Top 10 Baits/Lures
cjensen I agree completely with you about the Roadrunner. In a recent post I said a Roadrunner jighead (1/8 or 1/4 oz.) with a 3" grub was one of my go to ways of catching numbers of fish. It is my favorite Crappie bait as well, in a variety of weights and colors.

Tough topwater situation
Welcome to the Forum. I like to use a Spook in that situation. Sometimes the walking type baits work when the others won't. Good luck.

Newbie attempts baitcasting - and lives!
Amen! It is when you get a little lazy, tired, or cocky (I can get get that extra 15'...) that you catch something on the boat or a tree and....surgery is required. Just one of the joys of fishing. Good luck.

Anybody ever caught a bass on a spinnerbait?
My guess is your sarcasm will limit the amount of help you will get here.

Anybody ever caught a bass on a spinnerbait?
Spinnerbaits are not one of my favorite baits. I prefer a slower presentation, but I have caught some nice fish on them. Once I learned some of the subtilties of the technique I have more confidence in it, eg., pausing the retrieve after making contact with anything. If you go to the Tips and Tactics section of this site there are some really good pointers. There are many members of this site that use spinnerbaits as there primary baits and I'm sure you will get some feedback from them. Good luck. I have to learn to type faster. I told you there would be feedback ;D

Boat Planing Question
I fished out of a 14' V hull for years. I had an 18 HP on it that was just not quite enough. A 25 HP would be a much better choice IMO. Good luck.

Some bait advice
There are a number of good articles in the Fishing Articles section of this site. I would start there. Jigs and pastics are my favorite baits by a large margin.Learn the basics and then find what works for you. Good luck.

Manufacturers will ignore the next WR angler if...
If the bass was caught on a "drop shot' rig: 7'6" heavy action flipping stick, 1 oz. bell sinker, #1 treble hook, 2" white grub.

Some of you guys have no clue!
Mattlures I have stayed out of the conversation because I don't have enough information to judge the man's character or motivation. Some have offered opinions that I do not agree with, but that does not mean they are clueless. This site has over 4000 members who bring many different points of view to the discussion. We are all united by our love of bass fishing, but we come with a variety of worldviews and life experience. I very much enjoy the exchange of ideas, as long as it is done with respect. Just my .02

Earthworm is a TV star!
Thanks for the links. I really enjoyed seeing the guys fishing. I had never seen the show, but will make an effort to find it in the future. I wonder how many other "local experts" are on this site? I'm guessing quite a few.

Being in the DOG HOUSE
My wife is also my fishing partner (30 years) and has more patience than I do, but I still can find a way into trouble. A few years ago we went to a friend's 50th birthday party at a gated weekend community that had several lakes. The topic of fishing came up and the birthday boy said there were plenty of fish and that he didn't mind if went. I spent a couple of hours night fishing from the bank with the boyfriend of one of the other guests. We had a great time catching a few nice fish. The gal he was seeing dumped him the next day. Although Ed (the BD boy) got a kick out of us leaving his party to go fishing, my wife and several others did not think it was funny. It is still a sensitive topic that is best not discussed.

CJB's Coldwater Challenge
RW What is interesting is that it was the winning pattern on that day, even though you can bet there were others using deeper, slower presentations.

CJB's Coldwater Challenge
RoLo I think your right. What can we learn from this exercise? The location did not surprise me, but a fast lipless crank did. I would have thought something slower would work better. My conclusion is that a bass sunning itself in relatively warm water will sometimes react to a fast moving bait, even if the water temp. is less than ideal. I'm sure there is more to learn from this. What do y'all think?

Newbie saying HI
Welcome I enjoyed your introduction and look forward to your input.

are you obsessed with bass
Amen. For me there is a spiritual awareness that comes from being out on the water. I don't think it is blasphemous. I believe He created nature for us to enjoy, and what better way to enjoy it than fishing?

Instinct or Science 2 Prize Challenge!
CJB I deleted my other post, so I may have changed my mind. 1. 3/8 oz. pumpkinseed colored skirted jig w/ matching craw trailer. 2. Pitching 3. 3 feet 4. Cove in Northeast end of lake, near back of cove but close to deeper water (25'+/-) 5. Tight to wood cover Based on water temp, barometric pressure, water color, time of year, personal experience. I think maybe a combination of both science and instinct. :

Instinct or Science?
Great thread guys. I don't think it is coincidence that many of you great instinctive fishermen have spent many hours on the water studying the habits of your prey, as well as reading everything available on the subject. I agree with Paparock's old sensei. It is when learning becomes instinctive that excellence happens. Raul, you are a wise man and I love reading your posts. I think you are right (as usual) that it is the application of knowledge that separates the men from the boys-in fishing and life.
