  1. Today did not go as well as last time. Bright sky, minimal wind, and crystal clear water. We caught about 10 apiece. My partner catching the biggest about 4 lbs. Almost netted a bigger bass while nettin the 4 lber. that was chasin. I plan on going tomorrow also as it looks like the wind will be a little better and some clouds in the mix. Thinkin about launchin at white oak but never been there before. Is there concrete under your tires still on the boat trailer? I am not even sure where it is at.
  2. I am going to look at tidbits on the way for a pointer or something similar. Thanks for the tip ***atic.
  3. Headed out tomorrow. I have a spook tied on along with a weightless fluke, spinnerbait, Texas rig w/senko, ribbit. Don't have a pointer. have to stop and see if tidbits has anything similar. I will be keying in on wind blown grass edges and points.
  4. Thanks for the tips guys. In the future I will have a different colored spinner handy and a fluke handy. What would be the best presentation for the fluke in that situation? My first instinct is weightless for a slow fall and jerk it along slowly.
  5. I have never caught anything remotely close to some of the reports i have read here but, I had what I considered a good day yesterday so i will post it up. Went to toro and got there about 0700. I had 4 3lbers and about 4 little guys. My partner did the same except one of his was 7lb. 2oz. topwater with a ribbit frog only produced a few slaps. My partner caught some with c rig. I caught a couple with a T rig. Not much till noon when the wind picked up a little. best fishing was a spinnerbait on the wind blown grass edges and points. A couple times as i was pulling one in on a spinnerbait i could see 3 more following. Repeat cast and they would just follow it. I tried varying retrieve..stopping and starting. letting it fall and couldn't get em. What would you guys do in a situation like that? What should I follow up with when a bass follows a spinner but won't take it? I don't know. I read the reports on here and what others are catching. i must be doing something wrong or a lot wrong. I am still learnin and won't give up though. I am stuborn like that!
  6. I haven't been fishing but for a few years. What is a pointer??
  7. Texas side site #7 is where I launch. First public launch on the texas side coming from the dam. Should be good for another feet or two. I didn't make it out today. Woke up to a flat on the trailer and then something else came up. i guess it wasn't meant to be. I will be out tomorrow. Don't know where I am gonna fish yet. I had to be towed twice this year. cell is 337-353-8960.
  8. North south lane on Louisiana side by toro is a minefield. I fished Monday and did not do well. Don't know why but, it looks like conditions have changed from what I am reading. We threw topwater, cranks, spinners, c rigs, etc... south bank of housen, Mill creek, Indian creek, and a few spots in between that looked good. I will return Sunday and Monday for sure from what I am hearing. I am in a 99 Triton TR20 that is white. I will be the one idling while everyone flies by me!!!
  9. Lack of vegetation makes it totally different. Especially the color of the water. Whole different ballgame than Toledo which I plan to keep fishin till I can't launch.
  10. I pretty much only fish Toledo but, I better start looking for something else pretty soon if we don't get rain.. Vernon lake is OK. Anyone here fish Caney?
  11. Thanks for the tip Catt. I like to fish Housen and Toro but, am not sure if I can get there safely from where I am launching. On a sidenote the Fort Polk bassmasters tournament that usually happens in a couple weeks has been cancelled according to their website.
  12. I haven't been out in a while. Tried to launch at Pirates cove yesterday. Couldn't do it. a bad drop off and i only have a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. Launched at Site 7 on texas side no problems. Didn't do much fishing just ran the boat as i did some work to it.
  13. Thanks for the information guys. I think I am squared away now. I just need to make up my mind before I go what area I want to fish and keep the running to a minimum until it comes back up. That was the first time I have hit something in the boat lane and it woke me up real quick. It's not worth the risk to me. Also..this is on the topic of a boat launch report. http://nwlouisiana.ksla.com/news/environment/boat-launches-north-south-end-toledo-bend-closed/46508
  14. Thanks guys. Pirates cove if I wanna fish Louisiana side and site #7 on the texas side if I wanna fish texas side. That is the first one I come to isn't it Catt coming across from the dam? I launched one time a long time ago at the bridge in 6 mile. It's a pretty good clip from my house thoug going around the south end then north. I am not sure where buckeye and big bass launches are at though. I am starting to get a little nervous about the stumps in the boat lane as i hit one last weekend but no damage. I figure the less i run the less likely I am to hit one. I pretty much stick to south of pendleton bridge anyways. As far as a launch report i can say that if it gets any lower i would not use the Army rec launch
  15. Home projects have had me off of the water lately. Went out today but, got a late start 0600. Launched at Army rec site and fished toro area. lots of grass. topwater produced early. backed off the shallows @ 1000hrs. and fished near deep water close to grass 15 to 25. I got blanked after the topwater bite. I mean not one hit. left @1230 due to no wind and a lot of heat. Which reminds me.....One lane is closed at the ramp at the army rec. The useable one is close to not being able to use as I had to let the rear axle of the trailer go off the edge of the concrete to get it loaded. I need to find another launch till this lake level comes up. Any suggestions?
  16. I have a HB 798SI and have the transducer mounted on my Terrova. No need to sit in the back. It can be done!
  17. I have one and if it broke and warranty was out I would buy another. I get a lot of strange looks when i am standing on the back deck fishing a spot on spot lock in a strong wind. I also like the track feature.
  18. Turned out to be the ECM in case anyone has a similar experience. After checking everything out and finding nothing wrong except for the way it ran and stopped I drove 3 1/2 hrs. one way to the person that built my powerhead. He had an ecm on another engine that he could plug in to see if it was the problem. Bad news but, at least I know what the problem is now. That is gonna put a dent in my wallet!!
  19. Had my powerhead rebuilt a few months back. Excellent rebuild and he did a great job. Now it seems other things are happening. Couple weeks ago a switchbox went out on me leaving me stranded on Toledo Bend. Got that fixed. Took off yesterday and after about a mile it slowly dropped in rpm's and died. Seemed like a fuel delivery issue. I just started fishing as I am getting frustrated. when I got ready to troll back in I decided to check it out. It starts just fine and then dies. I can get it to keep running for a little while if I give it some throttle but, only did that once. Don't wanna screw anything up. Yesterday I put a fuel pressure indicator on it. Reads right at 36 when pump turns on. Cycled it back on and started it immediatly and it starts, idles, and dies before the pump ever turns off maintaining the 35 to 36 psi. I also pinched off the return line at the regulator so it gets maximim pressure. Still dies. I checked for water in fuel. None. drained the vst canister which was cleaned out on rebuild. Clean and no water. Plugs are good and every cylinder gets fire. I need to rule out the kill switch and ignition switch but do not know the procedure. If anyone knows how to do this I would appreciate it. Then I can rule out those two items also.
  20. Another lake wind advisory for today. I'm starting to get frustrated.
  21. Finally got a day I can go and lake wind advisory in effect today. 10 to 20 mph with gusts to near 30 mph. I think I will just watch the airing of last weekend on ESPN2 this morning instead. Lake wind advisory is where I draw the line on whether or not to make the drive from leesville. It just isn't worth the gas with a forecast like that!!
  22. Don't forget quality seals.
  23. I see you are in central Louisiana and fish the Bend also. I can reccomend someone to you that just built my powerhead if you need him.
  24. I have been throwin it for a couple years now and always have one one a rod. The paint doesn't seem to be as durable as others but, maybe thats because I throw it more than the others.
  25. Headed out tomorrow. Haven't been in a while due to home renovations. Lookin forward to a day on the Bend!
