  1. Learning to cast a baitcaster while fishing at night is a line cutting blowup waiting to happen. Getting comfortable with a baitcaster takes time and practice. Make sure it is adjusted properly, use a little heavier weight until you get used to casting, and practice. With a little time and effort you will be night fishing with confidence. Good luck.
  2. Good story. A relationship with a woman is fraught with danger. There are many of those hazards along the way. A man simply does his best...good luck.
  3. I don't really want either. Whether something is worth the price depends on many things. That something is arguably the best doesn't mean it's worth the price. I have to make my decisions based on value and budget, and I do understand there is a difference between price and value. While a Yeti cooler may be the best, but it is certainly not worth the cost to me.
  4. Sorry to hear it my friend. Good luck with the cleanup.
  5. This site has a strict policy against political commentary. It is posts like this that make that necessary. And for the record, I am far to the right of center politicly.
  6. Very nice vocal. Well done.
  7. Hang in there. Life can be challenging, but I believe God is in the mix. Good luck.
  8. They played well and deserve the championship. I like the way the women play. The men could learn a thing or two about competing without all the drama. Kind of ironic that the girls play tougher than the men, and whine a lot less.
  9. Bosn your data is absolutely correct. There is good reason that all credible sources recommend #4 BUCKSHOT or bigger for defensive loads. Birdshot is great for small game. It is not for dangerous predators, whether four legged or two.

If the occasional snout or sphincter is the worst thing we eat in processed and restaurant food we are lucky. I don't eat hotdogs often and typically eat all beef when I do. I like to limit my offal to one species at a time.
  11. I am with A-Jay. You have looked at your situation, attitude, and behavior, coming to the conclusion that you don't like it. Do something about it! Stop talking (whining) about it, get off your *** and get on with it. Your father understandings this principle and so do you. Now go get a job, some physical exercise and catch some fish!
  12. Spool tension is one of those things that can, in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, be adjusted to suit the situation and the casting style of the user.
  13. AdamsEye using a good braking system for beginners makes the process of learning more enjoyable. Backing off on spool tension and brakes is a natural progression that happens as skill and confidence grows. I learned to swim by being tossed off the dock. It was effective, but I don't recommend it.
  14. What type of braking you go with is a personal preference for most. I would also suggest going with a decent quality reel. There are many available for around $100. The idea of learning without brakes is just silly in my opinion. Yes, those of us who have used baitcasters for a while could do without brakes, and when pitching I don't use much braking if any. Being able to dial a reel in so I don't have to worry much about my thumb is a wonderful thing though. I can drive a car without power steering, antilock brakes, an automatic transmission, or air conditioning. That is the way I learned. I have no desire to do without these things, and would not advise anyone learn to drive without them either.
  15. Yep. I am confident in my ability to defend myself and property, but there is nothing good that can come from any interaction with an idiot. I may wave in the fashion A-Jay mentioned or yell friendly suggestions of where else he can go, but ignoring is the best option.
  16. I would bet that it's a spot.
  17. If you are not able to fish at night the above advice is as good as it gets IMO. Deep structure has long been a favorite, but shallow grass can be amazing even in the hottest weather. I learned this lesson fishing on a day when the temperature was well above 100 and we could not find them deep. I was ready to call it a day when my partner, who grew up fishing on the river suggested going up into the creek. I thought he was crazy, and told him so. We had one of my best days ever on that lake. Stay cool!
  18. Every time I fish very long with braid I ask myself a similar question, "Why would anyone use this stuff when quality fluorocarbon, copolymer, and mono lines are available?" To each his own...
  19. I don't really think you can have a seriuos discussion about the human condition without religion and politics being at the center. I am also not sure that humans are any more violent or corrupt now than we ever were. There are certainly more of us, and a global awareness of how messed up we are though. It is easy to come to the conclusion that we are without hope. I don't believe that, but to go any further would violate forum rues...
  20. The other thing causes line breakage is a bad knot, especially with fluorocarbon. Knots by their nature will always break at less than the line itself. Carefully retieing regularly, and checking your line often is the answer. Good luck.
  21. Wow

My prayers are with you also. Each day is a gift. Treasure each one.
  22. That's a fine hand gun! As cbass12 said, it is outside of my budget. How does it shoot?

I agree Slone. Too many think just showing up is enough. It is the attitude that the world owes them that really offends me. I think you are right that the world has changed-and not for the better.

Being a good boss, worker, husband, father, or human being is not easy work. There are times when brutal honesty is needed. There are times when tact and sensitivity are required. Using a hammer when another tool is needed is not effective and sometimes is just destructive...
