beaver bait. I've had success with most rage baits but something about a rage craw falling through weeds or brush seems to be almost irresistable at times. There may be baits that are more durable but I'd rather have to go buy more because I was catching fish then fish a bait that isn't getting as many bite because it lasts longer.
  23. Very nice fish and story! I'd love to get to fish on a day that was cloudy! Seems like everytime I've gone this year has been bright sunny skies.
  24. Canada would be fun, until it got cold out! I can deal with heat but I just can't deal with sub-zero temps.
