  6. It's a fact........if throw your hands in the air and run you will never hone your skills. Everbody gets to pay and play......... some play until they pay regular............ some just run. Garnet
  7. I have fit all these catagorys at some point. Right now I would say generalist that has master a lot. Still have weekness or haven't found a lake were certain technics work c-rig would be my biggest weakness. Garnet
  8. I don't think there is a myth. Tournament fishing is the highest level of angling. Lots of days I could go catch small fish but chosse to try and win other times I sort little ones because I can't chosse my times or lakes I must perform. The easy thing in the world is to get a live crawfish on a pt. and hook fish. I'm a huge supporter of angler being able to buy livebait and fish. With our new rules on livebait it's getting hard. Garnet
  9. Some good suggestions. Buy the best map available and leave it open somewhere. Ever time you look at it your eyes will go to the most interesting area and thats were to start. Garnet
  10. It's a skill to fish slow when the boats going fast and the only way to practice is doing. Garnet
  11. Backreeling the second dumest bassmaster thing.............so whats the dumest sticking your rod in the water to land fish..............makes tv but just a great way to lose fish. Garnet
  12. The best way is to stop every cast with your index finger. This accomplishes 2 things stops the loop and keeps you in position for the controled fall. Garnet
  13. Days like today I could reach into my great Granfathers grave just to ask WHAT WERE YOU THINKING half way around the world and he stopped for free land and winter. Then the idiot sold for 2 cows and a goat (theres major deveplment There) 400 acres. I can't even convert so -16c with a wind chill of -29 you guys and your 2 degrees. Thats it I'm over it. Garnet
  14. You just need a smaller swival. Lookup Redwing Tackle they are steelhead specailest they have super small 30lb swivals. I use these for my dropshoting. Garnet
  15. It's a must to watch your line or be aware of it and to react without hesitation. To really get it all you need a softer tip rod than most bass fishermen use. And you need to watch your rod bend and your line and the area out infront of you, the same way a race car driver views a track. So you are not focused on any one thing you just see the whole picture. It's very easy with practice. Garnet
  16. Not to bad I oversize my hook a little to make a keel and don't really buzz it. Garnet
  17. Thats my dock fishing setup on a couple lakes. The docks on both of these lakes are pounded. The one is really off colored I take a white grub and die it Chartruse and sometimes with split shot and sometimes without. The other has both largies and smallies on the docks I use a clear smoke in pretty clear water and the split shot. I don't really care what anybody else is using I no that this setup works on these lakes. At the wieghtins I talk about spinnerbaits and rats. Garnet
  18. The one trick is to turn your reel a dozen times then drop some slack if it pigtails turn your spool over. Another thing that works is set your spool on it's edge and start your reel the spool will allways fall the right way. Garnet
  19. Tippy is relative I've been in a 20 ft bassboat for 20 years so 14 ft tippys are tippy but back in the day I was liven large fished everywere for everything. Even puts some Downriggers on it and trolled for Salmon on Lake Ontario (not real Smart). By the time I started tourney fishing in my late twentys I was a pretty good rec. fisherman. Burner to ground with a TIN TIPPY. Garnet
  20. Theres a product called JB Weld get the industrail one not the hobby stuff. If your crack has not went into the oil area I would drill a small hole were the crack ends and use this JB Weld it's good stuff. If it has went into the oil area it will still work unless it's in the bearing areas. Garnet
  21. My first boat was found floating on a lake. I turned over to the police(don't ever do this) report it as found and get a document. 14 ft. Tin Tippy with a homemade interior and a 20 horse and a 28 lb Minn Kota man was I living big. They are tippy I put a butt seat in, it help never did carpet but that would help. BPS and West Marine ect. have all the nice stuff when I did mine I'd never heard of BPS. Garnet
  22. Cybasser Have you seen the English style match fishing. They have wieght bags that they keep there catch alive and wieght every 1/2 hour. Buddy comes along with a huge dail gauge on a tripod and records your wieght then I believe they are put in another bag until the tourney is over. Could you have a pin tournement were each angler buys there limit of safety pins then have holding areas along your 2-3 miles. In Canada we have a T.V. station World Fishing Network they have a website that you can watch these English match fishing it's called Fishmania it's pretty cool. I like the Pro Tarpon from Boca Grand Florida they bang boats and land tarpon then tie them to there boat and drag them to shore for wieght in. Thats were I would stay, to manny beach bunny's for fishing.............maybe. Garnet
  23. Some of my lakes are great for fishing smallies on the flats. For the most part they will be on the deeper side and relate to gravel rock/boulder areas. With a lot of work you can get key areas that will produce over and over. To find these areas you need to fish the pervaling wind side of everything. Thats not todays wind but if you were to have a major wind storm. These winds will keep the silt clear. Garnet
  24. On your moving baits line size is not a factor. 8 lb is getting a little light for baitcaster. I like 14 lb for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. Garnet
