  1. Most people get this from tv. If a fish runs towards you the boat gets in the way from reacting quick. By lfinding that inbetween slack line and pulling the fish towards you in the jump is your answer. Once you get those wraist lossen up jumping will not be that big of deal. Most people put a lot of presure on a fish just before the jump this give the fish advantage when in the air. Steelhead are like smallies on rouds fast and always in the air great for learning how to fight fish. Snook seem to be the same way looking opprotunitty to try snook fishing. Garnet
  2. Thats my system with a chatillion spring scale. I will be selling my cullm rite and my xtools they have no repeatability. Garnet
  3. Tighten those drags and crank those bad girls in............and please enter every tourney I fish. Really lossen those wraist up and learn how to fight fish I can't remember the last time I broke my line and just about never loss a hooked fish. Garnet
  4. Spent Sunday morning watching KVD DVD's never once seen him do that drop your rod stick it the water bassmasters crap. Switched over to watch Bass Champs couple guys losing 1 fish after another everytime they drop the rods the fish came off. Thats it I'm going out to throw spinnerbaits in fluffy snow.........this winter getting old. Garnet
  5. Most Atlantis Salmon rivers are fly fishing only. I was part of the group that got our MNR into re-establishing the Atlantic salmon in Lake Ontario. The truth about them is any flashy bait will just clean a river out. These fish are as stupid as stumps around cleo's or inline spinners. They are so stupid for flashy, tinsel flys are baned in most areas. They are a blast to catch. Garnet
  6. The guy that bought my xtools clips at my yard sale put the fish chain clips on them. If you guys use this chatillion spring scale (it's made for fishing) you will never think digital again. Garnet
  7. If they could solve the problems of boron rods you would never hear about graphite rods again. In the 80's Loomis and Browning had boron rods wicked light and just awsome power and unblievable load and unload casting. I had a 7 ft. loomis boron for throwing spoons for steelhead that would out cast 10 and 12 ft graphite. Also a couple 6-6 browning boron rip jigging rods that you would slam walleye so hard they looked confuzed. The problem was just one little scracth or nick and they would grenade. Great memorys Garnet
  8. I won $5000.00 with a perch colored banjo minnie on a 1/8 jig in a walleye tournament. Yes I order a bunch from the company and don't think of them as a gimmick. What made them a gimmick is you couldn't buy just a bag of plastic. Garnet
  9. It's pretty obvoius in Ontario that Wal Mart will be getting out of fishing. Everytime I go in it looks more and more like Kmart. Garnet
  10. That keeping your rod low is the absolute worste thing BassMasters TV did. The problem is when a fish runs towards the boat you are in the worst postion. You need to lossen up your wraist. Hold the rod in front of you if the fish makes a run away from you lower the rod slightly. This reduse the drag. If the fish jumps theres a piont between putting pressure on a fish and giving it slack this takes fenness and practice. If the fish runs towards you pull back on the rod to maintain pressure and reel down to get that rod back into position. Almost allways when you hear about buddy thats constantly losses fish he just sets the hook and cranks to landing or he drops the rod down and lets the fish get slack. Steelheading is the best teacher of how to fight fish if possible I would give it a try. Garnet
  11. That turn the motor on and manully turn the prop is to check for dead spots on your armature. If your brushes are good you can still have a dead spot. If you start turning the prop and the motor starts running thats a dead spot. Don't do with your fingers. Garnet
  12. Your best ground will be your trailer hitch. So don't get reel bend out of shape until you tow a little bit make a couple turns get that ball shined up a bit. Then check your lights. Garnet
  13. 100 mph pizza that would be your walkin specail. Don't try the loaded up one you will look like it. I start drinking water a couple days in advance if I'm not fishing and eat when moving from spot to spot. It's specaily important for multi day tournaments for me. Garnet
  14. Thats the great thing about fishing, money will not buy success. Doesn't matter how much you spend it takes time. If tournament fishing success is what you want hire the best stick you can and pay all his cost for your tournaments. This is the only short cut I've seen. Garnet
  15. Ok I admitt I've bought ever digital scale available. Berkly = Junk goes blank with dampness Stren= just doesn't work most time CullmRite= expensive good software to cull Xtools= mid/high price culling software clips are junk. All these have one big weakness they all have a pressure switch and if you rehook a fish at a different angle or hold at a diferent angle you get a different reading. I've went back to high quality spring scale. Chatillon Scale they are super acurate and completly repeatable. You can hook the fish any way an get the same results add a white board and makers from BPS. These scales are mid price $60 - 70 and if you rewiegh a fish you will get the same results. Garnet
  16. Try a custom pour. BassMagnet.com I think you need to buy 200. Garnet
  17. Some have a setting called high bypass. If not check ever speed setting. Also take a stick or something and turn the prop 1 full turn. Don't do with your fingers you might loss them. If it will operate at 1 setting and not others it's the board (expenive). If you make a turn with the prop and it starts working you have a dead spot in your motor most times can be repaired but can be new motor. Garnet
  18. Eating a dieing fish is the best option. In this case not a option this is a catch and release lake period and having dead floating fish is bad press. It's not more noble if consumed by humans. Turtles and Coons need to make a living. Garnet
  19. Did you hear Ike slam B.A.S.S. on day 2 for making everbody fish out of Tritons. It was on the cputer video feed and proably not on T.V.. And thats how Ikes little melt down should have been handled. GMan same deal. Garnet
  20. Check if the motor will work on high bypass. Just a light probe and start checking for current. Garnet
  21. Get a spray bottle and soapy water (dish soap) get lots of pressure in your line and start working your way threw your fuel system. Remember to check all connects under the cowl. Garnet
  22. The best thing I ever read was "if you control the wind you will win" from a book on salt water shore fishing. Even in small waters a logging chain minus hooks will slow a boat down dragged on bottom. Mine is 12 ft for a 20ft bassboat. If you are working channel edges start big motor and leave in gear and steer with trolling motor. And if you are drifting put in reverse. Don't forget to just anchor bassboat people get addicted to there trolling motors. Drift Socks nobody fishes the great lakes without drift socks. they work everywhere. Did you see Preston Clarks pole last year. The trim on your big motor just trim it down and catch on the bottom in the right spot. Theres lots more it's just a case of being willing to adjust. Garnet
  23. Sounds like the battery terminals are corroded thats very bad. Garnet
  24. A buddy picked up some Manns loudmouth II in Warren Ohio GanderMountain from the bargain bin. They were $1.29 ea. If they are at your local store for this price I will pay $2.50 ea for Manns Loudmouth II in Desert Sunset the packages are marked assort colors so it's Ornage top Yellow bottom and brown bars with some spackle on it. PM me if you have seen them. Garnet
  25. I'm a firm supporter of livebait fishing. It keeps the skill level down so rookies can get started. And it's tough watching not so skilled anglers slamming bass with livebait but with practice you can catch just as many without livebait. Garnet
