  1. The biggest bass I've ever caught in Kansas was from a 30 acre lake that looks like a big cow pond. Several states state record bass came from from ponds and pits, including our state record of almost 12 pounds, it's completely possible.
  2. Does anyone have a travel rod I could borrow for our Florida trip this week? Looking for a spinning rod, either medium or medium light that will break down small enough to fit into a suitcase, not telescoping though.
  3. Those baitfish sound like golden shiners. They like to jump like that and they happen pretty often when someone dumps their bait bucket in the lake instead of on the bank like you're supposed to. I've caught them on little cranks and inline spinners over a foot long. They like weedy areas too, another reason they come to mind.
  4. Like I said, Hillsdale was at the top of its game today. 2 for real 18" keepers, 1 on a War Eagle spinnerbait, 1 on a Cavitron. Biggest 5 went 12lbs 2oz. I've got videos uploaded, I'll post it when they're all uploaded.
  5. That's how most of my Rapala balsa baits end up looking, minus the Shad Raps.

Get some swimbait hooks with a centering pin, it helps you line them up straight so they swim right. I've done well with them on a football head also.

I catch lots of fish on them rigged a few different ways. No idea why people have problems with them, I have several colors in 4 and 3 inch sizes and have zero problems with them. When I get around white bass, which I do alot, I rig them with a belly treble. This bait has over 20 bass, several white bass, a couple crappie, and a channel cat to it's credit and obviously has plenty of life left to it.
  8. After my day at Hillsdale, you may want to rethink that

However, even though it caught a 7lb catfish, I wondered if it was strictly a numbers lure, something that wouldn't catch big bass? No problem if it was, I am a numbers fisherman, but the mantra of "Big Baits+Big Bass" was in my head. It made sense that such a small lure wouldn't attract a larger fish. So last Saturday morning I am out fishing, having already caught 3 bass in the 12" - 14" range on little Neddy, when this gal suddenly shows up near my boat. She was kind of brutish, with a big mouth & she told me that the Ned rig will catch big bass no matter what I think. I was a bit taken aback, but since she looked like she might win in a fight with me, I didn't argue with her. I figured it best we just go our separate ways, but before we did, I snapped a few photos of her... She weighed 7-6 and I could have fit 6 dozen Ned rigs in her mouth...
  10. White bass are very small cousins of striped bass if you've ever fished for them, they behave a little alike. White bass love baitfish of all kinds, craws, nightcrawlers, leaches, anything really. A suspending jerkbait is another bait you might try, I catch tons of them fishing for smallmouth with jerkbaits in the spring.
  11. I saw that picture on Micah's FB. That's a great fish anywhere and an absolute monster for SMP! Looks like she's just getting ready to drop her eggs.
  12. The largest Luck E Strike Freak gets way down there. Haven't fished one yet but the Duo G87 20A is supposed to be a super deep diver that's just over that 3" body size. The largest Hot Lips Express bait is another one just over the 3" mark and probably one of, if not the deepest running baits out there without getting into the oversized baits.
  13. I'm probably going to try to fish Hillsdale in the wind Monday to maybe help everyone out a bit for Thursday. If anyone cares to join me in the frustration, I have an empty back seat.
  14. Nice fish! I've only been there once way too early in the year and still did pretty well. It's just a bit far to drive to bank fish for me.
  15. Same here, although I've gotten to where I leave hooks in the package they come in and store in the step up to the front deck in my boat. Hooks are something I need easy access to and leaving them in the original pack makes it easier to determine the size/make hook I'm getting.
  16. Please read the forum FAQ's. I have a question about the Kicktail, Banjo Minnow, Doug Hannon Snake, Walking Worm lures, or the North American Fishing club Do a search on the name. There's plenty of posts about it, which will answer your question. LOCKDOWN!!
  17. Okay, so looking at that map we'll be staying about 30 minutes from that canal so that's not at all out of the question. I'm not going to be able to bring the full arsenal. In fact I'll probably be limited to a single travel spinning rod and reel with maybe a 3700 box or two with some gear. From what I've been reading they seem to like smaller baits with either lots of flash or color to them and bass jigs and plastics are basically a waste of time. Anything else I should know about them? Are they like largemouth in that they feed better early and late in the day or does it really matter? Is there anywhere in the area I might have a chance to run into a snakehead? Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it.
  18. A 3-4 pound white bass is insanely huge for a white. I've caught a ton of them in my life and have only seen a handful that size, can't imagine a whole school that big. A topwater walking bait like a Super Spook Jr or Zara Puppy will usually get them fired up. They're hard to get to bite when the flow is slow as a general rule. If you get a good rain look for places that offer current breaks near fast water, especially near obstructions that block them from being able to go any further upstream like a dam or waterfall. While the water is slow, live bait is probably going to be by far your best option to get them to bite though.
  19. Don't feel bad, I never had a bite the first tournament I ever fished and I've blanked my fair share of times since then.
  20. I had a feeling it was either that or you accidentally hit a 9 instead of a 0 (10ozs instead of 19ozs). I just couldn't pass up the chance to give you a hard time Congrats on the new PB, now go get a bigger one!
  21. Sufix 832 on casting Seaguar Kanzen on spinning
  22. Learn to watch your line and those deep hooked fish will happen far less often with any kind of soft plastic.
  23. Yes, it's a lot smaller than I'd hoped. I was thinking something the size of a stick worm with large, bulbous ends that would create lots of action on a wacky rig. What I got is the size of a finesse worm with little nubs on each end with really no extra action that I can see and too light to fish without a weighted jighead on a wacky rig. I've caught some fish with them on a drop shot, but I'm pretty bad at dropshotting so that's really not saying much for them.
  24. I have very little experience with the Orra but the President is pretty tough to beat at that price point. As long as you aren't specifically targeting muskie and only catching them as an incidental catch, you should be fine with a 30 size President. If you're planning on fishing larger baits just for muskie you'll want at least the 35 if not the 40 size, but that's going to be big and cumbersome for bass fishing.
