  1. Your basically building a boat at that point. 3 gallons of resin won't get you very far your going to want 60/40 resin to mat ratio in a perfect world. 1.5 oz of plain mat takes 5-7 layers depending on who is doing the lay up and rolling to achieve 1/4" of thickness in a hand lay up. little over a quart of resin to achieve 1sq foot and should weigh near a lb. that's just mat and resin in perfect lay up. Add your wood and everything else and many square feet. Not saying it cant be done but I would look into it a bit more. If you do decide to do it I would like to see progress pics.
  2. In making a fiberglass kayak? I've been a fiberglass fabricator for 5 years now climbed my way to the top of two companies in manufacturing doing it. Might want to add a few zeros to that price of materials if your gonna build a kayak from scratch. There's a reason why the Kevlar/glass/carbon fiber canoes cost as much as they do the stuff is not cheap.
  3. The model number is the cranking one just under live bait. I've got the blank and grip narrowed down at least for the build. I love the alps textouch that's on the rod I recieved from Gary in the warrior project build. That rod he built for me is by far my favorite.
  4. Think I found the one I'm gonna order the judge JDGCB70MH-CG seems everywhere has it listed as a live bait blank though.
  5. Thanks! I don't do any serious deep cranking in fact a barely crank at all but I need to start.

  7. Thats what kept me from getting it this last season. I'm in an ATAK 140 and do a lot of river fishing but the river I fish I have no need for a FF all it's good for is watertemp when 90% of the trip is 3' or less of water. Fushing more ore and more KBF events on bigger waters I want to upgrade than side imaging I've been looking at the lowrance 7ti.
  8. I'm wanting to upgrade again this year to a new unit with side scan. I just got the dragonfly 4 pro and as much as I like it I want a bigger screen and side scan on my kayak.
  9. Last year I saw a bat in the water struggling to get back in the air and it was getting hit like crazy by smaller bass it was just a matter of time before a bigger one came up and actually ate it. I'll probably add a few to my arsenal since I know a pike or musky will probably rob me of a couple.
  10. Agreed, I've got two gen 2s a S and SX , 2 gen 3s both STX and a gen 1 S. The 1 and 2s are still running strong even the SX that was seized solid over the winter rusted bearings was able to get freed and still casts and performs flawlessly it's just a little noisy. My two higher model gen 3s have been giving me fits not engaging after depressing the thumb bar. Easy fix from my understanding but still not as solid as my earlier models. I'm excited to try some of the gen 4s
  11. Welcome what part of WNY I'm also from WNY brockport area
  12. Reviving this old thread. I picked up up two packs last week one of each blade style. Paired it with a trick worm and absolutely love it. Crushed them on it had one of my best days of the year on normally finicky hard to catch fish. Took a little getting used to detecting the bite but these things are awesome
  13. I have a similar situation here and started using a vmc gliding jig with a truck worm trailer or robo worm. Both willow and Oklahoma blades have been working for me.
  14. Going threw my plastics today getting ready for a tournament tomorrow I found several packs of the sick fish. If I remember correctly it was very similar to the trash fish at a third the price. Might throw some tomorrow to refresh my memory
  15. Been throwing the pit boss on a shakey head as of late and absolutely crushing them.
  16. Love xcalibur Xr50 in red craw pattern
  17. Hey that's the Holley falls!!! I live 5 minutes from there take the kids there because it's always got fish not big fish but fish nonetheless. I walk the canal and fish from time to time it's good for rock bass and smallies but there all like 10"ers at least where I'm at I do know closer to Erie is good for quality
  18. I like the geek blanks because of all the color options
  19. I've taken a break from rod building this last year or so but have been itching to get back to it and have some time now to do so. I really need a cranking rod I have one I use now but it's not designed for cranks and I feel is seriously lacking when it comes to the bigger deeper cranks. Ive built on rod geeks and MHX in the past but am looking at a few others for a good cranking build. First is the revelation REVCB70MH-SB and REVCB76MH-SB second is the batson E-glass cranking blank either the GCB70MH or the GCB710MH third rd is the rod geeks S glass line SG79MHM any one with experience in any of them mentioned or any others.
  20. I wish my one lake was on it. I have a paper version of the contour map of the lake that you can buy in Walmart that covers NY lakes. However navionics doesn't have it in heir system. I've got some way points saved when I've passed over structure I want to come back to though.
  21. Anyone have the navionics phone app and do the update to sync to your fish finder. It advertises that you can download the updates to your unit via phone. I've got the dragonfly 4 pro with the navionics pack but haven't updated it since I got it in march because I don't have a laptop so this would be nice to figure out. That and I use both some times like when I pre fished a lake in my buddy's boat I ran the tracker so when I do my tournament in they kayak I have all the waypoints.
  22. Hit honeoye today to pre fish for a kayak tournament there next weekend. Struggled just to get 5 in the boat. Place is completely different from when I went in may and you could throw anything almost anywhere and catch a fish.
  23. New York is the third Saturday in June till November
  24. You guys need more internet in your life. Haven't ya seen the meme about this. It goes something like this(can't post it it's not rated G) interviewer: what's your greatest weakness? interviewee: honesty interviewer: I don't think honesty is a weakness interviewee: I don't give a beep what you think... so be be honest I guess like everyone else said
  25. I've heard some great things about round lake holding some giants. I also kayak fish been planing on making it out there some point this year. Heard it gets really weedy though.
