I'm a graduate of the school of 'Show Them Something Different' and quickly working a jerk bait in the fall is something guys in my neck of the woods don't do often.  Soft or hard, I find them to be excellent producers until the water temp. drops below 50.  I know I'm not the only one, but I thought I'd give the rest of you a heads up on a productive bait for the fall.

Must be a Chicagoland thing. I throw Jerkbaits more than I through cranks in the fall.

 

This is my favorite season to use them. I have more luck with hard plastic opposed to soft, not sure why that is.....

What little success I have had this fall, have come off if LC Pointers. I'm with RW, one of my favorite techniques to fish regardless!!!

I love jerkbait fishing but I always have better success in the spring then I do in the fall. Go figure.

Especially when the line takes off in the middle of a 30 second pause in frigid water. I think it's better than a topwater strike!

I was fishing a jerkbait yesterday and caught a few. It's usually one of my more productive fall baits. 

My favorite technique and I now have 2 rods dedicated to it. I'm curious how you guys fish a soft plastic jerkbait through the fall. Don't they fall a bit to fast for 45-55 degree water?

I've always found everything is more active in the cool fall waters so a speedy return on your jerkbait to keep it off the bottom is no problem. Fluke Jr and Storm Wildeye Swim Shad all day during spring and fall for this guy.  crank it up, let it drop, crank it up, let it drop.  That's my go to classic right there.

Late yesterday afternoon to early evening caught 4 on Smithwick Rattlin Roague baby bass Jerkbait. Just bought new jerkbait rod, one of my favorite ways to fish also.

I started with a 2'-4' suspending lure and caught nothing, swithched to a 0-2' floating bait and game was on.

Had a several misses also.

I  picked up some McSticks recently and was going to give jerkbaits a try for the first time. I just need to decide on what size line, I think I'm going with Sunline Super Natural. I'd like to use it for both jerkbaits and topwater. Recommendations?

I'm going to heed your advice and break out my jerkbaits. I'm still trying to figure out how to have success fishing them. And I've been frustrated by them in the past. But I have a couple of Lucky Craft Pointer SP's that aren't doing any good still sitting in their packages.

I have been using sunline super natural on my Jerkbait/topwater Rod. I do switch to fluro in the winter as I will not be throwing too waters for a few months. Then I'll go back to mono on that combo around late May. Then switch to fluro again around now (November). Spray some kvd line and lure on jt. It's also cheap so respool often.

Normally I catch the majority of my fish on jerkbaits in the fall, but this year it's hardly getting touched. I've caught more on hollow belly swim baits and crankbaits.
