Need the scoop on smallmouth
St. Clair and breakline not in the same sentence you drive out 5 miles it's 8 ft drive another 3 miles it's 9.5 ft, 3 more miles 11 ft. and you catch 2 lbers everywere. Get your self some smoke/purple Chomper tubes and hang on 1/8 or 3/16. The river is wild need a little heavyer jigs if you get out in Erie the Smallies will still be shallow less than 20 ft. Garnet

Gimme some tube tips!
You need to separate swimming presentations from drop presentaions. The internal wieghts will make the tube swim. I only fish t-rigs tubes between 1/8 and 1 oz it's what you need to accomplish. If you fish the tube on a standard tube jig and want a little more swimming action just move the eye back a little bit. If you are fishing deep go with a ball head or sight fishing use a ball head and the tube will go straight down on the nest. And skipping wieghtless tubes to docks. Some of the heavy salt tubes will float just put a small hole near the head. Theres lots more tubes and senkos are just about the same as long as you hit water they will work. Garnet

Factors effecting casting distance
Size of reel will add distance. 4000 size will cast further than 2000 size. Garnet

How do I fish this lake?
If you are in a boat and can see the fish they see you so get back way back. If you are shore fishing get back way back. Or keep a tree behind you or lean agains a tree. This is hunting leave your bright cloths at home don't make noise don't make shaddows. Just ease up decide a tree and wait 5 minutes before casting. Basically be a trout fisherman. Garnet

keeping fish alive in live well?
For regular limits I leave the timer on all day. I read In Fisherman years ago that Smallies need twice as much O2 as Largies so if the limit gets big I will pump water steady into my live well and also run the pump out at the same time. And run the recir at the same time. The whole report basically said you cannot get to much O2 in your livewell The CO2 between the top of the water and your live well lid will limit the O2 gathered from your bubbles so proping your livewell lid open will help I use my maker bouy. Also when I move spots I hold the livewell lid open for a little bit. Then I frezze my water bottles. I also have Mr. Bubbles for a backup if a pump goes bad or the limit is huge. Another thing I do if making small moves is leave the pump out going when moving so at the next stop I get lots of fresh water. I've never had much trouble with Lagies in my area but big smallies can be just quitters so as the limit gets big my efforts go up. Garnet

Bass survival w/ lure in mouth
I've never believed that rusting hooks. I allways have offset side cutters in boat in the case of tubes pull the tube off and cut hook as close as possible. Turtles get most of the fish that die the first night so we never see them. Garnet

I need help with Smallmouth!!!!!!!
If your lake is very rocky finding sand is more important. And then finding rock and weed on that flat. Look at your shoreline Pines are rock, Birch trees are sand. If you can find sand and scattered rock near your main lake dropoff with a little scattered weed things will start happening. Also fish the areas exposed to your normal wind direction mines is the westside of any point or a bay facing west smallys love being in the middle of the bay on top of the main lake dropoff around scttered rock and weed. Don't forget current. Garnet

Lindners
The boys also live in a part of your country that have most fish available to them. Like my part of southern Ont. I seen Al 25 years ago at a tackle shop and have had 7 hobbys ever since. Jan. ice fishing, Feb. Mar. Steelheading, April May perch/Crappie, May June walleye, July, Aug. Sept. Bass,Oct. Nov. Walleye, perch, Nov. Dec Steelhead perch. And then i throw in a little musky pike, fishing. Pike tourneys are get popular in early spring so I'm going to check that out. The boys also surround them selfs with great anglers. Garnet
