  1. I think so much depends on the river. One of the rivers I fish is wide and shallow. If the water drops even a foot, it can render entire areas too shallow to hold fish. On this river low water concentrates fish and makes them easier to find.
  2. Welcome. I grew up not to far from there and still have family in the area.
  3. Welcome!
  4. Welcome. I'm a transplant too having moved to the Morgantown area 22 years ago. Spend most of my fishing time in my canoe or wading, generally chasing smallmouth. I envy your proximity to the New, Greenbrier, etc.

    Welcome!
  6. Welcome aboard!
  7. For me it would probably be an Arbogast Mud Bug, a gold and black Garcia Finlandia minnow, a red and white Lucky 13, a Johnson Silver Minnow and one of the Mepps spinners I inherited from my grandfather. I still fish mudbugs pretty regularly. Inline spinners too, although I am now partial to Panther Martins, which are usually one of my top three producers when creek fishing.
  8. Tried a few spots like that late this Fall with mixed success. I'll definitely give them a go this Spring in hopes of doing better. Still figuring out the bigger water.
  9. I fear this may be a stupid question, but here goes. When I try to message another member, I get a response that reads "You are only allowed to send 0 messages a day." What do I need to do in order to send messages? I'd be grateful for any help.
  10. Thanks! There is just something magical about running water and smallmouth. Haven't fished much in your part of the state but hope to make my way over there someday.
  11. Not as strong as I used to be that's for dang sure. And I had a couple of spectacular fails the first couple of times I tried to load it. Spectacular.
  12. Yes, indeed! That's very helpful information. I should give it another try this Spring. I know it is a top spot, maybe the top spot, in the state for musky as well.
  13. Yes indeed. I'm pretty close, but haven't fished it for quite a while. As a canoe and bank/wade fisherman I tend to focus on smaller water.
  14. Small world! I grew up in the Bay Area and have family all up and down the Central Valley. Lots of good memories fishing for trout in the Sierras, rock cod at the Farallons, and bass everywhere in between. Caught my first fish at Don Pedro.
  15. Florida looks pretty good right now. Barely a month into winter and I've already had my fill of snow.
  16. 1966 Grumman Sport Boat powered by a 5 hp or a trolling motor. I'm using it less and less, as car topping it isn't getting any easier. Probably time to swallow my pride and get a trailer.
  17. I've lived in Marion County, West Virginia for the last 20 or so years. I'll fish for anything, but river smallies are my favorite. I'm mostly a wade fisherman, but also canoe and have a 1966 Grumman Sport Boat that I car top. I've been a member forever and figured it was time to introduce myself.

  19. I can't claim to be knowledgeable about catching big bass, but here are three things that have helped me catch better quality (for me) fish: 1) Get to know better fishermen than you. Talk to them and, if possible, fish with them. 2) Pick a few bodies of water known to have big bass and try to develop an exhaustive knowledge of them. The closer to home the better. 3) Fish as much as possible. You can't catch fish, big or otherwise, if you're not fishing.
