pier angling
Most of the Great Lakes pier fishing will we Stealhead and there will be crowds. The stealhead will take some specie tech. This is were I learned how to crowd fish and how to control my temper. About half the bass tourneys I've won were in a crowd situation and I keep track of competiors that can't stan the pressure you never no when I need that info. The mid june period will bring smallies around these piers and up every creek for a week or 2. Then most piers and shoals thru the summer will have some smallies and lots of carp. Garnet

Hate spinnerbaits?
I love spinnerbaits in clear water and wicked bright sunshine. The trick is to cast close to the water and smallies will track your spinnerbait and nail before you crank once. I think the smallies can't get a good look at the bait so they kill it. I've had people with me that can hardly catch a fish that cast overhand and a lot further. Garnet

Determination or versatility?
If I beat the banks for 1/2 hr and catch nothing I turn around and cast out and keep working out until bass are located. And the whole time I'm working thru different baits and presentations. Garnet

Running & Gunning vs. Taking your sweet time
For the most part the faster the boat goes the faster people fish. The real art is to move fast and fish slow. It takes a lot of practice. Garnet

FISHING GLASSES.....
I wear Prescrip. so when I changed from Grey to Brown was a $500 oboy. Brown is the way to go better in most light conditions and it seems to make fish stand out more in water. Most store have that pic. to look at so you no they are polrized. Garnet

Mustang Inflatables
Seen in Bassmasters that Mustang has inflatable Hydrostatic life vest. Seems like they work automatic on water pressure and will not infate from spray or dampness. I checked the website and it looks good. Has anybody used one. Garnet

Tournament fishing--a negative view
Funny most of the ego driven bad behavior are from the young bucks. It's nice to see new guys but it ussally takes a couple years to understand. The other area is people that were highly successfully in other areas then drop gobs of money on fishing success these ones usally burn a bunch of gas for a year or 2 and can't get any success and move on. river fishing
Were the current bumps up indicates a current break. But the breaks are upstream then you need to cast futher up to let your bait fall and drift into the zone. With tubes get a selection of heads and keep adjusting until you can drift it right to the spot. Even sidecutters to trim your heads. Also if you slide to head back from the nose will make the tube swim more. Garnet

sharpening hooks
Sharping hooks is lost art and really not nessary. The yellow files from BPS are the best. Garnet

When is too much for a fish to survive.
Catch and release is the best thing thats happened to sport fishing. That been said it's gone to far were people think anglers are less for catching and consuming there catch. There just needs to balance with C&R and C&C. Garnet

LMBass take SMBass baits?
Here in southern Ont. the distrubuation largies vs. smallies are about even and there are few pure smallies spots and few pure largies spots so most of my time is spend looking for baits that catch both smallies and largies.Theres are lakes that i've had great success with just 1 or 2 baits and never sure witch I'm fishing for. Lets take tube on a long sloping pt. I might know the location of some gravel boulder areas so I'm drag a tube on the bottom with a odd agressive hop then move to the eastsde of the pt. were theres some weed clumps with the same tube but a lighter head and throw right up to the clumps and keep that bait right there doing everthing that I can to trigger a largie or keep the same head and ripe jig then work ledge with a combination of largie and smallie presentaions but the same tube. My other option would be to work the whole deal for largies then go back over with the smallies stuff thats just to much time for a tourney guy. If I worked the same sloping pt. with a spinnerbait I would have 1 tuned for smallis and 1 tuned for largies but most likely the same skirt and blade combination. Now theres lake I fish that all the experimenting has not worked............YET Garnet

Pitching distance
The pitch in a cup is trick casting.........what is more important is were ever you are looking you pitch to with ease thats under over hook left hook right fade it in loop it just look and pitch. And yes be very carefull when talking to the sweety on the dock I've been close to errror. Garnet

Fishing, drug testing and the Olympics
I allways like the rule in most tourneys that you are only allowed legal drugs. So buddy smokes weed everyday and enters a tourney and stops smoking weed. And the legal ones that are available wow. I would think a relaxer type would be best maybe thats why I take a couple asprins most tourney days and 50 years of acks and pains. No Olympics for this dude. Garnet

Buck Perry and Bass Fishing
Whats truly great about serious fishing for me is all the money in the world will not buy results not bass boats not $500 fishing rods $1000 reels or the best bait in the world. At the time I was a pretty good rec. angler Buck Perry gave me the foundation to explore. Garnet

Buck Perry and Bass Fishing
Both the Linders and Bill Dance and Roland Martin studied with Buck Perry Al told that to me personaly and that Buck Perry was still relevent at that time 20 years ago. So I did get that it was possible to fish your way to Key areas and they were not nessarally facing shore. unless you fish Florida and that I need to get back to these areas. That new info. using transmitters has change to picture doesn't take away from a great body of information. Could you image if we threw out everthing In fisherman reported because 20 years ago they said just leave the hook in that fish it will rust out. Garnet

northern fall bass?
Largies take a little time to adjust to the colder water but when they do they get shallow and they get active. You will read about the lakes turning over for the most part that starts the adjustment then after largies get acustom to these fronts going thru everyday or 2 the effect becomes less. And the bite starts. the best part stay in bed until mid morning get on the lake about 10:30 - 11 and quit early 3. Garnet

Buck Perry and Bass Fishing
Yes I study Buck 25 years ago and understood that trolling was his methods but mine would be different. Most anglers can't get there mine pasted trolling and miss the message. I read the Spoonplug Book and the study course over and over and when Buck passed i bought the leather edtion. Garnet

what am i doin wrong?
The very first thing is to start taking notes on your fishing. DVD's,Mags.,Books,T.v. are great learning tools but thats somebody else. By taking notes you will improve your fishing. I suggest you get a regular 3 ring binder start by writing what you think you might fish your next trip and what will catch the fish do this in Blue next when you get back take a red pen and write beside your results oberservation any thing. Do this very trip for a month our 2 and you will start to see patterns of what works and what didn't. Join a bass club or 2 or 3 but keep taking notes remember it's about your fishing. Garnet

Smallmouth Afficianados: HELP PLEASE!
I have no experience with large swimbaits but lots with large smallies. There will be no slashing strikes or missing. Big smallies will grab a bait and pin it on the bottom, they grab it and never let go to the pt. you can't get a hook in them. That writers bull about finnicky twinky bait garbage. Maybe about 5% of the time the rest smallies are killers just learn how to press there buttons. Be a bully with your baits my favorite top water bait looks like a musky bait it's loud obnoxios and I fish it that way. Garnet

Smallmouth Afficianados: HELP PLEASE!
Thats a mistake bigg smallies are killers the most important thing is to get a bait infront of them. There attiude will do the rest. Being a good jig fisherman is a most, jerk baits hard and soft,Spinnerbaits are important. To catch the big smallies you need to push them around be a bully stick it in there face. Garnet
