  1. thanks for the help guys im going for catfish, but will be going for bullhead once i come back from this weekend, durand lake is swarming with bullhead
  2. Since bass fishing is closed for a few more weeks was just wondering what you guys are fishing for?
  3. Same thing happened to be i have a lot of 3/8 jigs and cant get a bite on them to save my life, but fish the same waters with a 1/4 or 3/16(strike king bitsy jig) and i can always get a fish, go to dick and pick up some i just did 2 days ago(picked up about 15 jigs)
  4. try standing back on the shore so you cant really see them and they cant see you,(maybe just me but i dont like to cast a shadow on the water, i feel it freaks them out more) when sight fishing i just a jig and cast it about 10-15 feet away from them and slowly creep it in toward them till its about 2-3 feet away and just creep it along the bottom, usally gets a nice strike. is there any wood or logs in the water near them?
  5. i agree with dulouz a spinner bait skirt works a lot better than the hula popper skirt and it pans out a lot better in the water
  6. do you have everything adjusted for the weight of the lure?
  7. While it is uncommon for pythons and boas to lift there head up they sometimes do to see over objects such as somewhat tall grass, if the picture is real it is a large olive python,or a retic, or a very large female burm, anaconda is possible but they are much thicker than that my vote is fake tho
  8. Im going down to my camp this weekend and i know there is some catfish in the lake but i dont know what bait i should try, i know everyone likes the really stinky 5 gallon bucket baits but i live in an apartment so thats out of the question, what other baits should i try and how to set them up thanks for the help tom
  9. yeah tomorrow is going to be nice i hope gunna try long pond and the others near it, just went to durand a little while ago it was so foggy but such a nice sight
  10. thanks jig man yeah i realized the project is going to have to be put on hold since i just got my summer class bill , i might try the pre-made heads to get a feel for it and see how that goes thanks for the help guys
  11. ok thank you for clearing that up im thinking of starting to make my own jigs for the upcoming winter project(need to save up some money for the project lol) How does the copper work? Does it oxidize?
  12. im always looking on the forum, and amazed how much detail and creativity you guys have when making your lures,(put them in a package and put them in a store and i would be buying them) i always see "hand tied" jigs, what does hand tied mean, does it mean someone put the band on them self and not a machine or something else? thanks for the help tom

  15. it is decent tomorrow i think 72? Lucky me i have 2 things to do tomorrow get fitted for a tux for my gf cuz wedding and go fishing it better stay nice
  16. yeah as backwater said go to causeway and ask them they will help you with everything, tell you bait(or lures) where to go, and where the fish are biting
  17. No tourney's for me the net isn't even for fishing lol its more for frogs an such since sometimes when the fish are not biting i go looking for frogs and snakes(thats why the snake hook) yesterday i went was able to get 2 bull frogs and a few water snakes and a painted turtle and a common snapping turtle, so i could take some nice pictures of them. Bird dog: A snake hook is like a golf club with a hook on the end for you to safely catch snakes( i dont use it on harmless snakes but every now and then if i go to a new lake near my camp i will see a copper head) And the camera bag is my DSLR with all my lens and such
  18. Thanks i forgot live bait also. As for fishing i caught some wet clothes and and a possible cold lol, went to hundred, deep, and round, round pond had a lot of activity bass were jumping everywhere just no bites.(tried jig, spinners, frog, cranks, poppers, plastics) As for round pond no fish, but i caught 3 norther water snakes, 2 bull frogs, a painted turtle, and about a 25lb common snapping turtle, and saw 2 family's of geese with babies, and i took about 250+ pictures lol, so all and all not a bad day. im gunna try again soon a this rain stops. with all this rain i might build a big arc and grab 2 of each animal and be on my way.
  19. I was just wondering how much stuff you guys bring with you when you are going fishing because i feel like a am carrying way to much stuff. since i don't have a boat i have to carry all this stuff . Stuff i bring: Tackle box(15#) Camera Bag(6#) Net(1#) Rods(2-6#) Snake hook(1#)
  20. I live on long island and im almost positive that there so bass fishing from may 1st till the 1st sat in june(it sucks) as for salt water i believe that you need a license even tho i bet 95% of people that go to jones beach dont have one.

I learned when i cant use a spinner bait because of weeds and branches and such i use a jig. Since most of the lakes/ponds i fish are really weedy(i fish from shore) im using jigs more often, try jigs the weed guards help a lot, or try weedless rigs on plastics. I personally feel that if i run the risk of loosing a $3-$5 lure with the chances of getting a nice size bass its worth it. Talk to some of the locals that fish the same waters you fish and see what there using, i just asked about a set of ponds i want to try and a BR member(marty) helped a lot. Ask the locals they help a lot
  23. thanks marty, what do you thinking i should throw tomorrow, lures/jigs or should i get some live bait? thanks tom
  24. Looking to try mendon park tomorrow was wondering if anyone has any luck there. Im a non boater so im limited shore . Should i try 100 acre first or devils bathtub? thanks for the help tom
  25. Tried some spinners, a popper and the black and blue jig and the jig won, one dink and one nice female at least 4 1/2 lbs, not a bad day
