  1. jeb2... other than weight, tell me what advantage the Premier has over the STX. oe
  2. 0119... being seven years your senior I appreciate the honesty about line watching difficulty. oe
  3. I'm not sure where you're getting this "dollar for dollar" stuff... the various 17 Fenwick rods in my quiver won't be traded for St. Croix rods anytime soon... at any price. oe
  4. In Iowa canoes and kayaks <13' with no motors or sails need no registration. oe
  5. Thanks Canga, I wondered if stepping down in diameter would bring along any handling problems I don't now have with the 10lb. oe
  6. When fishing smallmouth over cover that leaves the top foot of water clean I prefer fishing a walking bait. Lucky Craft Gunfish is my favorite followed by a Zara Puppy. If the surface is fairly broken I move on to a Berkley Frenzy popper. Clean alleys between emergent vegetation fish pretty well with a Baby Torpedo. oe
  7. I've been fishing 10lb hi-vis Sufix 832 on spinning gear for a year and am quite impressed with the line. I'm considering trying a spinning outfit with 6lb hi-vis 832 and am interested to hear comments about how the 6lb compares to the 10lb. Besides the obvious... it's thinner, does it cast significantly further, does it behave on the spool as well, any wind knot experiences, is it too thin to line-watch effectively, hold up well to 4lb+ smallmouth? oe
  8. They are terrible guides if your want to use a leader with the braid. oe
  9. What is the most common reason you lose a spinnerbait while fishing it? oe
  10. Gall... what rod did you get for your lake fishing and why do you think you need a different rod/reel to fish the same species in streams? oe
  11. They're a monofilament line that falls somewhere between a nylon line and fluorocarbon line, but I wouldn't try to make a comparison to a PE braided line. oe
  12. I'm married with three kids... enough about my impulses! oe
  13. Two decades ago (yes decades) when I first began using Fireline and would converse (argue) about it's attributes when compared to the "then king of lines" nylon monofilament, I was accosted with "it's much too limp, doesn't telegraph bites and fishes like kite string". I find it refreshing that now I'm defending a PE line that "fishes more closely to a nylon monofilament line" than any of the other popular PE lines. Eventually the line manufacturers may stumble across the perfect line... till then NanoFil is a pretty good compromise. Yes, we agree. oe
  14. Not to be confrontational, but I think NanoFil behaves more like a monofilament than any braided PE line I've fished. I consider this trait to be a definite "pro". oe
  15. I prefer as much familiarity as possible with my equipment. The working length of my rods are all +/-3" of each other (6.5" Fenwick HMG and Techna AVs). My baitcasting reels are all Morrum c1601 mags filled with 10lb & 20lb hi-vis Sufix 832. My spinning reels are all Cardinal 802s filled with 10lb NanoFil. I guess I would consider this matching my combos. oe
  16. I'm plagiarizing a pretty good angler in his time... Something dark, something light and something between! oe
  17. Those are the words I was hoping to read. oe
  18. When you said "local around here" I assumed you meant here on the discussion board. oe
  19. I've been around a number of years and don't know what you're speaking of? oe
  20. Maybe Crestliner or others will add a little more info about the Producto line of baits. I've never used them but the 3" spring grub and 4" spring worm look interesting. I fish the Kalin's grubs on light jigheads and appreciate the easy action of their tails... how do the Producto grubs compare? oe
  21. I do... thus the reason for my thread. oe
  22. The biggest challenge I have in watching line is seeing it against the glare of wave action, which is nearly a constant condition here in the Midwest. Flame green Fireline is just "so-so"... the repeating pattern of Tracer braid is better (but I don't like the limpness of the line). oe
  23. I apologize for the vagueness. I'm looking for the most visible line that I can watch and don't have a concern about visibility to the fish. I use fluorocarbon leaders. oe
  24. What are opinions concerning the visibility of orange lines? oe
