  1. Great line. I like fluorocarbon, but if I had to use only one line, it would be CXX. FWIW braid would be a distant third on that list, with or without a leader.
  2. That picture is of a Colorado Rockies fan...the Cards do not have the market cornered on pretension!
  3. It has everything to do with winning. The Cardinal Way has worked for a long time. It may not be the only way, but it is the right way for us. Not everyone is willing or able to play according to our code. That's OK. The foundation of our success is built on that code, and that is what offends.
  4. As a life-long Cardinals fan the allegations are disturbing. I have carefully read and listened to those who know or think they know what is going on. My conclusion is someone in the organization is guilty of something. I will wait until the facts are known before rushing to judgment. It is interesting how a winning tradition stirs the ire and resentment of some. We may little too proud of our long history of winning and the positive role the club has played in our community and MLB. I think we can be forgiven for that. Haters gonna hate...

They can go play golf now. Chicago played like champions and earned the Cup. Great series.
  6. That's funny Mike. I am at the other end of the spectrum. I could not care less about color, but that many do is good for the tackle bidness!
  7. Flyfisher I have read with interest your story of changing careers and advancing your education. You have achieved something to be proud of, and I wish you much success. Well done!

The game last night was sure fun to watch, regardless of stick material or beards!

He's a bean counter. He may also have them using plastic sticks so as not to damage their "young, attractive" faces which might hurt the bottom line. Lord save us from bean counters.

The games so far have certainly been exciting. I love the speed and skill both teams play with. Chicago just doesn't quit. Come on TB!
  11. I use both. I prefer baitcast for all but the lightest line and baits. I could get by with only spinning though. It is really only a matter of preference.
  12. That is what smart phones are for!
  13. If you fish very long or very much you will injure fish. A fish with a damaged eye may live long and prosper. One kept and eaten, no chance. I agree that care should be taken when releasing fish, but I am not going to remove hooks in an attempt to eliminate injury. Fishing is a blood sport...

Anyone watching? These two teams are really amazing. If you want to see hockey played at the highest level, this series is worth a look. I would like to root for the Hawks, but I have been a Blues fan too long to do so. The Blues are to the Hawks like the Cubs are to the Cardinals: They are great rivals, but you know who is going to break your heart in the end. I will take the Lightning in seven!
  15. You're right that we live in an unpredictable and often dangerous world. The chances of being injured going and coming from the lake are higher than the chances of needing a life preserver while fishing, yet I came close to drowning twice before I resolved to wear one every time out. Those numbers meant nothing to my friend Greg who drowned a few years ago while fishing alone without a pfd. I wear my seat belt and keep my vehicles in good shape also. My point is taking proper precautions to protect against these things lowers the risk and is the right thing to do.
  16. I have had a couple of times at night at the ramp, and a couple of other times while fishing with my wife in isolated spots that I have felt/been threatened. I now carry in these situations. This may not work for everyone, but I am not going to be in a situation where I cannot protect myself or my family.
  17. For most of us experience is the only way to learn such things! Getting good advice and taking it are two very different things. One thing is sure, paying for repairs is a no brainer...
  18. Speed is the key. That is a function of rod length and technique. Power a natural result of these.
  19. I agree with letting the fish decide. Lighter is sometimes better with jigs and beavers. Pitching to shallow cover I almost always start light (1/8 or 3/16) with beavers in heavy stuff.
  20. Slone I just upgraded to the Moto X a couple of months ago from an older Galaxy. I like the Motorola. The camera is much better. The screen and graphics on all the newer phones are amazing. They all have features that are very cool. IPhone users are loyal, but having learned on Android I will stay there.
  21. About 2.95 in So. Illinois.
  22. I agree with all the positive feedback. I would add one thing. I understand that the idea of therapy is uncomfortable. I also understand that anxiety and depression are often related to unresolved issues in our past. Therapy can help us identify and come to terms with these things. Adding medications to the mix without examining ourselves is often a recipe for failure. Good luck and may God bless you.
  23. Roger I like the way you don't think! I'm with you brother. I am fairly sure it is less than 1000:1, at least on most days. It has never occurred to me to count...
  24. einscodek the research is very clear that selective harvest of smaller bass is a proven method of managing for larger fish. When combined with slot limits all the better.
