  1. Stretching before and after a long day on the water will really reduce a lot of your soreness the next day in most cases.
  2. I just bought a kayak a little over a month ago, it's a blast. Like others said, there really is no way to explain it to someone who has never done it. I couldn't imagine trying to walk a spook in my yak though, at least until I get a feel for it better. I prefer bottom contact or straight retrieve baits. I wear an inflatable PFD, you're required to wear one here and obviously the inflatables are more comfortable. I like using an anchor so I can move a little ways and fish an area thoroughly before moving on. Take a net with you. I don't normally use a net much, but I never would have guessed how hard it is to land a fish from a kayak with the limited mobility. Enjoy the experience, I know I have really been having fun in mine.
  3. Weird, I have 20lb Kanzen on one of my spinning reels and it's been terrific. Stuff cast a mile and I've had zero issues with breakage or fraying. I've liked it much better than the PP super slick that was on the reel previously. Never tried the heavier sizes on casting gear though.
  4. I use a 1000 size reel pretty regularly. In fact a buddy of mine used 1000 size Stradics to fish for channel cats and wipers. I was in the boat with him when he landed 4 channels over 20 pounds in a single day and a DD wiper on another trip on those little reels. There isn't a bass alive that pulls like a 20lb catfish. OP, if you're in the market, I actually have a 1000 size Shimano Symetre I never use if you're interested.
  5. If someone wants to fish Wolf Creek Thursday and is willing to put gas in my truck I have an empty seat and am about positive I can put you on some good smallies and maybe some wipers.
  6. I've always said if I could just catch a drum on topwater, I could stop fishing, there would be nothing else to accomplish after that. I've caught drum on about everything from jigs and plastics to spinnerbaits and cranks. I catch a ton of them and catfish on my bladed jigs. This one really disappointed me in a tournament last Saturday. I call them dorkfish, like the Bill Engvall skit.
  7. Going through Seibert for naked jigs might be a good option. I pour my own naked swim jig heads when I need weedless swimbait heads.
  8. That's how I feel after dinner at Golden Corral.
  9. I don't get the bad rap walleye get for being poor fighters. They're not smallmouth or trout, but a 18+ inch walleye gives a good fight, at least the ones I catch around here do. I look forward to those telltale heavy headshakes every jerkbait season.
  10. Wait until one blast a buzzbait on you. I've caught 2 channels and a flathead on a buzzbait, biggest explosions I've ever seen. Had a heartbreak last cast of the tournament channel cat on a bladed jig Saturday. This was just a couple weeks ago on one of my bladed jigs.

I use the same thing as A-Jay since he posted a picture on here. It works great and is much better for the fish than jamming a big hole through their lip or hanging them by the gill plate.
  12. If you fish anywhere that gets very cold then don't even think about it. I have a few rods with micro guides that I can't use when it's cold because they jam up with ice so fast I can't make more than a cast or two with them. Overall I like them though because they make the rods fish so much like just a rod blank and reduce the weight of the rod.
  13. Congrats to her! My wife caught her PB smallmouth that was about the same size on a Lucky Craft 0.5. I was shocked those tiny hooks held up but I'm sure glad they did.
  14. That's crazy. I've had 5 Maxxums on 4 different boats and never had one break like that.
  15. I caught a bunch of fish on a 168 S Waver and a Deps SS 175 last winter, couple on a 6" Bull Shad, even 1 on a 7" Slammer, all in Kansas. No big fish, but we don't have many of those anyways.
  16. Every time Hootie post a picture of him with a fish I think of this. Great fish Hootie! I'd deal with those temps if we could get that wind. 60's don't do much good with the 40mph straight winds we had yesterday.
  17. I catch some of my biggest fish of the year every year during the winter. My biggest 5 fish limit ever in Kansas was in February. Early March, you can kind of tell it was snowing at the time. January 20th Same January 20th, cold and raining/snowing March 7th, weather was more like the "winter" in south Texas, low 50's. April 18th, 39* for a high with 30mph north winds April 4th Lots more where those came from. We have real winter in Kansas, but I fish through it every year.
  18. Both lines of baits work great. I've found a spot in the boat for almost all the Havoc baits I've tried.
  19. I make one with a swinging football head and screwlock hook just to get a bait I can fish through timber easier. Works well through any emergent weeds that don't jam up the blade too.
  20. I had a fat Table Rock spot puke up a still wiggling and ticked off salamander in the boat once. Had a largemouth do the same with baby painted turtle also. I didn't try to give either of them back to the fish though.
  21. I use an Avid 6' 2" M/XF for jerkbaits and poppers. It works excellent for those two applications.
