  1. Yes, they can be good at any time of day.
  2. I use a #2 on my bladed jigs. I'd probably go a size or two smaller if I used them to attach a crank or other bait to my line.
  3. We've been getting pretty steady updates about this group at work. It's a pretty serious threat and there's individual people in several major cities that have agreed to carry out violent acts. Obviously saying and doing are 2 different things, but it makes me glad we won't be out there with our son.
  4. I like the Strike King Flipping Tubes T rigged. They're also very effective if you T rig them with no weight and twitch them like a fluke.
  5. I do it with any of the expensive braids or fluoros. No ill effects and it saves me a ton of money.
  6. You can buy Little John blanks and get them painted whatever color you can come up with.
  7. I talk to myself and my dog all the time when I'm fishing by myself. Even my dog looks at me like I'm crazy sometimes.
  8. Around here a 20" smallmouth is in the 4-5 pound range depending on how fat it is, nice fish either way!
  9. I've fished it twice the last two weeks, it's been okay but not great, this cold weather should have it turning on. Tubes, swimbaits, Neds have been the deal. You have to hunt for them quite a bit, but once you find them they like to group up out there. The south riprap and the west island were best Thursday but I'd have gone somewhere else if I'd known it wasn't going to be any better than it was. Make sure you have a comfortable life jacket and don't even bother going if they're calling for 15mph or stronger winds.
  10. I was fishing a jerkbait yesterday and caught a few. It's usually one of my more productive fall baits.
  11. I have a bunch of the STXs in both sizes and haven't had any problems with any of them other than bad hooks.
  12. Last week, I missed a big fish in a tiny pond that I never would have guessed was capable of producing a big fish. This week, I went back armed with my swimbait rod and box. I can literally cast across the pond in any direction from where I was standing. I combed the water with a Dep's 175 first, no dice. Last week she crushed a 5" Stick O that I was reeling in to make another cast right as it broke the surface. With that in mind, I switched to my trusty 7" Slammer. I did several slow straight retrieves with no interest. There's one spot where there's a big laydown and the roots of a big tree growing out into the water so I pitched my Slammer over them. I let it deadstick for probably close to a full minute before I gave it a couple twitches, BAM!! The water erupted! After a brief but intense battle, she was in my grasp. It's been a slow year for swimbaits, especially for big fish, but this one makes up for all the days I've thrown them with no interest. I didn't have a tape, but she rang up at 6 pounds even on the scales. Felt good to get my redemption after the near miss last week. I fished for another half hour but I felt like I'd accomplished what I came for so I decided to pack it in, but not before catching another future pig
  13. I grew up fishing Milford. I like it better than Melvern because I caught big fish out there without even knowing what I was doing. Plus, the wipers, walleyes, and blue cats are a big bonus.
  14. Bulging a spinnerbait is a pretty consistent fall pattern for me every year.
  15. 4.80, and it WAS on a Ned I'm looking for that 5+. I have 3 to my credit now that all rang up a 5 pounds even (what are the odds??). 2 from Milford, 1 from Melvern. A LC Slender Pointer 97MR in Chartreuse Shad, Zoom Trick worm in Watermelon/gold flake on a pro slider head, and a LC Fat BDS Zero in American shad each claimed one. The one from Melvern ate the Fat BDS Zero, which is like 1 3/4" long and 1/4oz, not even as big as a Strike King 1.0. I'm guessing she went for it because there wasn't any room for anything else.
  16. I fished it from the yak for 2 hours a couple weeks ago and caught 4 and missed 3 more. One I missed looked like a pretty nice fish. I was also on part of the lake I've never fished because of how hard it is to get to in a boat.
  17. Are they melted or stuck together? I've had some get misshaped so I let them sit out of the pack for a day or two and they went back to normal. I keep mine in the boat through the summer in triple digit weather and have never had a pack melt, and I have several dozen packs of Zman baits in my boat and a bunch more hanging in the garage, no issues.
  18. I've been fishing custom painted 110 blanks with great success for half the price of a Megabass.
  19. As the salt dissolves they start to float. Stretch them a few times then soak them in water for a hour and the salt will dissolve and they'll float.

Same here, that's the fish of a lifetime in KS and most that size come from closely guarded farm ponds or watersheds.
  21. I'm down for whatever. I love quail hunting but I almost feel bad shooting one they've been so scarce. There's a couple big coveys at one of the places I deer hunt that like to test my heart when I'm walking to or from the stand in the dark. Inside the city limits though so no hunting them there. Use to always hear pheasants cackling while we were fishing Milford but the one time we tried hunting it all we could find were hens.
  22. FWIW, Cabela's shows they have some Bomber Suspending Fat Free Shads in stock online. Found quite a few with a quick Google search.
  23. The pond I fish is hopeless because the owner doesn't want any fish taken out of it. It's fun to catch big bluegills though. I use to fish for them with a flyrod and wooly bugger. Caught a lot of bass doing that too and it's the same deal, a 1-1.5 pound bass or bluegill is a blast on a flyrod.
  24. A supple line, one without "memory" (coils). Most smaller pound test monos will be pretty limp though so you shouldn't have an issue. I normally fish 4lb test with the lure sizes you're talking about and will even go down to 2lb, but you shouldn't really need to unless you're fishing really clear water for skittish fish.
  25. I doubt either is worth enough to be worth the shipping cost of a rod.
