  1. Can a thread be too political if Glenn and J Franco are involved? This can't end well. :-?
  2. Steezy my high end tackle loving friend you make me laugh. A $ 400+ reel may be worth every dime to you. That's cool. However their is nothing your Steez can do that my BPS PQ can not, with the exception of handling a bit lighter weights. I use spinning tackle for those weights. I'm not saying they aren't lighter, smoother, prettier, less filling, and taste great, but based on my experience and budget they are not worth the extra to me. I am happy with what I have. BTW you can use any combo I have without a security deposit. My gear was purchased to catch fish. How much I have or how much I spent is not relevant to catching fish in my opinion. I understand you're a tackle enthusiast and enjoy top of the line tackle. Good for you.
  3. Here is a link to the above bag: http://www.basspro.com/XPS-Stalker-Front-Loader-Tackle-Bag/product/10208746/-1725287 I don't have this bag, but I do have a couple of the XPS Extreme bags that have held up to rough treatment very well.
  4. Nibbles the tubes on the side of the boat may keep it from overturning as you went head first over the side. It would not make any real difference in the stability of the boat. That is determined by weight, width, and center of gravity. Some people can get away with standing in a small boat; most of us do not have the cat-like balance to do so. Adding a couple of inches in height to the seat would give you a little more room to work without compromising stability too much. That would be the place to start in my opinion. Good luck.
  5. For the first time in years a jig or Trickworm would not make the top three. 1. Wacky rigged 6" Stick-o in watermellon craw 2. Zoom Ole Monster worm in something green 3. Craw colored chatterbait-1/2 oz A jig and Paca craw or chunk, and a shakeyhead/Trickworm would round out the top 5, with honorable mention to the Rage Anaconda.
  6. There are many times when flipping/pitching would not be the preferred technique. Even when working in close a short underhand or side armed cast will often work just fine. I learned to fish a jig from a small boat that did not allow me to stand, and I caught many fish on jigs from it.
  7. Now you're talking. A stollen is my my favorite Christmas food. I had a couple of pieces this morning. I had a piece of fruit cake back in the early 70s. I've had no desire for another. Is the "fruit" in one of those things really fruit. It tastes like it was made by Dow Chemical. I would think less is more.

Nice pistols. I really like the CZ. It seems like a lot a gun for the money. Enjoy. 8-)
  9. Ain't that the truth.
  10. I voted yes. I think in highly pressured, gin clear water it makes a difference-down on the list of other things to worry about in these conditions. Small line diameter (for more life-like presentations) and long accurate casts are more important IMO. In stained water I don't think line visibility makes as much difference to the fish as it does to me.
  11. Redline in a former life I worked for several years at a research lab, where all sorts of prototype laboratory equipment was made and repaired in our shop. I did a lot of TIG welding at the time, but the guy who was the primary welder could work magic. If it could be welded, he could do it. I would bet that there are specialty shops in your area that can do the job for you. Done properly you will have to look closely to see where it was repaired. Good luck.
  12. My prayers are with him also. He is an opinionated, pot stirring son-of-a gun and I miss his input.
  13. I can't say about the 100MPH brand, but good rain gear is money well spent. I have been using the Cabelas Guide Wear for at least 12 years and it has never let me down.
  14. A powerful piece of music performed very well. My wife and I sang with community choral groups for years. Many times I have experienced that feeling you describe, knowing that what is happening is greater than the sum of its parts. Great music performed well is transcendental; it takes us beyond the ordinary or common to a higher place. Well done G.
  15. Hellmann's or Krafts=good. Miracle Whip=disgusting.
  16. A M-F spinning would be a good choice, but I think if I could only have one, it would a 7' M-XF baitcast. Line 10-15# CXX depending on conditions.
  17. Same here...6# for spinning, and 10#-15# for BC.
  18. Dozer I think it's a southern thing. :-/
  19. Dozer a wiper is a white bass/striped bass hybrid. Bassboy you're not the only youngster on here, but by volume you're a very high percentage. :-*
  20. If I had called one of my uncles by name that would have been the result-at least when they were younger. As has already been said, it is just a matter of respect-at least in my family.
  21. I think this is a very good point. I have fished with guys who would not throw a jig into the thick of things because they did not want to loose a "good" jig, and then brag about using the same jig for several trips. If it is too good/expensive to throw into nasty cover, find something cheaper. If your not loosing a few baits, your probably not fishing them right.
  22. Sign me up. I am "only" 54 but by physical condition and temperament I should qualify.
  23. I like the higher speed reels (>/= 29 IPT) for anything that I move with the rod rather than the reel, heavy cover, and burning a lipless crank, buzzbait, spinnerbait, or chatterbait. For everything else a 6:3ish (26-28 IPT) is my preference.
  24. As long as it is a good strong dark blend I'm in. I like the high end blends, but I drink Folgers Supreme dark roast most of the time. I know that most of you coffee snobs now have categorized me as unenlightened Philistine. I'm OK with that.
  25. I don't have a Shimano rod in my quiver, but I can tell you with absolute confidence the difference from $60 to $150 is big.
