  1. Alpha Male your post is classic. In any discussion of line there is always at least one who will contend that all who don't agree with his/her/their position really isn't smart enough to make an informed decision. Do you really believe that all of us who use fluorocarbon are simply fooled by the marketing? Give me a break! I have used many different lines over a lot of years. I like many of the properties of fluorocarbon. I respect the opinions of those who do not care for fluorocarbon. Please give those of us who do the same respect.
  2. You are not missing much unless you are looking for a cheap dose of fat and salt. If you factor in the consequences of eating this @#*! it really isn't all that cheap.
  3. This pretty well sums up my thoughts. As I've said before, it works for me.
  4. I have been lifting for a couple of years. My goal has always been fitness rather than pushing the envelope to see how much weight I can move. Even though I am an old guy, I still let ego write checks my body can't cash at times. I will never make the 1000 lbs mark, but I am stronger and healthier than I've been in years. It is definitely worth the time and effort.
  5. I have come to the conclusion that I don't give a rip about stretch when it comes to fluorocarbon. I like the way it works. That is all.
  6. An interesting sidebar to this is the way networks are adding commercial time on syndicated shows. They are increasing the speed of play-back slightly to allow for a couple of extra minutes of commercials. It is hard to see the difference. The audio is a bit more noticeable. I don't think the bean counters care much...
  7. I rarely watch anything that is not recorded on my DVR, except sports. It is a very short list of programs that I record, and a much shorter list that I will watch if I can't skip the commercials. My DVR allows me to skip 30 seconds at a time. It is not unusual to have 4 or 5 minutes of commercials between programming on many channels. I find it interesting that the dumber the program and the less desirable the time slot, the greater the number of commercials.
  8. Like the others I have never had a bad experience with TW. The customer service folks that I have dealt with have always impressed with their knowledge of the products offered and their willingness to help. My guess is there is more to the story than what is posted. In any case this is not the way this site works. If you have a problem with customer service take it up the chain of command.
  9. I lost a good friend a couple of years ago when he fell from his boat while fishing. No PFD. I nearly drowned when I fell off a friends boat in cold water. No PFD. I am a good swimmer. My friend was a great swimmer and in great shape. When fishing alone or in cold water if you are not wearing some sort of PFD you are gambling with your life. Any time you are running at speed, same thing. Some of us get lucky, others don't. I wear an inflatable belt-always unless I am wearing something better.
  10. My Return On Investment (ROI) related to fishing is very high as I calculate it. The joy I get from fishing is NOT dependent on high numbers of fish, or even monster fish. Those are just icing on the cake. I love the time on the water, the gear, the conversation, the solitude, the communion with nature, and the thrill of the hunt. As A-Jay said, life is short. I do not know or care what my cost per fish is, just like I don't know or care what my cost per meal is. The dollar amounts spent has varied over the years based on income, but fishing and eating are not really optional IMO.
  11. Yes.
  12. I am with J on this; when there is a long line of boats at the ramp is no time to learn backing skills. Having a partner who can handle the trailer is a valuable thing that makes life easier for all involved. Do it a few times and it won't be anything to worry about.
  13. Any bait with treble hooks is an acceptable choice in my opinion. Generally speaking I will use copolymer for top water and other treble hooked baits. As others have said mono worked for me for years. I just think there are better choices available now for most applications.

Spieth could have crumbled over the last couple of holes yesterday. He managed to keep his head and if I were a betting man, I would put my money on him. I probably won't have a chance to see today's finish, but it should be fun to watch.
  15. Red Earth you are a funny guy. A simile is a metaphor. It may be that stretches like a rubberband technically is a simile, but in the broader context it changes nothing. Suggesting a resemblance between Big Game and rubberbands is metaphorical. It simply makes the point that some of us don't like the line for contact baits, because of the way it feels to us. What part of that don't you understand?
  16. Red Earth your insistence on a literal reading of "it stretches like a rubberband" misses the point. Most of us understand the use of metaphor. Metaphor is a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance. Read that slowly and tell me what you don't understand. That is not the speading of fallacy. It is the use of language to make a point. The idea that those of us who find BG unacceptable are brainwashed is arrogant, offensive, and unknowing. So there is no misunderstanding, I mean that literally.
  17. Catt you are one of the guys that I know uses Big Game. I have great respect for your opinion and that is why I am careful when I give my opinion about Big Game. Many things in fishing are subjective. Arguing about what is "best" is part of the fun. Thanks for your input.
  18. As I said in an earlier post, there are many fine fishermen who swear by Big Game. I do not like the way it feels. That has nothing to do with aggressive marketing or lack of understanding. I am an intelligent man and an experienced fisherman. I have used Big Game many times. I much prefer fluorocarbon or copolymers for any contact baits. Why is it that we can't share our opinions without being nasty about it?
  19. Red Earth you can use what you want. You can believe what you want. I think you are wrong about many things, but I am not disrespectful about it. I find Big Game to have way too much stretch. Nothing false about that. If you can't engage in civil discussion, maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself.
  20. I agree. There are many fine fishermen who swear by Big Game. Compared to YZ and CXX there is a huge amount of stretch. It is cheap, so it won't cost much to give it a try. It is not for me.
  21. Nitro I am impressed that a mature man can still make a buck in the underwear modeling world. It may give us sexy older guys an opportunity to pay for our fishing habit. I can send pictures if you want to sponsor me!
  22. My usual response is, "that was a monster!" It is possible that some of those fish were not really monsters, based the on actual numbers of monsters caught...but lost fish can be as big as you want! A couple of years ago I lost a real trophy fish at the boat.I just sat and groaned for a few minutes before I could resume fishing.
