  1. The best day I ever had Oneida Lake was sunny, hot and flat calm and the hot bite lasted well after noon, only after a breeze picked up a bit. Just sat on/near structure with a rod in your hand waiting................waiting............until a small boil appears on the surface within casting distance. Then you fire your lure (Super Spooks for us that weekend) and try to hit that spot exactly, if you did it would only take a twitch or two and they were all over it. Waiting to cast was crucial. If you tried to fish while waiting for the boils you would waste too much time reeling to make the cast. The little frenzy would be over. That weekend we would have a boil within casting distance every two or three minutes, and on one shoreline there were boils as far as you could see in both directions for hours. So if your fishing are schooling, and they are chasing bait to the surface, watch for this.
  2. Even the best best life jacket in the world won't help you get back in the boat though, which you need to do quickly in cold water. I have found (by summer swimming) that I can get back in my boat using the outboard as an elevator. If that isn't an option, I'm not sure I could.
  3. That's the one I always used too, just never knew the name for it. I always just called it a slip knot
  4. I like to drift with the current out on the main river and dropshot the changing bottom contours. I just drop over the side of the boat and let it hit bottom. Then it is just a series of lift/drops lift/drops until a fish hits then all hell breaks lose trying to get them in the boat. lol The wind can mess with you doing this though, how it slows or speeds up the boat. I like the west river the best. Gotta love fishing spots where you get world class views like the mist of the falls.
  5. You should talk to the ice fishing crowd. There are many there that believe panfish numbers are dwindling because of over harvesting. lol
  6. I use a whole box of mothballs in my boat every winter.
  7. I'm sure it was an extremely isolated incident. That's the only conclusion they could come up with seeing there was no evidence of any leakage.
  8. Of course. I kinda had them wrapped around my finger for the next few trucks I bought too. lol
  9. Only problem I ever had with a Tacoma was with my '96. Got it new, and while heading to the Adirondak Mountains about an hour and a half away from home my manual transmission let loose. The truck only had 4,900 miles on it. It was discovered that the tranny never had lube in it, only the factory assembly grease they had on the gears. I thought it was amazing it lasted that long without lube. Had the truck and boat towed back home, grabbed a relatives truck and made my way to our destination, then the next day I had the best day of largemouth fishing (weight-wise) I ever had.
  10. Yes, every year there is open water less than an hour and a half away from me, Seneca Lake. It never freezes due to depth, and I have buddies that fish it from boats all winter long (although mainly for perch). I get invites now and then but have never taken the offers.
  11. You need skill to put yourself in the position to be lucky.
  12. I write the date on all my spools to know when I buy them. I used up the last of an 8 pound spool labelled "2008" this past season with no ill effects.
  13. At least he was wearing safety orange.
  14. At least you have a two person membership, I am the sole member in the Vanish fan club. lol
  15. It's just like clockwork here. If for some reason it is not delivered the day it is supposed to be, it is the day before more often than the day after.
  16. I spoke too soon, there is a single male out on the feeder now.
  17. -8.5º when I got up to plow this morning. Up to -6.5º now.
  18. I had two different Tacoma's, a '96 and a '99. Both of them towed very well, and the '99 towed both my Stratos Fish-n-Ski and then my Stratos 201. The 201 was a very heavy boat, but the Toyota towed that boat all over this state, even through the Adirondak Mountains.
  19. Got these shots a couple years ago. Never could get them to come to the feeders, although I heard not many do. It's been kinda sparse this year, not even sure I have seen a single cardinal this winter, and usually we are infested with them.
  20. I'd much rather be outside on a calm 0 degree day than a windy 30 degree day. Just saying..........
  21. Mine will be used again tomorrow. I picked a really good year to buy one!
