  1. Blue Fox big crappie jig is my sunfish getter of choice if I need something like that. Not sure if you can still find any of them though.
  2. When I saw the plans for the lake, it showed the east cove was to be blocked off to boat traffic completely. I'm not sure if that's still happening or if they decided not to do it but that would be a big loss to boat fishermen out there.
  3. I guess I didn't realize what you meant when you said "heavy".
  4. I have several of the Magellan shirts and have been really happy with them. I have little to compare them to since I've never spent the money on any higher end shirts, but they seen to meet everything you're looking for in a $20 shirt. https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/magellan-outdoors-mens-casting-long-sleeve-crew-shirt#repChildCatSku=116136604
  5. Shimanos are pretty well known for having slight backplay in their handles in some of their models, but you're comparing higher end reels to lower end reels and their tolerances. A lot of what you pay for with higher end reels, other than quality components, is that refined feeling and tighter tolerances that make them feel and function so nicely. I haven't noticed it with any of my KK reels, I'm sure it might be there, but not enough it's bothered me. Something that bugs one person is no big deal to the next though.
  6. We hear it all the time but often take it for granted "Be careful"! or "Wear you lifejacket"! I've been around water my entire life as an avid outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing, trapping, swimming, you name it, I love being outside and around the water. I rarely take the time to think of how the thing I enjoy being on and around so much can also be deadly. I heard a couple days ago that a long time acquaintance, avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, PWT competitor, and all around good guy was found drown on a local reservoir yesterday. He was the kind of guy that you'd never in a million years expect it to happen to, but we forget that it can happen to any of us. I didn't know him really well but we knew each other and shared a bond through our love of the outdoors and I enjoyed many conversations about hunting and fishing, as well as some good natured ribbing about walleye being better than bass and vice versa. He was a part time DJ at the club where my wife and I first met and spent many good times at, everybody liked him. Now I see how much hurt and pain is left behind where he is supposed to be, it's really sobering. So if you see me in my pictures of videos wearing an inflatable PFD more frequently, this will have a big portion to do with it. He had 2 boys, just like I do, and if nothing else I owe it to them to make sure I do everything I can to make sure the sport I love doesn't take me away from them. So one more time guys, wear it, and be careful out there. Sorry for my long winded, emotional post, this one just hits really close to home. RIP Steve. http://www.kake.com/story/40726396/boater-who-disappeared-at-marion-reservoir-found-dead?fbclid=IwAR2IT92I2lvMz5L9eYGmcPtXH2KHw3yNxjQUXuwOVcnE5S4F1JQuSIAIALI
  7. That's a monster. I wonder why they'd be out there sampling fish without a scale big enough to weight a fish like that? Assuming they probably have a 50lb scale, I'm sure they run into fish too big for that on a fairly regular basis.
  8. Man that first sentence made me go cross-eyed trying to read it. Do you mean they're turning backwards a significant ways or are you able to just feel it bump backwards very slightly? There's some higher end reels pretty well known for their backwards handle play as well.
  9. Agree with this. I've had better luck with a San Diego Jam for getting the most strength out of my fluoro vs a palomar.
  10. You just have to remember to make sure that if you let them get it deep that you make sure there's room to work when you're removing the trebles I didn't have any issues getting this one back, and it's the same 3 hook KVD jerkbait you're referring to.
  11. Lucky Craft Slender Pointer 97, 112, and 127 Lucky Craft Pointer 65, 78, 100, and 128 Strike King KVD 300 Duo Realis 110 and 120 Duo Realis Rozante 77 Berkley Skinny Cutter Ima Flit 100
  12. 2 of them actually. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Megabass_Megadog/descpage-MBMD.html Agreed, I can't decide which one I like best. There's several baits with that transfer system in them now. I have a Duel Hardcore jerkbait in Pro Blue that looks really similar internally.
  13. Kitchen Shears from Walmart. They're $.98 and they'll cut all kinds of line, packaging, bait (for multi-species guys like myself), even thin wire. When I drop them in the lake like I always eventually do, I buy another pair. A nice bonus is they fit perfectly into the molded in tool holder in my boats console.
  14. Their stuff/style isn't for me, so I don't pay attention to them, problem solved.
  15. Welcome!
  16. A delayed Welcome!
  17. Dottie was the heaviest confirmed LMB, no disputing that, regardless of how she was caught. At least Mac was honest enough to admit she wasn't caught according to the rules and regulations.
  18. That's weird, it was the clearest I've ever seen it a couple weeks ago when we fished it last time for a Thursday nighter, probably 3-4 feet of visibility. It was crawling with kayakers, people swimming from the beach (which I've heard they just recently cracked down on to encourage people paying to use the new swimming area), and people walking around randomly. The fish we caught were pretty healthy. Had 8 keepers over 18" between 5 or 6 boats up to nearly 4 pounds. I think my son and I had the smallest one at right at 18" and just shy of 3 pounds. Here's half of them that I can find pictures of. I wonder if they just did some more construction near the mouth of the creek that muddied the whole lake up and shut them down?
  19. Have to disagree with that one. I can count on one hand the fish I've caught on a plopper that wasn't in motion, and I can't fish a walking bait too fast for the smallmouth here most days, not to mention it would be really hard for me to pause my buzzbait and keep it on the surface, a straight retrieve with not pauses is my most productive Slammer retrieve and crawler retrieve too. Maybe it's a regional thing, some things work some places that don't in others, but if you pause a plopper with a following fish here (the rare occasions you can see it coming), more than likely they'll stop, stare, then sink out of sight. I will fish them almost anytime this time of year except when the water is exceptional rough. The rougher the water, the more fish tend to miss it, but they'll miss it even when conditions are good. One of my first good bites on the Smashtail 100 was on a nice overcast day with just a little wind and in shallow water where it should have had no issues connecting with my bait, especially since it was a large fish, but it missed everything and was the only fish to do so that day.
  20. I've had a good bite during a heavy mayfly hatch with the long rod and a Wooly Bugger. A heavy mayfly hatch is one of the hardest things to battle I've found because they're such easy food and the fish get so focused on them.
  21. Wish they'd stop putting lakes from Kansas on the list. Fishing sucks here, go to Table Rock or Lake of the Ozarks instead.
  22. It's all cool until a huge owl picks it up and gets hooked in the foot, takes off and breaks your rod, trust me.
  23. We still have spawning carp here in Kansas too. They seem to spawn all summer long if we have high water though.
  24. Not really. Quality has been fine but top end size hasn't been great. I do blame the weather. Hard to find them when lakes are doubled in size or closed completely in a lot of cases.
  25. Are they fresh mullet or frozen, store bought ones?
